We've picked all the strawberries already.

Ah-ha, I know just the book.

-Is everybody ready to listen?

-This story is called The Big Swap.

It was written by Benjamin James, pictures by Chilla Kasagi.

It was a bright, sunny morning and Toot the taxi

and Beep the bus were at the garage having a wash and polish.

"You're so lucky being able to tootle all over town.

"I'm driving the same stuffy streets," complained Beep.

"It's not much fun being bossed around. Turn here, go there...

"You're lucky to always know where you're going," said Toot.

So the two friends decided to swap jobs just for one day.

-Just like Sweetie and me.

-Mmm.

At first, Toot enjoyed being a bus.

"Ooh, how fancy," said her passengers, admiringly,

as they squished onto the comfy seats.

Toot was excited and off she sped, much too fast.

Ho-ho! I love going fast too.

"Slow down," complained Mrs Petal.

"Hey, that was my stop," called Dr Pill.

"Sorry," said Toot, squealing to a stop at the next bus stop.

The queue was long, and soon, she was full.

"Back soon," she called. "I know a shortcut."

But her passengers were not impressed to be kept waiting.

Meanwhile, Beep was giggling with delight

as he swerved around the city, seeing the sights.

He was thrilled to be taking Miss Bank to an important meeting.

"Speed up," said Miss Bank. "I don't want to be late."

He couldn't go any faster and wasn't sure which route was best.

"Make up your mind," said the policeman, crossly.

"You're causing a jam."

Beep juddered down a bumpy side road and was soon completely lost.

He screeched to a standstill at a low bridge.

He was too big to drive under.

Just then, Toot and Beep spotted each other.

Quickly, they swapped back.

Miss Bank climbed into Toot.

"What a terrific taxi!" she exclaimed.

The bus passengers climbed aboard Beep and rang his bell.

"What a brilliant bus!" they cheered.

Back at the garage, Toot and Beep were tired from their busy day.

"Fancy another swap tomorrow?" chuckled Beep.

"It was fun," laughed Toot,

"but I like being free to take shortcuts and see new sights."

"Hmm," smiled Beep.

"I think happy passengers are the only sights I need to see."

"Toot-toot!" "Beep-beep!"
