I'm trying to make a meal for a very special friend of mine.

I like inventing new recipes.

Do you think chocolate and potatoes would go well together?

No? Neither do I, now I come to think about it! Hang on.

In the festival I've got to show you today, food is very important.

Excuse me, Sprocket.

It's called Eid, and it's celebrated by Muslims.

And I've got a friend called Amira, who's getting ready to celebrate it.

Hi. My name is Amira, and I'm six years old.

This is my house and my family.

Mum, Dad, my big sister Safia, and my little brother Amman.

Today, we are getting ready for Eid.

I'm helping to decorate our house for Eid.

Eid is a really special day for Muslims.

It comes at the end of the time called Ramadan.

This can go around it.

For 30 days, my mum, dad and sister

have tried to eat nothing during the day.

It's called fasting.

I'm too little to do the fast, but I'll do it when I'm older.

I think this tinsel looks better on my little brother.

I love these flags. They say "Happy Eid" on them.

Wow, the house looks SO pretty!

Eid is a very big party with loads of yummy food.

Mummy said I could help make it.

OK, let's wash our hands.

We're making special roast chicken and onion pakoras.

First, Mum chops the potatoes.

We're going to chop these onions now. I hope they don't make us cry.

At Eid, we always see our families. I'm making this for my gran.

I call her Ami.

Now we are adding lots of spices.

I am helping to give it a good mix.

It smells really nice and spicy.

The oil is very hot. I mustn't get too close.

I can't wait for Ami to try one tomorrow!

-Does it taste nice?

-Yummy!

Now we are putting the chicken in the baking tray.

Mummy, do you get hungry when you're fasting?

We do, yeah, but we're going to have a big feast tomorrow.

Mmm, that smells so good!

I can't wait for our Eid party tomorrow.

I am very excited, because now we are going to get our hands painted

with a special paint called mehndi.

Look! There are all my cousins and friends.

The mehndi looks so pretty!

It will stay on our hands for a long time, because it's special paint.

It feels nice, but a bit tickly.

Look at the pretty patterns!

Safia is having her hands painted, too.

I can't wait to show my family my hands tomorrow.

It's time for me to go to bed now, but I can't wait for Eid tomorrow.

I'm sorry! I thought those onion pakoras looked so lovely,

I could make some of my own. And Amira's right, they do make you cry!

Look! It looks like the moon!

When the new moon is seen in the sky,

it means the Eid celebrations can begin the next day.

You may have seen this shape on the top of the buildings

where Muslims go to pray.

We're going to make a picture of the mosque, using seeds and lentils.

as part of the Eid celebrations.

It's Eid today. It's going to be so much fun,

and I get to wear my new clothes.

Before we can put on our new clothes,

it's really important that we all have a wash.

KNOCKS AT DOOR

Come on, Mum!

Now I can put on my new clothes!

And Safia has the same dress as me.

We love our new clothes.

During the time called Ramadan,

I've been collecting money every day.

At Eid, we give all the money we collected to charity.

-All done now.

-Thanks, Mum.

We're nearly ready now, but I mustn't forget my money box!

Here we are at the mosque.

We go to the mosque to say our prayers.

All the girls and ladies go to pray in one room.

All the boys and men go to pray in another.

Because it's Eid today, there are loads and loads of people.

I have given my money box to my brother Amman.

It's time to give my money box in.

IMAM SINGS Now we're saying our prayers.

This man is speaking a language called Arabic.

He is reading from the special book called the Koran.

After prayers, we give everyone a hug.

Eid is such a happy day.

Whenever we see someone at Eid, we say, "Eid Mubarak,"

which means "Happy Eid".

There's so many nice colours.

I'm playing with all my cousins.

Some of them are very little.

After fasting, everyone is really looking forward to the food.

Now it's time for Ami to try my onion pakoras.

She seems to really like them.

Now even more people are coming.

All the grown-ups have started dancing.
