Great White Shark Deadly 60 Bites

On Deadly 60 I've had loads of incredible animal encounters.

Here's just one of my many favourites.

HE SCREAMS

This is Deadly 60 Bites.

I'm in South Africa to search for one of nature's ultimate hunters -

the great white shark.

Great white sharks actually pose very little threat to people.

Almost all attacks are cases of mistaken identity.

Their main source of food in this part of the world is seals.

When it's hungry, it patrols deep under the ocean surface

waiting for an unsuspecting seal.

Then, bang! The shark launches itself like a missile at its victim.

The force of the attack fatally wounds the seal

before the shark returns to finish it off.

Using fearsome teeth and jaws, this two-tonne killing machine

thrashes and tears its prey into pieces

before devouring it, bite by bite.

Right, time to focus.

We're heading out to meet one of the most awesome killers on the planet!

Normally, you'd never consider looking for a great white shark

in weather like this. But we're desperate.

We managed to get out beyond the breakers, out to sea.

It was a bit like riding a very soggy rollercoaster.

We're all a bit damp now, to say the least.

The conditions are about as bad as they possibly could be.

Looking down into the water, it's really murky and horrid.

If we were to actually dive in that,

we wouldn't see the sharks until they were right on top of us

so that's out of the question.

What we will do, though, is put some "shum" in the water.

It's fish blood and fish oil.

Hopefully that will attract some sharks up.

I think now, to see a glimpse of a shark from the surface

is the best we could expect.

Of course, these waves will be no problem for our highly-trained team

who all have their sea legs.

MAN VOMITS OVERBOARD

Our cameraman's not feeling very well!

All right, guys. It's those biscuits!

Shark! Great white shark!

Oh, look at this! It's an active one as well.

Come right up to the surface.

Oh, wow!

Good action. Good action.

Whoa!

She is big!

Coming right underneath the boat right now! Look!

She's coming round the other side!

How big do you think, Mark?

A good size. At least three-and-a-half.

She looks to me to be as long as a mini-bus!

She's come back round! She's here again!

Oh, look at that!

The shark has just completely ripped the bait off the line.

We're trying to put some new stuff on, hoping she's not gone for good

and she'll be back to play.

But it's an awful job, particularly for the cameraman.

We're being tossed around like we're on a bucking bronco

so trying to film the shark is next to impossible.

She's come back round. She's here.

Oh, look at that!

Oh, wow!

Oh, my life! Look at the size of her!

This is unbelievable.

Here it comes. She's going to hit the bait any second.

Oh, my goodness!

This one is a proper, proper shark.

Unbelievable.

This is a much smaller shark, a different one.

It's absolutely death-rolling over the bait.

I think I got a shot on the camera. She came right up close.

Look at this!

This is absolute chaos!

We're being tossed all over the place by the waves

and we've had two Great Whites right up close to us.

Look, they've shredded the rope and the buoy.

Look!

Torn to shreds by those teeth.

They've ripped the rope to bits.

That's all that's left of the giant fish we had on there as bait.

Here it is again.

Oh! It just swam right alongside me.

This time she's coming up to the bait.

Magnificent! What an extraordinary creature!

Oh, my goodness!

She just touched the camera in my hand!

This is amazing!

Despite all the evidence

about how little danger sharks actually pose to humans,

this is still the most feared animal in the world.

But that's not why she's going on my Deadly 60.

She's going on my list because she's magnificent.

Super senses, cutting teeth,

and raw power.

The Great White could probably eat everything else on the Deadly 60!

Surely no-one will argue with them going on our list!
