I've had quite a good year and I think a few of our friends

What were our personal highlights for the year then, for 2012?

Mine was going to Brazil to support Bruno Mars. That was amazing.

I was supposed to do that as well but I kind of forgot my flight

and I ended up, like, not going.

I bet you were gutted.

I had loads of other stuff to do anyway...

Forget you, Bruno.

I think my highlight was going to New York. Has anyone else been?

I've been to New York, it's magical, isn't it.

-I was there the week before you.

-Really enjoyed New York.

Really great city. It's like London times ten.

I had a friend who was there in all of the weather trouble.

So did I!

My dad's school trip, when they were there - got stuck in a hotel.

-Why's there so many school trips to New York?

-I know!

-I wish my school did that.

-Our school didn't go New York.

Our best one was to the theatre in Regent's Park.

My personal highlight was probably making it through to

the Let's Dance for Sport Relief final with our mate Dani.

I had a really good time on that show and obviously got to know Dani.

-She's lovely.

-She's really nice.

Apparently you taught her everything she knows on Strictly.

Yeah!

So my personal highlight was winning this beautiful thing, which is

very heavy and I'm struggling to get it from behind the pillow.

You keep it behind the pillow?

-That's where you've been hiding it from us.

-I'm sorry!

I thought I'd bring it out today

just to remind us of winning this award for Best Entertainment Show.

-That was great.

-Well done, us.

What about you, Aidan? What have you been up to?

Probably my highlight of 2012 is doing

Alesha's Street Dance Stars with Alesha Dixon.

Is she nice?

She was really nice and Cel came along to do the filming

because it was in Manchester, and she was really nice.

Nice person. Ceallach, what have you been up to?

My personal highlight of 2012 is Manchester City winning the Premier League,

Sergio Aguero put the ball in the back of the net in the 94th minute.

Anyway. You came second but it's all right.

No-one actually cares. I genuinely don't care. Can we move on?

Now it's time to find out about some of your personal highlights of 2012

so I'll have a look at the message boards

Jet Loud Tulip, she says - I turned eight with a bang

and this year has been the best so far.

I loved the Jubilee street party and festival,

the Olympics, especially fencing.

I really love Friday Download, especially Georgia,

and Dani Harmer was amazing on Strictly.

It has been a great year.

Another one here from Cyan Dreamy Heather.

She says, my favourite bit was moving into my new house.

You also liked it when Richard, Cel and Tyger and Aidan performed

the song they wrote at the end of series three. I loved it.

Thank you so much. That means a lot to us cos we came up with that ourselves.

Hi. We're The Wanted and we just want to say

a massive happy new year to everyone at Friday Download.

Personally, my new year's resolution is to see friends and family more.

I have taught you this year more moves than Rich has had chicken dinners.

Now that's a lot, we both know that. Cos we eat it on this very table.

But you at home have been amazing and so have you in the studio.

What has been your favourite Dance Download?

Showgirl, I loved, and Candy was really good as well.

She had her list ready.

I'm on it! I love Dance Download.

I don't like dancing but I like to appreciate it.

Mine was when you done Gangnam Style with Diversity.

That was a shock to me. I didn't think I was going to go for it.

I thought it was going to be a technical dance

cos you had Diversity there but it was like, no, we'll get busy.

It was kind of like when I did the Hump with Rizzle Kicks.

Oh, yeah!

Is it just me or is it getting really hot in here?

-The fire is quite toasty.

-It's heated up a bit.

I'll have to go get some logs in a minute.

We've had a lot of guests. Who's been your favourites?

Bobby from Wolfblood was really good.

Him and Dani were really good together.

-And Amanda from Cover Drive.

-She was amazing.

I think it's her Bajan-esque rhythm.

Because she's from Barbados. My family are from St Vincent.

And I'm liking that the One Direction moves Zane taught you.

Oh, yeah, the shoulder! That was really cool.

I've got to admit, it wasn't the most challenging move.

But you've had great guests on.

The Dance Download with Marcus Collins was amazing

and Aidan was as good as always. Keep up the good work guys.

We've had some amazing films out in 2012, including

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, the most anticipated film release,

well it was for me anyway. I don't know about you.

We also saw the Hunger Games break the box office record

by making half a billion in sales.

Ridiculous.

Spiderman got a reboot with the amazing Spiderman with

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in.

The Batman series came to an end, finishing with Tom Hardy's Bane,

and also for you younger ones, Madagascar came out this year

and we also had one of my favourite films of the year, The Muppets.

Absolutely loved it. The songs are wicked in that.

But moving on to what I think is the most highly anticipated movie

event of the year, it's time...

for the Spellman Award Ceremony!

At number five it's the wacky world of Dr Seuss' The Lorax,

featuring voices from none other than Zac Efron and Taylor Swift.

This colourful animation full of bizarre creatures has earned itself

a place in my top five.

It might even make you want to plant a tree.

Yay!

At number four is Snow White And The Huntsman.

Kristen Stewart as Snow White battles the evil queen

with the help of Chris Hemsworth's Scottish huntsman.

This dark take on the classic fairytale transports you

to a magical world - but be prepared to get muddy.

At number three, the Team Jacob, Team Edward debate comes to an end

in Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, which finishes with a twist

that is still dividing audiences across the globe.

At number two, Andrew Garfield dons the spider suit in the reboot,

The Amazing Spider-Man.

The amazing special effects and the chemistry between real-life couple

Garfield and Emma Stone makes it my runner-up for top movie of the year.

OK, guys. And the winner of the Spellman Award 2012 goes to...

The Avengers Assemble!

Yes, this was my favourite movie by far of the year.

It was action-packed, full of amazing superheroes.

And unfortunately the cast couldn't be here to receive the award

and they didn't leave me a video message, so I will take this award

on their behalf but thank you and congratulations to The Avengers.

I'd call that a pretty cool clip.

Now it is obviously down to you at home asking the questions,

but Di, you won last series with a massive 28 points.

How did you do it?

I think having Ceallach read the questions,

he was quite fast so that helped a lot,

but you make it short and sweet.

I wish we could hear some of your answers again.

Funny you should say that actually

because I've got some of your answers here.

When asked can you hold your breath for three minutes, you replied yes.

Is this true, Tyger, honestly?

I genuinely did read an article recently about a Swiss guy

who could hold his breath for 22 minutes.

What? That's amazing.

-Oh, yeah! Was it underwater?

-He's a diver.

No, it was under a table!

I'm not even done.

When asked your favourite childhood memory,

can you remember what you said?

-Yeah, because it's true.

-Falling down the stairs. Was that enjoyable?

I've never felt the wind against my face in such a way!

You want to be a stuntman.

Can I just, you know, those are questionable, you are right,

but I'd quite like to mention one of my own ones presented to me

by Ashley from Diversity when I did Star Download with him,

and the question was,

if you could go anywhere on Earth, where would it be?

And he said, to the moon.

I swear he's got a degree in science! I actually think he has!

You should have stopped him and said "woah!".

I didn't even get it!

I'm going to head over to my favourite place, which is the message board.

Teal Wintery Pegasus, lovely name,

says my highlight of the year was when Friday Download

asked my question to Bobby and Aimee from Wolfblood,

with a few exclamation marks.

No worries. We're that type of people here.

We'd like to say a massive thank you for sending all your questions

to the message board cos we wouldn't do Star Download without you

and I'm afraid to say that is the end of Star Download 2012, complete.

It has without a doubt been a completely jam-packed year

so we've got plenty to talk about in our 2012 Hot Or Not.

Indeed, we all loved a bit of Hot Or Not, whether we were sitting

on the Hot side or the Not side, which for these purposes,

being in our house, this is the Hot sofa, you're the Not.

Not sofa!

I'm going to kick things off with the Jubilee,

but more the celebration side of it

so you have your street parties where you get in the mood,

you had the people going out in the rain, on the boats down the Thames.

-I'm going to have to stay for that.

-It was great.

That was definitely smoking hot.

Really? What was your favourite bit?

When they had all the artists performing.

The concert? Yeah.

And it was raining and everyone was there.

But Stevie wonder was really cool.

I thought it was a little bit over the top and sometimes people

go over the top and you couldn't walk down the street properly,

but everyone else enjoyed it.

But it's a once in a lifetime thing for some people.

What about you, Mr Quiet, sitting on the Not Hot?

I was asleep and people were throwing parties outside,

and all I wanted to do to...

How dare the Queen interrupt your sleep? How dare she!

It was raining as well on the day, to be fair.

If it was the Queen, personally waking you up...

Sticking to the Jubilee-themed parties, it's hot.

I think it's definitely hot.

So my one, I'm definitely going to be sat over here,

was the One Direction fever.

-So, you know, you guys saw them.

-I've got it, I'm just tuning in.

You mean, One Direction, like...

We've seen them on the show quite a lot throughout this year.

You guys saw them first.

-Yeah, we met.

-I've got - because otherwise...

Hang on, I thought you didn't like boy bands.

I've already declared my taste preferences.

I just thought everyone's going to sit there, and be like...

I ain't got the fever, but I think they're all right.

the biggest thing in 2012. The Olympics.

That is going to take some beating.

Here he comes. Bradley Wiggins is the Olympic champion.

It's gold and gold for Bradley Wiggins.

Jessica Ennis is the Olympic champion.

The best all-round athlete in the world.

Tell you what, that opening and closing ceremony.

-He smashed it.

Danny Boyle all the way. I'm on Hot.

I'm so hot, I'm lying down.

You know what, when the Olympics first started,

I was like this, because I thought it was going to be a disaster,

and they'd spent so much extra money,

but as soon as the Olympics started, we started winning medals,

-it started going well, I was like, zoom!

-Everyone got really patriotic as well.

-Exactly.

-Our athletes did really well.

-They did.

-We did so well.

-So good.

We came third on the leader board.

Closing ceremony was spot on.

One-D were there.

-Yeah, in my opinion.

Just in my opinion!

I could not believe you just said that!

Incredibly hot.

Now I have actually got, talking of the Olympics,

some messages from, surprise, surprise, the message boards.

"Without a doubt, the London 2012 Olympic Games were amazing.

"I had the privilege of going myself and it was epic.

"The highlight of the games was either Jessica Ennis winning gold

"or Mo Farah winning gold.

"The whole experience was brilliant, and I loved it."

I have to agree with you. The Olympics was amazing.

You know, let's not forget the Paralympics.

-I was just about to say that.

-So was I.

-I got down with the swimming.

Everyone was incredible, to be fair.

So I think we'd all agree that 2012 has been incredibly hot,

and it's been an amazing year,

and that is 2012 Hot or Not Download complete.

My personal highlight of this year, I'm going to cheat and do two.

One was touring with JLS,

and the second was getting a number one in Korea, which was awesome.

I think it's fair to say a lot can happen in a year for music,

but the biggest thing for me has to be Justin Bieber,

What were your favourite stand-out moments for this year?

I really loved the fact that a lot of UK artists broke into America.

The biggest break-out artist for this year, for the UK.

The biggest ones to smash America, One Direction and The Wanted.

This is true. The Brits are doing well, as we all agree.

But here is a year in music.

But we've had a lot of performances on the show.

Favourite performer?

I loved when Lawson was here.

The lead band member had a serious thing that would have killed him,

and the doctor that saved his life was called Lawson.

And that's why if you look at their emblem, it's LAW

and then it's got like a heartbeat for the A.

But as you'll have seen, this series, we've been taking

some of your favourite parts of the show on the road

and bringing it to your doorstep.

Now, as it's New Year's Eve, it's a big party night,

I think you might need a few tricks to play on a few friends and family

so here's how I got on when I went and did a Just For Laughs

on the road.

This week, I'm in Middlesex and I am about to surprise Sophia

and give her her very own Just For Laughs.

Let's do this.

My name is Sophia and I am eight years old. My brother

plays lots of pranks on me. Once, he put a bug in my bed.

I put water in her shoes.

Once, I stuck her shoes to the floor with fabric glue and she fell over.

Can't get me back. I'm too good.

I need to get my own back on him but I don't know how to do it.

So, Sophia has no idea I am going to surprise her now.

your favourite part of the show?

When someone comes to your house and when Aidan is dancing.

When Aidan starts dancing and when someone comes to your house which happened today.

Now, you don't know why I'm here. A little birdie came and told me

that you have a certain brother that likes to play a few tricks on you.

-Is this true?

-Yes.

-What sort of stuff does he do?

-Well, once, he put a fake bug in my bed.

-Oh, no.

-Once, he found a big hairy spider.

-What did he do with it?

-He put it in a jar and put it in my room.

-I don't like spiders, Sophia.

two glasses of water which quite conveniently are placed in here.

I bet you can't balance these two glasses of water on your hands.

What I need you to do is put your hands out like that

and I'm going to balance one on there like that. Doing well.

Second one on. Nicely balanced.

All right, thanks for that. I'm going to go now.

-Wait, come back!

-0h, all right.

So, what you do is you go to your brother, "I bet you can't

"balance them like I can" and you can leave them as long as you want.

-You like the sound of that?

We should go and do that last trick. Take me to your kitchen.

0K, Sophia, for this next trick, he says he has cereal?

Let's use that in a little trap for him.

What we are going to need is and all you need to do is fill it

with water, half full, and then, you put it in the freezer to freeze.

Luckily enough, this is one I did earlier. Have a little tap of that.

So, to cover it up, I'm going to put his cornflakes on top.

Pretend you are your brother and try to eat it. Fancy some cornflakes?

Rock solid. We're prepared? It's now time to get down and do it.

Text your brother. Let's do this.

Ha-ha-ha-ha!

If you want to get your own back on someone with a harmless prank,

there's loads you can try.

To make mustard doughnuts, all you will need is a doughnut,

with or without jam, a pot of mustard and an icing bag.

Poke a hole in your doughnut.

Fill the bag with mustard and squeeze into the middle. Simple.

Eurgh! Mustard! Oh! I think I'm going to be sick!

To play the water balance prank,

ask somebody to place the hand on a table.

Bet them they can't balance a plastic cup of water on each hand.

Then, walk off, leaving them stuck.

I can't get them off.

For the frosted cereal trick, fill a bowl half full of water.

Place it in the freezer overnight.

Take it out the next morning and pour a bit of cereal on the ice

and leave it out.

They'll get a shock when they try to get a spoonful or pour the milk on.

Mum, look what she's done!

Another one you could try is chocolate onions.

Melt some chocolate in the microwave,

then skewer an onion with a wooden skewer.

Dip in the melted chocolate, place in the fridge to cool,

offer to your victim and tell them it's a chocolate apple.

Oh, that's disgusting!

Ask permission from an adult before trying any of these tricks.

but here are my five favourite gadgets from the past 12 months.

This is the Gyrowheel. And, erm, basically,

just try and knock it over.

I'm going to explain how it works. I'll leave it there.

Inside this is a motorised gyroscope, the very basic

technology of a gyroscope is like so.

The spinning in the middle causes it to stay on that thing.

Just pick it up and move it around in the air bit.

Hasn't it got a mind of its own?

This thing. It feels like it is alive.

Basically, what you use this for,

you fit it as one of the wheels on your bike

as an alternative to stabilisers.

So this is the new technology which will keep you upright,

but the thing I'm thinking is

once you've learned to ride a bike...

then what do you do with it?

It's these funky model dinosaurs. I'll take this one out first.

Yeah, basically, this is what they look like.

They come in these flat-pack bits and they just lock together.

Fun to construct. If you turn them on...

Hey there, guys, it's Labrinth here and my personal highlight of 2012

had definitely been the moment

that me and Emeli performed on the X Factor.

It's an amazing show.

So for Weekend Download this year, I've been thrown into the deep end,

you know, learning new skills, new sports.

Some of them were good, some not so good, but overall I had fun.

-Which would you say you were best at, Rich?

-Best at? Ooh.

Erm, I liked the Rizzle Kicks masterclass on tour.

-Slacklining was pretty good.

-What was that again?

Slacklining is like... It's on the beach.

There's a really thin rope and they bounce and do flips on it and stuff.

-I wasn't that good.

-Did you enjoy bowling?

-Bowling was good actually.

So, yeah, I'm just going to get back to brushing.

So you've all seen the Olympics, and the Paralympics, right?

-Did anyone see the new sport, handball?

-Yes.

Yeah, my friend was working there.

I didn't see that one.

Didn't see handball?

It's not actually big in the UK, but it's big all around the world.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's like a completely new sport,

-it's been going a while.

-Oh, yeah.

It's been going a while but not many people know about it.

That's the thing, isn't it?

So, as a Weekend Downloader, I thought, why not try it out?

I'm Tyler West, I'm 16 years old and I play handball for England.

I'm Luke, I'm 16. I started playing handball three years ago now.

Handball can be easily described as football with your hands.

It's not much different from water polo without the water.

It's so easy to get involved in handball,

all you need is a ball and a wall. It's literally that simple.

What's going on, mate? So tell us a little bit about handball,

because you're going to be teaching me today.

It's pretty physical, pretty intense.

-So is there a warm-up exercise before you start?

-There's a warm-up.

I knew you was going to say that. I knew you was going to say a warm-up.

Right, what have we got to do, just jog? All right, let's just jog.

Right, so I'm all warmed up. What's the first thing I need to know?

OK, well, first we're going to focus on dribbling.

So is it sort of like basketball dribbling?

See, that's the difference.

Instead of carrying the ball over, it's jut straight-down dribbling.

-All right.

-Fingertips on top of the ball.

-Right, OK.

-Here we go.

-How about that, yeah?

-Nice one, yeah.

-Sweet.

-Right, so what's next?

-Next up we're going to do passing and catching.

It's simple. You catch the ball with two hands

and you throw the ball with one foot forward and a high elbow, OK?

-Aiming for the face.

-So it's quite powerful then?

Quite a powerful pass. As you know, it's a fast game.

I've seen you playing, man. I find it well hard.

-Right, what's next?

-So lastly, we're going to focus on shooting.

The most popular shot is actually a jump-shot.

Similar to passing, but instead,

you get your body above the ball and aim low.

-Wow, wicked.

-So you want to go in goal now?

That's quite powerful.

Ooh, that bar shakes. So that's bang. One, two...

-Exactly like that.

-Don't even see it coming.

See, I could be in the England team, man!

Oh, yeah!

Right, so what's next?

So we're going to put everything you've learned into practice.

We're going to do some target practice.

-But for now, we need the rest of the team.

So all you have to do, pretty simple, hit the ball across the red line.

-Any one of these, yeah?

All right, wicked. Let's do it.

WHISTLE BLOWS

That's twice I hit that.

Right, so this is the point in the VT

where they usually stick me in the game.

So, go on, say it, you're going to stick me in the game.

I'm not going to lie, we're going to go into a bit of a game.

But I've got the rest of my team-mates here to help us out.

What, part of the England...? Oh.

I tell you what, this is much better than basketball.

Although not a massive sport in this country, handball is growing fast.

Teams are springing up in schools and centres all over the country.

Rules are - you can run with the ball

but you can only take three steps before bouncing.

Oh, and you're not allowed to use your feet either.

Step one: Dribbling.

Bounce the ball on the ground with a loose hand grip.

A bit like basketball, but bouncing a little bit slower.

And keep your back as straight as possible.

Step 2: Passing and catching.

Grip the ball between thumb and little finger, other fingers loose.

When throwing it, bend your arm at the elbow

and then straighten in the direction of the target.

Catch the ball with both hands, nice and tight together.

Pass as often as possible to confuse the other team.

Step 3: Shooting. Run towards the goal with the ball.

When you get to a defender jump in the air

and throw as hard as you can at the goal.

And remember, you can only shoot outside the box.

Forget about basketball,

I think I've just found my new favourite sport.
