Welcome to the world of Epic. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
Sit back, strap yourself in and get ready | 0:00:07 | 0:00:11
to become epic at everything! | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
Welcome to your Quick Blast of epicness. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:19
So what are we waiting for? Let's do this! | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
First up, we need to get our skateboard wheels in motion | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
with your first taste of epicosity. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
Hi, I'm Georgie Winter, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
and today I'm going to teach you how to pop an ollie on a skateboard. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
Right, Georgie, let's do this! | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
First of all, you need to get yourself into a comfortable | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
ollie position, which is your back foot on the tail of the board and | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
your front foot flat across the board an inch or so behind the front foot. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51
OK, Georgie, we know where to plant our feet, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
but what do we do with them? | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
Crunch down, making sure your weight is distributed | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
evenly between both feet. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
After you've got that, jump off your back foot, jump hard and fast | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
so the tail hits the floor and bounces up into the air. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
This is called 'the pop'. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
OK, we're popping to perfection, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
but we need to get really airborne to be cool. How's it done? | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
Immediately after you've jumped, you need to slide your front foot | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
up the grip tape towards the nose of the board. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
This allows the board to level out and bring height to your jump. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
Get that front foot slide right, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
and that's when you'll really start hitting some off the ground height. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
But there's one last thing to know if want to get higher. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
Then you bring both your knees up to your chest - | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
this allows the board to rise and level out - and then land it. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:35
OK, major rewind required. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
First up, pop the board by stepping down hard on the tail. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
Next, slide your front foot to the end of the board to allow it | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
to level out in the air. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
Finally, bring your knees up to your chest to let the board gain height. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
It's a tricky one, but before you know it, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
you'll be ollie-ing like a pro. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
And that is how you pop an ollie. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Right, onto the next. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
If you play your cards right, you'll be able to shuffle like a pro. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
Hi, I'm Ben, I'm a magician, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
and I'm going to show you how to shuffle a deck of cards. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
Ben Hanlin is a card-carrying legend. Watch and learn. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
Firstly, you have to separate the deck into two halves, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
and we call this 'riffling'. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
Now hold the cards with your thumb on the top and two or three fingers | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
on the bottom, and with your index fingers, push the back to the cards. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
Now, with your thumbs, release the pressure slowly, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
so that you release one card at a time. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
When you get good, you can do it quicker. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
Simple. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
Now place your four fingers on the bottom of the deck | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
and grip them tightly and place your thumbs on the top. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Now bring the knuckles of your fingers together. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
Now slowly open your fingers, and as you do, the cards will cascade. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:58
Is that as fast as it gets? | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
And when you've put all that together, it should look like this. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
OK, that's pretty fast. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
And that's how you shuffle a deck of cards like a pro. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
Thanks, Ben. That was magical. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
Well, not literally, but you know what I mean. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
So, from card shuffling to tricking someone's mind, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
want to know the secret? Obviously. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
Hi, I'm Chris Cox, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
and I'm going to show you how to trick your mate's brain. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
Sounds exciting. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:28
Chris has sold out gigs at the Edinburgh Festival, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
has comedy eyebrows and cool card skills. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:34
To do this trick you need a mate, and mine is Bobby Lockwood, | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
who plays Rhydian in CBBC's Wolfblood. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
-Say hello. -Hello. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:40
Bobby Lockwood just said "hi" to me! | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
I'm going to show you a pendulum trick. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
This trick works because of the ideomotor response, which is | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
a psychological phenomenon which makes us do stuff without knowing it. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:51
Easy for you to say! | 0:03:51 | 0:03:52
You need to make a pendulum for your friend to hold. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
Something heave on the end of a piece of string will do, like a ring. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
So get your friend to hold the pendulum between their index | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
finger and their thumb. That would be you. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
Keep your arm nice and straight, | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
and you're going to not move your arm at all, but you're going to imagine | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
a wind coming through this room which blows the pendulum side to side, | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
left to right, and start to imagine that wind and don't move your arm. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
-There it goes, starting to go. Are you moving your arm? -No. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
Imagine the wind getting faster as it spins around | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
and it makes the ring spin and the pendulum spin, | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
and it gets faster and it gets faster. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:24
-That's amazing, isn't it? -Yeah. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:25
-Want me to tell you how it's done? -Go on. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
The secret is a thing called the ideomotor response, | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
which is basically our brain sending signals to various | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
muscles in our body without us knowing it. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:34
In this instance, it's sending a message to the muscles in your | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
hand to gently and slowly move, which allows the pendulum to swing, | 0:04:37 | 0:04:41
but you have no idea that it's happening. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
It's all in your unconscious mind. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:44
Ah! So, the ideomotor response is when the brain tells the body | 0:04:44 | 0:04:48
what to do without you realising it. Epic! | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
And that is how to trick your mate's brain. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:56
So, there you have it, your Quick Blast of epicness. | 0:04:56 | 0:05:00
Now, go forth and be epic at everything! | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03 |
