Giant Pacific Octopus Deadly 60 Bites

On Deadly 60 I've had loads of incredible animal encounters.

Here's just one of my many favourites.

This is Deadly 60...Bites!

'It's early in British Columbia

'and in the depths of these waters lays a formidable force -

'powerful, intelligent, flexible and fearsome,

'and for the moment, hidden away.

'But it isn't long before we spot something on the sea floor.'

Oh, wow! Look at this!

There's scattered shells... big chunks of dead crab...

This is definitely the work...

of the super-predator that we've come here to find.

'The huge creature we're looking for

'is a specialist at dismembering its armoured prey.

'And it's leaving us a trail of clues to follow.'

I think Simon might have one.

'And the clues lead us right to its den.

'May I present the giant Pacific octopus.'

Now THAT is a big octopus.

He's absolutely monstrous.

I don't want my hand too close to his mouth because...

he could actually do me quite a lot of damage.

'The octopuses' hard beak can easily rip through a crab's tough shell

'which means my hand wouldn't stand a chance.'

This is... one of the most intelligent...

invertebrates on the planet.

And I think one of the most extraordinary creatures

that we'll ever see.

The giant Pacific octopus is definitely going on the Deadly 60.
