Over here, we have a fantastic Advent Calendar

which has been sent in by Katie, one of our Green Balloon Club members.

Look at the fantastic balloon.

It's really sparkly

and it's got 24 little doors - I wonder what's behind them.

And look, we've opened one with Jelly!

So thank you so much, Katie. We really appreciate it.

I know a cool way of making snowflakes.

Each take a pair of scissors and paper.

-Can I make one too?

-Of course.

-Thanks.

OK. First, you just fold it into a rectangle.

Then fold it into a square - that means over again.

Then fold it into a triangle,

so that when you open it, it looks like a diamond.

Then you have to use your scissors

and cut shapes around the side.

-Can you help me?

-Yes, what would you like?

I'd like to do a triangle.

-What kind of shapes do we have to cut, Kat?

-Any kind you like.

-What shape would you like?

-Something like a love heart.

-I've made a circular one.

They don't look very good when you're cutting them out,

but then, when you open them up, they look wonderful.

I'll add something else to it, actually.

Hello! What are you up to?

We've come to see some special animals.

Can you guess what animals they might be?

We'll give you a clue - look at our heads.

MUSIC: Jingle Bells

This is Mike - he's a reindeer handler.

He'll be showing us the reindeer today.

They don't usually live in this country

and we are very lucky to see them.

Reindeer are large deer

adapted to living in places which is cold and snowy.

They have shaggy coats with two layers of fur -

a woolly undercoat and a longer-haired overcoat

to keep them warm when it gets cold.

Their coat is a greyish-brown colour during the winter

and a dark brown in the summer.

Male and female reindeers both have antlers.

Males' antlers are bigger than the females' antlers.

-This is my favourite one.

-Is he?

I'm not food!

And she's not food!

At this time of year,

the male reindeer start to lose their antlers.

The old pair drops out

and the new set begins to grow.

By the summer, the new antlers are fully grown

and covered in soft velvet.

The velvet starts to shed in the autumn.

And when it's Christmas time again,

the antlers drop off and the whole cycle starts again.

These baby reindeer were born in May.

They're about six months old.

Look - even the baby reindeer has antlers.

Reindeer eat barn straw, pellets and grass when they're out in the field.

It's time for all the reindeer to be fed.

Mike has given us some reindeer pellets.

This one is really enjoying its food.

We have been so lucky today to see some reindeers.

I wonder if they've pulled Father Christmas...

We spotted one earlier, so here are some clues to help you spot one.

It's the robin.

A robin is a little brown bird

with a bright red breast.

They are very friendly

and like eating insects and worms.

They are very protective of where they live,

and scare other robins away.

If you see two together, they're getting ready to make a nest.

So here are some clues to help YOU spot one.
