It's Gala Time! Ice Stars

It's the end of the season for our Ice Stars...

..and Gala Day.

Coming up... The figure skaters put heart and soul into their solos

as Kloe tries falling in love with skating all over again.

I'm nervous. I have about five minutes till I go on.

Jellie get ready to make their first public debut

since getting back together.

-I need the toilet. I didn't go to the toilet.

-Looking good.

And it's an emotional night for the Icicles,

as the team skate all together for the very last time.

We've come such a long way together,

and I hope that we'll all stay in touch.

Being an Ice Star means doing some pretty amazing things.

You get to wear some incredible costumes...

I was just saying how pretty the crystals are,

how they're, like, different colours.

..compete all over the world...

I can't wait to spend the week here.

When I first started,

I never thought I'd ever come to Niagara Falls.

..and do it all with your best friends.

-We're going to London!

-Yeah!

It's OK.

For three seasons, we've been with the Ice Stars every step of the way.

We've watched them train hard...

Go for it! Go for it!

I'm really tired. I just have to mentally prepare myself.

..cry hard...

I couldn't do anything.

I was just so tired.

..and laugh hard.

Our Ice Stars are all winners.

I'm the junior national champion.

But life on the ice isn't just about medals and competitions.

Each year, for one night only,

they all come together at the rink to show their friends,

family and each other just how very special they are.

So, don't go anywhere, its Gala Time!

Putting on the gala every year is never easy.

-We've got Singing In The Rain.

-Singing In The Rain.

Hat, in the bag, three coloured umbrellas.

It was so stressful.

Most of us worked in the middle of the night

to get all of the things together.

This is good to go, or never, really.

So, it's a bit stressful at the moment.

But there are some Ice Stars who won't be here tonight.

Over on the other rink,

the speed skaters are training hard for another important event.

Come on, push it!

Tomorrow is the British Championships.

We don't want to take part in the gala

because we don't want to injure ourselves.

Get in, Oscar!

The British Championships is the biggest competition of the year.

And obviously, if I took part in the gala,

I could injure myself or do something stupid,

so I just want to make sure that I'm resting well for tomorrow.

The speed stars will be missed, but the show must go on.

-It's crazy to think we're doing another gala already.

-I know.

-Are you excited?

-Only just recovered from the last one! Really excited.

First to arrive is hockey player Destiny.

This year, I'll be doing the opening number.

I'm feeling really excited now.

It's two years since Destiny first started skating -

and tonight, she's opening the gala.

That's if she can find her dressing room.

I'm pretty sure it's round here.

But it's not getting lost that's worrying Josh and Kloe.

-So scary.

-Especially, it's so close, I know.

Like, we haven't done it with the stage or anything.

-I only finished my solo yesterday.

-Costume changes as well.

We've got some quick costume changes.

If I can find the Panthers gate, I'm not far from that!

I know where I'm going, trust me!

-Hiya!

-Hello.

Ah, we're close.

-So, you're tired?

-Yeah. Yeah.

As the Icicles head downstairs to prepare for their final skate...

S, here we are. We're here.

..Jellie are back to their usual tricks.

She's trying to trip me over.

You're the one that was tripping me over with your pointy old shoes.

Do you mind?

-Can't get there.

-Is everyone here now?

-ALL:

-One, two, three...raar!

Woohoo!

We're just spraying it so it stays up.

Raar!

Do you want me to do it?

-Breathe.

-Ugh!

-I can smell it.

Maybe a bit too much.

Hair and make-up, plus a bowtie's the best.

Right, two minutes of getting ready

and then I want to go and do all of the props,

so you need to have your skates on. So two minutes...

Yes...

Brace.

You've forgotten. Huh!

-OK, guys, are you all ready?

-OTHERS:

-Yeah!

It's time to go, come on, let's go.

Me and all the other boys are ready to go on.

I think the girls are probably panicking.

Lydia, you're in charge of glitter.

It's a bit crazy in here.

There's people shouting and there's people doing make-up.

Just people rushing around everywhere.

This year's gala is called Ice, Camera, Action

and each routine is inspired by a Hollywood movie.

Destiny and her friends are playing the film crew and opening the show.

I'm really excited because we get to open the gala.

It's all smiles out on the ice,

but backstage in the Icicles' dressing room,

there are some mixed emotions.

Four of the skaters are leaving school and moving on,

including Afton.

I started following Icicles when I first joined

and today will be my last skate with them.

So, it's a bit of, like, a journey for three years,

but it's coming to an end.

Going to open a new chapter, aren't we?

Yes, a new chapter in our lives.

It's the last time we're going to skate, so that's quite sad,

but it's going to be really special.

I'm leaving for uni after this, hopefully, if I get the grades.

It's really upsetting because it's been a part of my life

for over eight years now,

and it just feels like a massive hole already,

and I haven't even left yet.

Alex has been one of my best mates.

Since I joined Juniors, Alex was there for me.

So it's going to be horrible to see her go.

Over the three seasons, the Icicles have had their ups and downs

and we've been there every step of the way.

Yes!

We feel on top of the world. We started crying halfway, didn't we?

We are so proud of them.

We managed to beat France, which we have never done before.

And we are overwhelmed.

The main aim for Salzburg is probably to come top ten.

Ready girls?

We beat all the teams we wanted to, so we're so happy.

The Bollywood theme, we knew that it

wouldn't be an easy theme to pull off.

It's definitely the most trickiest routine we've ever had.

-BOTH:

-We're going to Canada!

-CROWD:

-Oh!

It's happened now. Accidents happen.

After their disappointing performance in Canada,

tonight the Icicles are determined

to make their final skate a strong one and show coach Esther

and all their fans what they can do, one last time.

Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, I just want to say

to you all I'm so proud of you

for how you've dealt with everything this season.

We've come such a long way together and I hope that we'll all

stay in touch, for the ones that aren't staying any more.

And the ones that are staying, we'll just keep coming back stronger,

because we've got so much more to bring. I am really proud of you.

And, for one last time...

Right, girls. We're on the ice, let's go.

Come on, girls, let's really do a good run through.

So, we're all lined up ready to perform on the ice and it's the last

time some of us are ever going to skate as the team

and it was really heartbreaking.

It was really emotional and it was really sad.

With everybody leaving, we wanted to give them a final goodbye.

You just went and did it and you just thought,

"We're going to make this the best."

We did it for ourselves.

You know, it was one of the best skates we've ever had.

Look what we can do.

It was good to be to be, like, "Look how much we can actually do."

Because it was a show, everyone really went for it

and it really paid off.

Figure skater Beccy has the first solo of the gala.

The most nerve-racking thing for me is the spotlights,

because they blind you and you can't see,

so you could crash into the barrier at any point.

Beccy's come a long way in a short time.

She's had skates she'll remember for ever.

I can't believe I'm British champion.

I really did not expect that.

And skates she'd rather forget.

Oh!

Why? Beccy, come on.

I think Gurgen was a bit angry with me.

Beccy, there wasn't enough emotions in the programme, understood?

They knew what I'd done wrong and I knew what I'd done wrong.

So, tonight playing a role inspired by the Moulin Rouge movie,

Beccy wants to make it up to the coaches and show everyone

just what she's capable of.

That's definitely a performance Beccy can be proud of.

Next on the ice is Josh.

His routine is extra special

as he gets the chance to revive a character he played many years ago.

I'm about to go and do my solo, which is to James Bond,

so I'm really excited about that.

I did James Bond as an old programme when I was like eight years old,

so it's great to be able to skate it again now that I'm older

and kind of like relive that.

Actually might be able to skate this time

rather than just like waddle along the ice.

Could eight-year-old Josh have ever imagined that by 17,

he would have been...

I'm the Junior National Champion.

I've just loved every second of being here at Junior World.

You've done yourself proud, Josh.

I'm happy, very happy, because he triple tripled.

Josh has often battled with his nerves and tonight's no exception.

It's really powerful music and everyone knows the films

and, you know, loves the films, and everyone knows who James Bond is.

You know, it really pumps you up and you want to skate your best.

The performance went really well.

It was great to be able to skate a routine that I just really enjoyed.

I hope the audience enjoyed it as well.

Josh's night is far from over.

In just minutes, he's got to be back on the ice for a group dance

inspired by the film Austin Powers.

Man, I'm too tired talk!

Nothing really prepares you for when you get off the ice

and you get told you have less than five minutes

to take your skates off, get changed,

put your skates back on and also run back to the other side.

And it's just kind of like, whoa!

Josh, Beccy and Kloe are performing in crazy '60s costumes,

which are tricky to get on in a hurry.

I've literally got like a few minutes until we're on again.

Like, literally no time.

We were all just trying to be as quick as we could

because, you know, they can't wait for us.

If we're late, we're late and we miss it.

With Kloe and Beccy waiting by the side of the ice...

..he's made it just in time.

Backstage, the ice dancers are getting ready to go on next.

Ella and the other solo dancers are joining the couples

for one big group number, playing dancers in an '80s film...

..and tonight Jellie are back, after a dramatic few seasons.

Go.

-Don't cut me off this time, yeah?

-Yeah.

-Go towards where Sophie is.

-You know when you skip?

-Yeah.

-Skip straightaway, but otherwise it was good.

-I was waiting for you.

Josh, stop pushing me!

Ellie decided to stop skating completely.

It's a very, very sad situation for us all.

I'm starting to like kind of skate with Josh again.

-Really?

-Yeah.

-I'm really proud.

Tonight, Jellie want to wow the crowds once more,

but there's still one more thing to overcome.

When I was doing my skating,

I fell over and I sprained my wrist and sprained my thumb.

I can't do lifts at the minute.

A wrist injury is a really bad injury for an ice dancer.

He's been struggling to do the lift with Ellie.

I do know it is hurting him.

-Shall we try it?

-Yeah.

Jellie's lift is the biggest part of the routine,

and if Josh can't do it, they're in real trouble.

Agh, Josh.

-Slight problem.

-Don't crash, if you fall over, get up.

-I need the toilet. I didn't go to the toilet.

-Looking good.

They've done it.

Jellie are well and truly back...

..and Ella and the rest of the ice dancers

pulled off a flawless routine...

..and backstage, it's smiles all round.

-My legs are shaking.

I was like this, I was like...

Your skirt just squashed against the side of my face.

I could half see out this eye.

I love having Josh and Ellie back.

It's much more fun to come training now

knowing that you have someone here that's a really good friend.

While everyone else is in the gala spirit,

Kloe has the last solo of the night, and she's feeling nervous.

I'm really scared that I won't be able to see in the spotlight.

It'll be OK. Just look for the...

-You know the door?

-Which door?

That you've got on at, look for those. You'll be all right.

I find it really hard to skate in the spotlight

so I need to be careful

because, obviously, I just don't want to crash.

But it's not just the lights that are worrying Kloe.

Tonight is important, as it's about falling back in love with skating.

I just have, like, really high expectations for myself this season.

I want to go and skate like I know I can.

We're going to smash it this season.

After her disappointing British Championships...

Almost all my jumps I made a mistake on,

and I basically just wasted everything.

I feel like I'm wasting my time when I skate like this.

..Kloe needs to remember just why she's dedicated her life to the ice.

I can't really do anything now.

I have about five minutes till I go on,

so I just have to go out and enjoy myself.

For Kloe, this solo needs to go perfectly.

Let's go, go, go, go!

Every skater is back on the ice for one last goodbye.

It's great to see everyone come together, cos we are one sport.

It's just amazing to have found that sport

and to have been a part of something so big.

It's just great for us to realise

that no matter what we go through as a team,

and you know, the bad days and the good days,

we're all here for the same reason, because we love the sport.

You know, it's just brings everyone together.

I never thought I'd be a part of something so big.

It's the most amazing thing that's ever happened to me,

and I just don't know what I'd be without it.

UPBEAT DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

The show was very good. Very smooth, very nice.

I'm very happy and I'm very proud.

All the skaters put in so much hard work.

They're so dedicated.

Well done!

When we do something like this and they get the chance to perform

in front of their family and friends, it makes it all worth it.

The gala went really good today, and I'm really glad I did it

because it's such a fun experience doing it every year.

It was amazing, as always, and we enjoyed every second of it.

We're so lucky to be able to do something every day that we love,

and that we want to do.

I'm very happy that I found ice-skating.

It's part of my heart now.

This season has been really hard for me,

but this as an ending has just made it all be worthwhile.

Everyone was saying how much they loved it, and someone was like,

"I could watch you skate all day,"

and it honestly means so much to me, because that's why I skate.

I skate to inspire people.

So, I'm so happy.

It may be the end of a season, but life never stops for our Ice Stars.

After missing the gala,

Freddie and Charlie both won medals at the British Championships.

-I've won gold.

-I've won bronze.

Aren is leading the way for the England ice hockey team.

I've been named England national team under 14s captain.

Ella took a podium spot

at her first-ever solo competition.

And Josh and Kloe are planning that road trip

because Josh passed his test.

But for now...
