until he came to, erm... Er... Where is he?

Um...a great, big, enormous mountain covered in snow.

But I'm a big, brave dinosaur pirate and nothing scares me!

So the dinosaur pirate huffed and puffed

to the top of the mountain.

On the top of the mountain,

there was a fierce, howly, growly mountain lion.

DAN LAUGHS

Grrr! Hee-hee!

Uh-oh, a lion! I better climb down this mountain fast.

Here I go. Whee!

Careful, Loopy. The lion is behind you!

Where? I'm a big, brave dinosaur pirate. Nothing scares me.

Grr! Grr!

-Ha-ha!

-Ah! Let's get out of here!

Precious, our story is almost finished,

found a sparkling golden carriage.

No. The big, brave dinosaur pirate invited all his friends

for a ride on the golden carriage

and they all lived happily ever after.

CHILDREN: 'All aboard the Story Train!

-'It's time for a story.

-It might be about a dinosaur.

-'Or a treasure hunt.

-Or a roaring lion. Roar!'

-Are we ready for another story?

-Ho-ho!

Ready already, Driver Dan.

I was thinking maybe... A-ha!

I know just the book. Is everyone settled down and ready to listen?

-Oh, yes!

-Yes, please.

All of you? Sitting down comfy and ready to listen?

-'Yes, Driver Dan.'

-This story is called The Long Journey.

It was written by Esther Ahanti and the pictures are by Christine Pym.

It had been a long, hot summer and the waterhole was dry.

"What shall we do?" cried the animals.

"On the other side of the desert is a deep pool.

"We must go and fetch water from it," said Jackal.

"But the journey is long. It's a job only for the strong."

"I'll go!" said Camel, but the animals laughed.

"Your gangly legs aren't strong enough!"

Ho-ho! A camel, like me!

Hippo stepped forward.

"My legs are strong.

"I'm the river horse. I'll get the water.

"You can trust me, of course."

But Hippo's feet stumbled and slid and he returned without a drop.

"Let me go." said Camel, but again the animals laughed.

"Your long lashes will make it hard to see the way!"

Lion stepped forward.

"I will go. You know I'm the best.

"I'm the king of the jungle. I'll win this test."

But the sand blew into Lion's eyes

and he returned without a drop.

"I'll go!" said Camel.

Again, the animals laughed.

"The bump on your back will make you sluggish and slow!"

Cheetah stepped forward. "I'm fleet of foot. I will go.

"I'll be there and back before you know."

Cheetahs are very fast.

But the sun was too hot for Cheetah and he returned without a drop.

While the animals wondered what to do,

Camel quietly set off across the dunes.

Her gangly legs were just right

to pick a careful path across the desert.

Her long lashes were perfect for flicking the sand

right out of her eyes. And her bumpy back was best of all.

She was able to carry back enough water

to quench the thirst

of all her tired friends.

"Thank you, Camel!" cried the animals.

"Only you were strong enough to do this for us."

What a brave camel!

Yes, just like the brave dinosaur in your story.

And no-one ever forgot the story of Camel.

With her gangly legs, her long lashes and her bumpy back,

she was just amazing.

-The end. Did you all enjoy the story?

-Oh, yes!

I liked the bit when she carried the water back. Hee-hee!

ALL: Splash, splash, splash!

Well done! Great story-telling.
