What's up, Lifebabblers?

Today we're talking about going to a new school.

Something that can be exciting and scary.

What were your experiences of going to a new school for the first time?

I had loads of fears when I was starting a new school.

This big, scary place I'd never been before

with all these strangers.

I wouldn't know where to go and that I would get lost.

A very intimidating environment.

I was worried about making new friends.

Am I going to fit in with anyone?

Here are some myths that probably won't happen at your new school.

The school is actually a giant maze.

Teachers are really alien monsters.

The canteen doubles as a spy headquarters.

A dragon lives in the basement and breathes fire to heat the school.

Starting a new school can be tough.

Just be yourself and don't worry about fitting in straight away.

You wouldn't tell everyone that you really, really love ponies

just because you think everyone else does.

Try to make a positive start from the beginning.

It can make your life so much easier.

Have a proper breakfast and try not to daydream in your first class.

'I wonder if my school bag is edible.'

Sorry. What? Oh, yeah.

Be honest.

If someone asks you where you live, don't say Buckingham Palace.

They'll figure out you don't actually live there anyway.

PHONE RINGING

I've started secondary school now and I've gone from being

the biggest in my primary school and now I feel really small.

The school is huge in comparison.

Especially when everyone is trying

to get to their classes in the halls -

the older kids squish the younger ones.

I hope I'll get bigger by the end of the year.

Feeling nervous or anxious about starting a new school

is perfectly normal. There are lots of ways to help you through it.

Make a list of all the positives.

If you're finding it difficult,

why not ask a friend or an adult to help?

You could plan something to treat yourself.

You can look forward to chilling at the park,

eating a massive pizza, or even going bowling!

Try exploring your fears, or what do you think might happen.

It's probably not as bad as you think.

Oh no! I've forgotten which classroom I'm meant to be in.

I'm lost. No-one will ever find me!

It's just me now.

I'll have to survive all on my own.

If I'm going to make it out of here on my own,

I'm going to have to ration my lunch to make it last as long as possible.

-Oh! So, I'm not lost.

Moving to a new school can be a scary time,

even if you're taking some friends with you.

But there are ways to deal with it.

Try and see it as an opportunity for a new start.

And, remember, everybody's feeling nervous, so you are not alone.

One of the most difficult parts

might just be saying hi to a new classmate.

But, after that, it gets much easier.

It's important to remember

you're going to learn so many new skills.

You'll have so many great opportunities.

You'll soon find your feet and it will be awesome.

After the initial shock of introducing myself,

I made quite a few friends

and everyone understood that I was nervous.

My move to secondary school was a new adventure.

It meant I was going to be meeting lots of new people

and making a lot of new friends.

It also made me feel like I was growing up

and becoming a lot more adult and more independent.

It was exciting to be thinking more for myself.
