# The musical imaginings of Melody. #

'There's a big cathedral where we live.

'And today, Mummy's showing me around.

'It's made of stones that are hundreds of years old.

'And the doors are huge!'

Have a feel. Let me take Fudge.

'The doors are made of really heavy wood.'

-Can you feel the shape of this?

-It's nice.

-Can you feel what shape it is?

-Like a diamond.

'The wood has things carved on it.

'It's carved with lots of patterns and decorations.'

-Flowers.

-Flowers, yeah. You've got some flower marks there.

Then, further down, what can you feel there?

It's almost like a butterfly. It's really old, isn't it?

So old that it's kind of all falling to bits a little bit.

'And there's loads of big, old nails.'

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

Can you imagine how long it took to bang those in?

MELODY GIGGLES

'It must have hurt when you knocked on a door this big!

'And then we go inside the cathedral.

'It's HUGE!

'Everything sounds different.

'We stand right in the middle

'and Mum shows me the big coloured-glass window...'

We've got some beautiful statues that have been carved.

'..a wall full of statues...

'..a really bright, tall window...

And then finally, at this side here...

'..and the organ, made up of lots of silvery pipes.'

It's used to play the music, make a nice sound.

I'll show you something over here.

'Then Mum takes me to the pulpit. It's all carved out of stone.'

-Oh, really cold!

-Very cold.

-And is it rough, is it smooth?

-Smooth.

-What is it?

-Well, this is called a pulpit,

and it's where a minister will give his sermon out

to the people who've come to pray in the cathedral.

It's a very special place, where he gives his talk.

Right, I've got one more thing to show you.

'I ask Mum if she has any church music...'

MELODY GIGGLES

'..or church door music!'

I do have a piece which I think

sounds like somebody knocking on a wooden door.

BANGING IN TIME WITH MUSIC

Sounds like someone's knocking!

Squeak! Squeak!

A church mouse.

The knocks have woken him up.

-Squeak?

-LOUD BANGING IN TIME WITH MUSIC

MELODY GASPS Another knock!

Who can that be?

Is it a fairy?

Or a lion?

Or a wizard?

Or a giant?

-BANG!

-SQUEAK!

BANG! BANG!

The mouse is a bit scared.

MELODY GIGGLES

Perhaps it's a queen.

-BANG! BANG! BANG!

-Squeak!

But it is a very loud knock. Queens don't knock that loud.

The mouse isn't so sure any more.

How can he see who's there?

Of course! The tower!

THUNDERCLAP

SQUEAKING

Hold on.

The mouse knows that voice.

THUNDERCLAP

It's his wife, Mrs Mouse.

BANG! BANG!

A huge knock! Who could that be?

Squeak.

MELODY GIGGLES

It's their little daughter.

That music made me think of somebody knocking on a big wooden door.

What did it make you think of?
