Your family holidays knock you out with boredom?

If so, it's time to kick those kung fu parents into touch and

chop things up a little bit.

I'm Joe Swash, this is Gimme A Break,

the show where you take total control of your family holiday.

On Gimme A Break it's the kids who decide where to go and what to do.

Parents don't get a look in,

especially when it comes to the holiday rules.

Breaking the rules can only lead to one thing - trouble.

Today I'm in Leicestershire

and the lucky family about to be given a dream break are

the Trivedis.

Ten year old Cheyan who is a football fanatic,

eight year old sister Jenna who loves dancing and everything pink,

serial sofa snoozer Dad,

and teacher's assistant Mum.

So why do Cheyan and Jenna deserve to be given a break?

On holiday mum always constantly takes us sightseeing.

I think any holiday

is not a holiday without a bit of sightseeing.

It's like a basically an educational school trip

except with our parents.

Mainly she takes us to like old museums and monuments.

It's good fun. It's between having a bit of fun and a bit of education.

I don't want their brains to just switch off like that.

Dad can break the world record of sleeping because

all he does when we go on holiday is sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep.

I will admit I'm not quite as active as perhaps they all are.

Not only is Dad lazy, he's a scaredy cat and he's really scared

of heights and things like that.

Dad's speciality on holiday is making excuses

for not going on anything.

I do sometimes like to sometimes take a back

seat because I think it's important that the kids shine.

Sometimes on our holidays Mum forgets to put her make-up on.

I put my lipliner on, but I forgot to fill it with my lipstick.

It's just really embarrassing.

Mum and Dad better be prepared

because this break is going to be nothing like our old family holidays.

Right, it seems to me that you guys don't see eye to eye

when it comes to the family holiday.

Oh, yeah, well yeah.

Why do you think you deserve to be given a break?

Well, this year we missed out on a proper holiday because...

Because my dad...

..spent all the holiday money on an extension for the house.

-That's not fair is it?

-No.

-We need to do something about it don't we?

-Yeah.

-Mum and Dad,

it's a time that strikes fear into parents' hearts across the country.

Before that, Mum and Dad, I've got the terms and conditions here.

-So if you are thinking about breaking

any of the rules think again.

As you can see, they're pretty comprehensive.

Get in there. Where am I going to go?

Right, you're in charge.

-Yes.

-So we'll need to find out what is that you want from a break.

We want a, like, action packed holiday.

We don't want to do anything to do with relaxing.

So what sort of activities interest you?

I like going to water parks

and doing water sports and things like that.

-You're a bit of a water baby?

-Yes.

All right guys, I think I've got a good idea of what you want

from your break or my name isn't

I've listened to what Chey and Jenna have had to say

and I've put together two belting breaks for them to choose from.

But first they have to work out

what's on offer by cracking a selection of cunning clues.

Let's see how they get on with the rooting tooting clues

for break number one.

"Howdy partners, dress up in them hats and throw the lasso.

"catch the bucking bull to obtain your next clue."

There. There. Let's go and see.

-What are these suits?

-It's got to be something to do with cowboys.

Jenna's lasso action is looking mighty fine.

Er, Chey, you're not meant to catch yourself.

There it is. Get the bull.

I'm glad it wasn't a real bull because I've seen those

old Western movies.

The bulls are really wild and I wouldn't want to catch

a real bull, no way, no way.

Got it!

That's quite a fluke.

Maple syrup? Where?

There's something over there. Shall we check it out?

Yep, it's time to get messy if you want to progressy.

Horseshoe.

It's something to do with horses.

Let's see.

It's got to be something to do with France, then.

No, but other places say "bonjour" as well.

Oh, this is well hard.

A snake and a can. A can snake.

It looks like it could be an anaconda snake and it's a can so it's...

I think it might be Canada.

So the guys think break number one is Canada.

Let's see how they get on with the clues for break number two.

-Lira. What's Lira?

-Lira's the money, aren't they?

You guessed it. Now follow that money to something yellow and funny.

Follow the money. More Lira.

Look, a string attached to a banana with a clue.

I know a country that has mud baths.

-BOTH:

-Turkey.

There's some mud over there. Let's get stuck in.

Oh, that's nasty! These guys are not holding back.

You're meant to be smothering it, not throwing it.

But throwing's more fun!

-What's this?

-A boat.

It's got some sort of bird in it with a red flag.

I think this break is going to Turkey and I think we're going to be

going sailing and having a mud bath and I'd really like that.

Chey and Jenna did well working out the clues but now it's time

for them to get cleaned up and pick their favourite.

Ready guys? It's the moment of truth.

It's time to see what breaks you could go on

I can tell you that break number two

is a wet and wild water adventure holiday to Turkey.

-Are you ready to see it?

-Yes.

-Are you ready?

Dive straight into those adrenalin water sports you've been longing for

with a ride in a banana boat.

Follow that up with parasailing

that will test your dad's dislike of heights. Add in some mud baths

and hot springs and you've got all the ingredients for Turkish delight.

You two have a big decision to make,

so while you're doing that I'm going to go next door,

make the front room look lovely, if my name

The Trivedi family went for cracking Canadian cowboy adventure

in Calgary.

How will Mum and Dad cope at the range?

-I don't like this.

-And who will the final treat?

With the Trivedis' Canadian cowboy break just one day away,

it's time for Chey and Jenna to get cracking with Mum and Dad's packing.

Cheyan and Jenna... Mum and Dad's Packing Wish-List?

This is what I think of it.

I am so nervous. I have been giving them hints all week about where my

clothes are, what to pack, and they've been going "lalalalala".

Mum always makes you fold things, so may as well just dump them in.

My worst-case scenario is that they start packing all my work clothes,

my suits and shirts,

because that's what I don't like wearing on holiday.

Going to take these dodgy trousers.

What is this?

If they did pack anything that was inappropriate,

there may be a little forgetting their pocket money on a Friday.

Now the packing is done, it's time for Chey and Jenna to put

Mum and Dad out of their misery and tell them where they're going.

Get ready.

Cowboy. Wow, goodness me, Canada.

Well, I think you've picked an absolutely brilliant break,

-don't you?

-Fantastic choice.

Mum and Dad seem happy, and now they know where they're

going it's time for the Trivedis to saddle up and ride on out of here.

Well, jump in a cab to the airport and catch a flight.

Calgary.

Are you excited?

-Yeah.

-About what?

Being in charge.

It's a nine-hour flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Calgary

which is situated in the wild, wild west of Canada.

The Trivedi family have finally arrived at their break destination,

a cowboy ranch nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Yee-hah!

Oh, wow, this place is so cool.

Now that the family have checked out their luxury log cabin

it's time to unpack.

-Goodness me. What's in here?

-Goodness me!

It's your suit jacket. That'll come in handy, won't it?

What's this? Where am I going to wear a tie?

Socks. Socks.

These are all your socks. Have you seen any of mine?

You can borrow these of mine. OK, lovely, they'll suit me.

You might be short of clothes.

-There is a pattern here.

-Did you not see this in the suitcase?

We didn't actually notice a thing.

That's where it went, scrunched up at the bottom of the suitcase.

It looks like I've got lots of T-shirts but no warm clothes,

so thank you very much.

-And no shoes.

-And no shoes as well, and I've got no socks either.

Chey and Jenna have forgotten to pack some essential items for

Mum and Dad, but there's nothing a quick cowboy shop can't fix.

And if there's still any doubt about who's in charge,

Mum and Dad are about to find out, snowball style.

Draw!

And fire!

I'm convinced!

Now that Mum and Dad have been put in their place

it's time for Chey and Jenna to lay down the sheriff's law,

the holiday rules.

'Howdy, partners!'

-Hi.

-'You certainly look the part.

'Do you normally dress up in cowboy gear when you're on holidays?'

This is a first for me.

'Now we'll do something else that you won't be used to -

'the Gimme A Break rules.

'Mum, rule number one is for you.

'On this holiday there will be no BORING sightseeing visits

-'and definitely no educational stuff.'

-No!

-No sightseeing!

-No education!

'Rule number two - Dad, you must join in with all the activities.

'No moaning, no excuses.'

-I promise not to moan.

-You're such a lazy cat and we've had enough of it.

'And rule number three is also for Dad.

'The kids are sick of you tuning out on their break

'so there'll be no TV allowed.'

Even if we see you watching a teeny weeny bit of telly you're in trouble.

'Mum, if you break a rule, then Chey and Jenna have decided

'to apply your make-up for the entire day.'

-No way!

-Yeah.

'Dad, if you break a rule, you'll be made to wear a skin-tight unitard

'and exercise in public.'

Here we go.

-There you go.

-I can't wear this.

-Yeah, you can.

I might quite like to look forward

to seeing your dad wearing this, actually.

'Have a wild time in cowboy Canada and I'll be back later on in

'the break to tell you how you can win a fantastic souvenir.

'Who's in charge?

We're in charge!'

Right, Mum and Dad, here's the family rules.

Break them if you dare.

We don't want to hear any more excuses.

Deal with it.

After being hit with so many rules,

Chey and Jenna decided to take Mum and Dad to a cowboy campfire.

I hope they like beans, because they come with everything.

Chey and Jenna are in charge so they get to pick the food for the family.

This is going to be the best feast ever.

For the young cowboy, your steak. For the young lady, your trout.

Don't forget those beans.

Oh, that is the largest steak ever.

Looks like the mains have gone down well,

but what will Chey and Jenna choose for dessert?

-BOTH:

-Cowboy cake and marshmallow mountain. Oh, yeah.

What a choice. Will Chey and Jenna opt for a delicious cowboy cake or

will the pull of melting marshmallows be too much to resist?

And it's the mouthwatering marshmallows that win the day.

-Delicious.

Stuffing your face with marshmallows -

could the first night in cowboy Canada be any better?

It's the second day of the Trivedis' cowboy adventure holiday,

and it's time for the next activity.

Mum may be the teacher back home,

but today she's going to find out what it's like to be a pupil again.

-So here we are.

-Cowboy college.

-Yay!

But not just any cowboy college -

this class is run by none other than lasso-looping, whip-cracking,

horseshoe-hurling,

Calgary Stampede Princess Kateri "The Cowgirl" Cowley.

So are you ready to be cowboys?

Yep, certainly are.

Right, first thing we're going to do - roping.

Chey's up first to be shown the ropes by cowgirl Kateri.

Then swing it right over your head.

-Pretend that's a calf.

-Good effort, Chey.

I wonder how Jenna will fare.

And throw it!

-Not bad, if your intentions were to rope yourself, Jenna.

-Let go.

Yeah, letting go does help.

It's really, really, really hard.

Next up it's Dad.

It's good seeing Dad upright instead of horizontal on a sunbed

with his eyes closed, isn't it?

Unlucky. Can mum be the first to rope the pretend calf?

So close.

Chey's back for one last attempt.

Yes!

Get in! 1-0 to Chey and Jenna.

Next up, whip-cracking.

CRACK!

Wow.

What it's doing to make the sound is it's breaking the sound barrier.

First to go wild with the whip is Jenna.

Snap it like that. Good.

Not bad. Next up it's lasso legend Chey.

It's tricky, hey?

-OK. There you go.

-Good technique from Chey.

-Will Mum be as good?

-This is hard. It looks really easy.

You're doing it too hard. You have to go like this...

Cracking advice there from cowboy Chey. "Cracking"?

Oh, I crack myself up sometimes.

But will the advice pay off?

OK, Mum, you're scaring us a little bit.

Dad's up next to crack the whip.

Good. I'm going to move and you can try on your own.

CRACK!

Nice.

CRACK!

Dad's the best at the whip-cracking and he's levelled the scores at 1-1.

There's only one way to settle this -

The old cowboy way, horseshoe-tossing.

Nice to see such sportsmanship there from Mum and Dad.

That's a miss from Jenna, so it's all down to Chey.

Mum and Dad win that one,

but the most important part of becoming a cowboy is yet to come.

-Are we ready to go riding?

-Yeah. We're ready.

-Yeah.

Dad, aka the Wily Whip-Cracker,

will be paired up with champion stallion Calibu.

Sheriff Jenna will be horsing around on Pinky.

Lasso legend Chey

will be riding Cruikshank,

and Calamity Mum will be getting to grips with Cruise.

After mounting up and a quick lesson from Cowgirl Kateri,

the Trivedi family are ready to ride the Rockies.

It feels quite high.

I'm glad I've got these boots on.

They make me feel like a real cowboy.

He may be wearing the boots, but I don't think Calibu is convinced

-that Dad is the real deal.

-Left a bit. Oops.

Let's see if Chey is faring any better.

My horse? He's really good, actually,

he just keeps moving to every piece of food he wants.

This is the best activity I've ever done in my life.

-Do you know they're the Rocky Mountains?

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

And do you know something?

-SIREN SOUNDS

-They stretch for over 3,000 miles.

Mum, you're ruining the horse-riding fun.

Mum, you are breaking a rule.

But we're having fun!

You may be having fun, Mum, but that's a blatant rule-break.

After two hours of riding through the Rockies, there's

one more thing to master before the Trivedis

are fully qualified cowboys.

One, two, three...

ALL: Yee-hah.

Yee-hah indeed. It's nearly the end of day two and the cowboy

college has been a huge success, apart from mum's blatant rule-break.

She mentioned an educational fact and so she has

to face the consequences,

to have her make-up applied by Chey and Jenna.

-What are you doing, Chey?

-You look lovely.

-You broke a rule.

Chey, do you know how to apply mascara?

-Have the kids enhanced my beauty?

-You look lovely, darling.

It's time for dinner, and Mum's attempt to hide her make-up

by wearing a cowboy hat hasn't really worked.

I promise during this trip I will try so hard not to break

any more rules, especially if I have to put up with this again.

Let's see.

No!

Well done, Mum.

Lesson learned there.

It's day three and the Trivedis are up bright and early

for their next activity, but first

there's an important transport decision to be made.

Will they choose to get back in the saddle on their trusty steeds

-or will a traditional horse-powered carriage win the day?

-Howdy.

The choice is theirs.

We've decided we're going to go onto the carriage.

So the horse and carriage won the day and everyone seems to be happy,

but will Dad still be smiling

when Jenna reveals the next activity?

We're doing a high-ropes course.

-I'm not scared of heights, but someone might be.

-Uh-oh.

Dad doesn't look too happy, but surely the thorough

safety briefing from rope instructor Niki

and seeing the rest of his family scamper 10m up a tree

-will fill him with confidence.

-I am having second thoughts.

I think that dancing in Lycra might be easier

than climbing up this tree here.

That's a no, then. Oh, well, the kids are in charge so, Dad,

you've got to do it or face the consequences.

-I don't like this.

-Daddy, Daddy, Daddy...

I think my heart's beating faster than it ever has.

We heard you!

You said you are going to do this every weekend with us now.

Can I take that back?

Now I'm looking down how high we are

I'm starting to feel proud of myself, which I don't often do.

I'm having the best - whoa - fun of my life.

-Come on, slow coaches!

-Dad's getting a bit over-confident now, isn't he?

Chey, are you watching how the master is doing it?

Dad's confidence is sky-high.

-Nice one.

-I wonder if he'll come

crashing back down to earth when he sees the way down.

OK...

Mum's up first on the 60m zipwire.

Yep, that's six-zero metres, Dad.

SHE SCREAMS

I think they're screams of joy.

-I'm having second thoughts about this.

-This was so cool!

Chey's down next.

I'm more than I've ever been afraid.

That was awesome, wicked, cool!

Go, Dad!

There's only Dad left, and there's only one way down.

That's got to be the scariest thing I've ever done.

-Well done!

-I'm alive!

Now that Dad seems to have overcome his fear of heights, Chey and Jenna

have decided to squeeze in one more adventurous activity

to finish off their break in style,

and to keep it a secret from Mum and Dad, they've blindfolded them.

Wow, look at this!

It's a helicopter!

We are so, so excited to be going up in a helicopter,

because none of us have been in one.

I normally do worry about heights,

but on this occasion, I think I'll be fine.

The excitement of going on a helicopter will be brilliant.

-Wow!

-Look at those mountains.

-This is crazy.

This is an amazing view.

Look how close we are to the mountains on the right.

OK, that is really close.

That is amazing! Wow.

-The same height level as a cloud?

-The same height level as a cloud.

Jenna's got the biggest grin on her face.

Jenna, look, it's a lake, it looks amazing there, look at that.

Everything's so - wow.

This is like something out of a movie.

I think every corner we're turning takes my breath away.

This is the coolest thing I've ever done.

The helicopter flight over the Rockies has come to an end

and so too has the Trivedis' break in cowboy Canada.

But first, Chey and Jenna have the chance to win an holiday souvenir,

some whip-cracking personalised Calgary gear.

But if they don't win the quiz,

their Mum and Dad will win their own outfits. Yee-hah!

'Howdy, partners.

-Howdy, dude.

-'It's souvenir time.

'I'm going to ask you three questions.

'You just need to get two right to win the cowboy gear, but if

'you get it wrong, your Mum and Dad will get it.'

We're not going to let Mum and Dad win.

'did Mum say she would like to do again?'

-I think Mum said...

-The horse riding.

She was saying the whole ride, "I want to do it again."

-So, chose our answer?

-Yes.

Our answer is A - horse riding.

'OK, here's what your mum said.'

It has to be horse riding. I loved it.

-Yes!

-Yes!

'Well, done guys. Get the next question right,

'and the holiday souvenirs are yours.

'Question two - which activity was Dad most proud of?'

-Do you think, I think it was B, because...

-Going down the zipwire.

-He must have said that.

-Yeah.

He would have been more proud of that.

'So what's your final answer?'

B. Going down a zipwire.

'OK, this is what your Dad was most proud of.'

-Zipwire.

-Yes! Yes!

'Congratulations, you've won the treat!'

Yee-hah.

I've had the best fun of my life on this break.

It's been the most enjoyable,

the best ever family break we've ever had.

I think Mum and Dad have enjoyed me and Jenna being in charge so much

-they might let us be in charge forever.

-That would be great.
