Episode 2 Meet the Kittens

Today on Meet The kittens we're... Well, before we meet the kittens,

first of all, we've got to FIND the kittens.

They've got to be here somewhere.

I hope they haven't been hoovered up by mistake! That'd be bad.

I think the mums, sisters Coco and Cleo,

must have hidden them.

There they are!

Why are you hiding from me?

We're not hiding from you.

We're hiding from that hairy great lump outside!

-HE PANTS

-Who are you calling a lump?

I'm lovely! Has anyone got a ball I can chase?

Or a stick? What about a kitten? Oh, I love chasing kittens!

They don't bounce like a ball, but they're easier to catch.

So that's why you hid your kittens!

You were scared the dog would chase them.

Yes, us cats and dogs often don't get on.

Sometimes we fight like, er... well, cats and dogs, really.

Go on, Rover! Clear off.

That's it, you big lummox, jump in the water and chase a fish.

SNORING

The kittens are still little bundles of fur that you can

hardly tell apart, and Cleo's busy looking after them.

I've told you before, I CAN tell them apart.

I'll tell you what though, this being a mum is hard graft.

OMG!

Cleo, where's Coco while you're doing all the work?

I was wondering that myself.

See if you can find her and tell her to get her backside in here, pronto.

Whoops! Busted.

I'm, er, not having a lie down, I'm...er,

on guard in case that dog comes back.

That's right! That's what I'm doing.

If that lazy sister of mine doesn't come back soon and help,

I shall tie her whiskers in a knot.

I'll just make sure that dog's not over here.

And while I'm at it, I'll have my lunch.

Coco, I thought you were taking it in turns to look after the kittens.

We are! Cleo's going to do the first few years

and then I'll take over.

Just kidding! I'll be back before you know it.

While Coco is stuffing her face,

Cleo's doing the important task of making sure the kittens are fed.

Good job someone's doing it.

Can you imagine the noise of 11 of them screaming, "Mum! Is tea ready?

"I'm starving!"?

Slurp!

Slurp-smack-slurp!

Meow!

The kittens are asleep, so Coco and Cleo have gone outside for some

fresh air and a bit of peace and quiet.

Let's climb up one of those trees and get stuck!

Make them call the fire brigade!

Come on, I'm bored. Let's play!

I've had a sleep now, I'm full of energy. You should try it.

Wha-ha!

Oh, all right then. I'll have another sleep instead.

Here's an idea, Coco, you go inside and look after the kids for a while.

All right, I'll take a turn. How hard can it be?

Result! They're zonked out.

This looking after kittens lark, simples!

I'm doing such a good job of being a mum,

I'll treat myself to a bit of a clean, mmm... Um, cheesy.

Great minds think alike.

I'll have one as well.

Cats are very clean animals and like to keep clean everywhere.

And I mean...everywhere.

Oh, do you mind?

I don't take pictures of you when you're wiping YOUR bum.

Regular washing cleans dirt from the fur, clears away tangles

and gives a lovely shine to the coat.

It also cools them down in the hot weather.

Yup. Not just feeling cool, but LOOKING cool.

Meow!

Some of the kittens have woken up and they want Coco's milk.

I thought it was too good to be true.

KITTEN SNIFFLES Because their eyes are still closed,

they use the sense of smell to find where the milk is.

I can smell milk! It's here somewhere.

Got it!

Now, if Mum's called Coco and I'm drinking her milk,

why isn't it chocolate flavoured?

Yum, yum, pig's bum!

Full up with milk, it's back to sleep.

For Mum as well.

Boing-boing-boing!

Next morning,

and the kittens start to open their eyes for the very first time.

Hang on! Who's sticking a great big camera in my face?

Photobomb!

Go on, give us a go. I'll take a selfie!

To start with, the vision is a bit blurry, but it soon sharpens up.

Wow, this is exciting! Well, it's just a blue towel,

but it's exciting for me!

Look at the size of this kitten. It's enormous!

Oh, no. It's my mum.

Cleo comes in to check what's happening.

Although they can see now, they still can't hear properly.

And they can't walk either.

Although one of them is getting pretty good at doing somersaults.

Uh! Ta-da!

It won't be long before I can walk.

Go on! A-almost!

Oh, I give up.

At the moment, the kittens need constant washing.

They don't even know how to go to the toilet yet.

Has anyone got the instruction manual? I think I need a wee.

Coco and Cleo clean them, and this helps them to wee.

Oh, that's better. But you might want to give this bed a wash now.

That's what us mothers do, feed them, wash them, clean after them

and do we get any thanks? Oh, no.

All we get is, "I'm hungry! I'm cold! I'm tired!"

And as soon as they're old enough, they're off out

with their friends, chasing mice.

And they never have time for their mums any more.

Enjoy them all you can, Coco,

they're not going to be cute kittens for long.

It's been a busy day and it's time for a sleep.

Oh, good.

I've only had eight sleeps today. I'm exhausted.

I can't wait to put my paws up.

And it's a chance for Mum to have a cuddle.

By cuddling, they all stay warm, which is important

for kittens, as it stops them getting cold and sick.

Yes, that's what we tell them.

But you know what us mums are like.

We just love cuddles.
