# Whoa, whoa, whoa. # | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
Hey, guys. Today we'll be singing Sound Of Change. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
We're just kind of working it out, and we really hope that you like it. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
Yeah. It's going to be amazing. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
# Ooh | 0:00:19 | 0:00:26 | |
# Ooh | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29 | |
# We need a storm A howling wind | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46
# A twisted sky A tidal wave | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
# That pulls you to the shore | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
# And buries you in the sand | 0:00:53 | 0:00:57
# And washes you away | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
# So we start over again | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
# They turned the lake into a swamp | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
# They built a bank over a park | 0:01:16 | 0:01:20
# And my dime disappears | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
# And that's OK cos it's not real | 0:01:22 | 0:01:27
# In the afterlife I feel | 0:01:27 | 0:01:31
# My money is dead | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
# If we find that times get hard | 0:01:33 | 0:01:38
# It just makes us who we are | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
# And the scars that run so deep | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
# Are the richest memories | 0:01:46 | 0:01:50
# I don't want to stay the same | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
# I want to look back proud some day | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
# The sound of change all I want to hear | 0:01:58 | 0:02:03
# But it | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
# It won't change if we keep hanging on | 0:02:06 | 0:02:11
# What's that | 0:02:11 | 0:02:12
# That sound | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
# What's that | 0:02:15 | 0:02:16
# That sound | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
# We're lost | 0:02:20 | 0:02:21
# And found | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
-# He's lost -# We're lost | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
-# She's found -# And found | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
# We're lost | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
# And found | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
One more time! | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
# We're lost | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
# And found. # | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
CHEERING | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
In today's lesson, we'll be going over vocal ranges - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:52
how you can find it and... | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
Yeah, let's take a seat and we'll show you. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
To find your vocal range, first off, if you have a piano, | 0:02:56 | 0:03:02
just look for middle C - it should sound something like this... | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
PLAYS MIDDLE C | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
And try to match that with your own voice, so... | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
# La... # | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
And then to find your range, actually, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:16
just start from C and work your way down, singing each of the notes | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
until you find one that you can't sing. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
And that will be... | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
The lowest note you can sing will be the bottom of your range. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
And then do the same thing, starting from middle C, | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
and work your way up. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:31
And whatever note is the highest, that would be the top of your range. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:35
-Yeah. -So that's just how you find a range, yeah. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
Yeah, and don't be discouraged if you can't hit the note right away, | 0:03:37 | 0:03:41
like, find exactly which note it is. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
Cos, you know, some people have trouble with that, | 0:03:44 | 0:03:46
-and that's perfectly fine. -Yeah. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:47
Another thing I'm not sure you guys know is that | 0:03:47 | 0:03:50
you actually have two ranges. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
One of your ranges is your chest voice, | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
which is your stronger, more powerful voice, | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
and then you also have your head voice, or falsetto. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:03
So, what's the difference between those two? | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
So we have the... | 0:04:06 | 0:04:07
-# Ah... # -SINGS IN CHEST VOICE | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
-# Ah... # -SINGS IN HEAD VOICE | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
Yeah, so most of the time you can go a little bit higher | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
in your head voice or falsetto. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
Another really cool thing to note | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
when it comes to chest voice and head voice, or falsetto, | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
is to go through the scales, because there's going to be a certain point | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
in your range when you're working up | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
when you're going to have to transition to head voice. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
-Right - that's a tricky transition. -Yeah, it can be really hard | 0:04:29 | 0:04:31
and awkward, because all of a sudden you've got your chest and it's like, | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
"Whoa! I can't sing that any more in chest." | 0:04:34 | 0:04:36
And for some people that transition will be earlier, some later, | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
so it's really important to know where that happens | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
so you can smooth it out and just be aware of it. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
You know, if your strengths are, "I can belt really, really high," | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
or, "I have a really strong head voice," or something like that, | 0:04:46 | 0:04:49
so it's a really important thing to know. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:50
-All right, guys, see you later. -Bye! | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52 |
