This is the story of me, my crazy summer...

I am on the red carpet and I am about to meet the star of the movie.

..and my even crazier family.

I'm in Los Angeles on holiday, cooking like crazy,

writing my food blog and dancing to a brilliant summer beat.

We're music crazy in our house.

Pop music is the soundtrack to our lives.

But we have all got totally different tastes!

Ah!

My older sister Megan is off to a Britney Spears concert

-for her birthday treat tonight.

-I'm so excited, I really can't wait.

She's obsessed with her. She thinks she's the best singer ever.

Today, we're going music mad and having

a competition to see who can make the best pop video.

# If you like it, then you should have put a ring on it... #

So, the big question is...

# Pour the drinks, bring the noise... #

Megan and Holly are choosing which songs to dance to

in their music videos.

Girls, can you turn that down, please?

But Mum's not happy about it being so loud!

MUSIC STOPS

Better?

I can't even hear myself think. I'm not having that noise.

MUSIC BLARES What's going on?

Uh-oh! Perhaps this isn't a good time

to try out my new look and dance moves.

Could you please turn the music down?

Before that, I'm cooking a chart-topping lunch.

I'm making popcorn shrimp and chicken... Pop, pop music, get it?

..a scrummy kale and artichoke dip with carrot musical instruments

for dipping and birthday cake pops shaped like xylophone mallets.

The whole house is going pop-tastic today.

I'm even thinking of becoming a singing chef.

# La, la, la... #

Oh, maybe not.

From pop music to my popcorn shrimp and chicken. First, the popcorn.

Add oil to a pan,

pour in the popcorn and make sure you put the lid on.

In a minute, you'll hear it start to pop.

Oh, I just heard one.

-Definitely popping.

-What ARE you doing?

-Making popcorn shrimp and chicken.

-Yum.

Because today, Mum, it's all about pop music and singing.

We could have a sing-along as we cook.

I know what's coming.

BLENDER DROWNS OUT SINGING Quick, blitz!

That stopped her. OK, my popcorn...

Next, mix the popcorn with some breadcrumbs,

crack three eggs into a bowl,

dip the shrimp and in egg, then into the popcorn breadcrumb mix.

Now I am going to get some chicken, into the egg,

into the coating and onto my tray.

I need to go wash them.

You always wash your hands after touching raw meat.

Pop in a hot oven for about 15 minutes.

Holly, Meg and mate Byrom are going all out for their music videos.

They're hitting a dance studio to hook up

with LA's most amazing choreographer - Abigail Oliver.

So, we are doing a competition with our younger sister

about who can create the best music video.

We are going to just do some great dancing today, OK? You ready?

First things first, warm-up time.

-Now to start learning some cool LA shapes.

I think I'm going to have to try it. Mm.

It's fantastic with kale and artichoke dip which I will

show you how to make in a sec.

These are great for parties.

I think I can hear mum singing in the shower.

Ooh... She must be singing more of her songs.

Mum, please stop!

I think I might have gone a bit over the top with this next dish,

but making musical instruments out of carrots, how cool will that be?

And eating them afterwards with my delicious dip, even better!

First, the dip. Chop and saute some kale.

Saute means to fry it.

Add shallots and garlic.

Then season with salt and pepper.

And that is done.

Add Greek yoghurt to a bowl, artichokes,

wholegrain mustard and lemon zest.

And then, I'm going to add my kale.

Got to get a snap of this.

That is notably good.

Get it? Note, music.

Dip done, now for my musical carrots to go with it.

-I am roping in Mum to help.

-Really fiddly, isn't it?

With a screwdriver and a knife, we are hollowing out the carrots,

adding finger holes and putting in musical mouthpieces

to make Ramsey recorders.

-That one definitely works.

When you get your grown-up to help with this,

make sure they're careful.

He can see all the fun he's missing.

-The gang are back and they are getting Mum in on the pop act.

I seem to have lost the ability to say no.

I'm co-starring and Holly is on camera.

Mum isn't as excited about being in the music video as I am.

-TILLY CHEERS

-Go.

But it doesn't take her long to get into the swing of things,

even if she isn't a natural pop star.

Sorry!

-Holly, did we get that?

-I think so.

Mum's video done, now to make my final dish. Cake pops.

My cake pops are super number-one delicious and healthy too. Sort of.

What's interesting about these cakes

is that they are made out of potatoes, sweet potatoes.

I roasted these in a hot oven for 45 minutes

and then cooled them down and now I'm peeling them.

Add some oats.

Ground almonds, cinnamon...

The cinnamon will give it a really nice flavour.

..a pinch of flaxseed, a pinch of sesame seed, coconut,

walnut, chopped dates...

Oh, so it didn't come out in the bowl. They came out on my head.

Add vanilla. Now, the messy part. Thoroughly mix everything together.

I know it's quite unusual using sweet potato,

but it does taste really delicious. Shape the mixture into balls...

They should be about this big

..and push in lollipop sticks. Perfect.

They really do look like xylophone sticks.

Pop in the fridge to firm up.

ALARM TRILLS

Now, melt some chocolate over hot water or in a microwave...

I'll get my cake pops. ..and coat your cake pops.

And onto the tray. Into the fridge these go.

As the cake pops set, it's time to record my super awesome dance video.

-Meg's on camera.

-Go.

I need to give it my all if I'm going to beat the others.

I'm pulling out all my best dance moves. Meg, how was that?

I have no words to describe that, to be honest.

I think that's a good thing?!

Perfect.

Here, I've got my chocolate ones and these ones are left

without chocolate for Holly because Holly doesn't really like chocolate.

I'm going to get a picture for my blog.

Dancing is great exercise so after our musical work out,

everyone is really hungry.

We have musical carrots.

but that's actually really nice and so light.

so I am switching from dancing with pop divas

to talking food with the chef diva.

Just joking, Dad.

Dad, today was music themed because for Megan's 18th birthday,

she is going to Britney Spears.

-So, I made an artichoke and kale dip and these carrots,

Mum and I later turned into musical instruments.

My next dish was popcorn shrimp and popcorn chicken...

The outside is chocolate but the inside is sweet potato...

-And what did the potato taste like?

-It tasted good.

-And it was really healthy.

So, music does bring people together and it gets everybody excited

especially around mealtime.

Touchdown in Las Vegas and it's the big concert build-up.

I'm so excited, I really can't wait. Look, it's Britney.

Getting to see your music idol in concert

is a brilliant 18th birthday present. I hope Meg is loving it.
