Farmers have been growing rice in the paddy fields of China

for thousands of years.

A quarter of all the rice eaten around the world

is grown right here.

A paddy is the husk around the grain of rice,

which is where paddy fields get their name.

Rice seedlings are planted in flooded fields

as they need lots of water to grow.

Chinese farmers cut steps into the hillside to grow their rice on.

Rainwater from the top flows down the steps into each paddy field.

Wow! Paddy fields + farmers = very clever rice growing.

It sure does.

But why do they need the Eiffel Tower?
