# Whoa, whoa, whoa. #

0:00:020:00:05

Hey, guys. Today we'll be singing Sound Of Change.

0:00:100:00:12

We're just kind of working it out, and we really hope that you like it.

0:00:120:00:16

Yeah. It's going to be amazing.

0:00:160:00:17

# Ooh

0:00:190:00:26

# Ooh

0:00:260:00:29

# We need a storm A howling wind

0:00:420:00:46

# A twisted sky A tidal wave

0:00:460:00:50

# That pulls you to the shore

0:00:500:00:53

# And buries you in the sand

0:00:530:00:57

# And washes you away

0:00:570:01:01

# So we start over again

0:01:020:01:05

# They turned the lake into a swamp

0:01:120:01:16

# They built a bank over a park

0:01:160:01:20

# And my dime disappears

0:01:200:01:22

# And that's OK cos it's not real

0:01:220:01:27

# In the afterlife I feel

0:01:270:01:31

# My money is dead

0:01:310:01:33

# If we find that times get hard

0:01:330:01:38

# It just makes us who we are

0:01:380:01:42

# And the scars that run so deep

0:01:420:01:46

# Are the richest memories

0:01:460:01:50

# I don't want to stay the same

0:01:500:01:54

# I want to look back proud some day

0:01:540:01:58

# The sound of change all I want to hear

0:01:580:02:03

# But it

0:02:030:02:06

# It won't change if we keep hanging on

0:02:060:02:11

# What's that

0:02:110:02:12

# That sound

0:02:130:02:14

# What's that

0:02:150:02:16

# That sound

0:02:170:02:19

# We're lost

0:02:200:02:21

# And found

0:02:220:02:23

-# He's lost

-# We're lost

0:02:240:02:26

-# She's found

-# And found

0:02:260:02:28

# We're lost

0:02:280:02:29

# And found

0:02:300:02:31

One more time!

0:02:310:02:32

# We're lost

0:02:320:02:33

# And found. #

0:02:340:02:35

CHEERING

0:02:380:02:40

In today's lesson, we'll be going over vocal ranges -

0:02:480:02:52

how you can find it and...

0:02:520:02:53

Yeah, let's take a seat and we'll show you.

0:02:530:02:56

To find your vocal range, first off, if you have a piano,

0:02:560:03:02

just look for middle C - it should sound something like this...

0:03:020:03:04

PLAYS MIDDLE C

0:03:040:03:07

And try to match that with your own voice, so...

0:03:070:03:10

# La... #

0:03:100:03:12

And then to find your range, actually,

0:03:120:03:16

just start from C and work your way down, singing each of the notes

0:03:160:03:20

until you find one that you can't sing.

0:03:200:03:22

And that will be...

0:03:220:03:24

The lowest note you can sing will be the bottom of your range.

0:03:240:03:27

And then do the same thing, starting from middle C,

0:03:270:03:30

and work your way up.

0:03:300:03:31

And whatever note is the highest, that would be the top of your range.

0:03:310:03:35

-Yeah.

-So that's just how you find a range, yeah.

0:03:350:03:37

Yeah, and don't be discouraged if you can't hit the note right away,

0:03:370:03:41

like, find exactly which note it is.

0:03:410:03:44

Cos, you know, some people have trouble with that,

0:03:440:03:46

-and that's perfectly fine.

-Yeah.

0:03:460:03:47

Another thing I'm not sure you guys know is that

0:03:470:03:50

you actually have two ranges.

0:03:500:03:52

One of your ranges is your chest voice,

0:03:520:03:56

which is your stronger, more powerful voice,

0:03:560:03:59

and then you also have your head voice, or falsetto.

0:03:590:04:03

So, what's the difference between those two?

0:04:030:04:06

So we have the...

0:04:060:04:07

-# Ah... #

-SINGS IN CHEST VOICE

0:04:070:04:09

-# Ah... #

-SINGS IN HEAD VOICE

0:04:090:04:12

Yeah, so most of the time you can go a little bit higher

0:04:120:04:14

in your head voice or falsetto.

0:04:140:04:17

Another really cool thing to note

0:04:170:04:19

when it comes to chest voice and head voice, or falsetto,

0:04:190:04:22

is to go through the scales, because there's going to be a certain point

0:04:220:04:25

in your range when you're working up

0:04:250:04:27

when you're going to have to transition to head voice.

0:04:270:04:29

-Right - that's a tricky transition.

-Yeah, it can be really hard

0:04:290:04:31

and awkward, because all of a sudden you've got your chest and it's like,

0:04:310:04:34

"Whoa! I can't sing that any more in chest."

0:04:340:04:36

And for some people that transition will be earlier, some later,

0:04:360:04:39

so it's really important to know where that happens

0:04:390:04:41

so you can smooth it out and just be aware of it.

0:04:410:04:43

You know, if your strengths are, "I can belt really, really high,"

0:04:430:04:46

or, "I have a really strong head voice," or something like that,

0:04:460:04:49

so it's a really important thing to know.

0:04:490:04:50

-All right, guys, see you later.

-Bye!
