0:00:450:00:47

Ooh, I wonder if it'll snow.

0:00:470:00:50

I love snow!

0:00:500:00:52

Hmm.

0:00:520:00:54

But where does snow come from? How is it made?

0:00:540:00:58

When you need to know, go to Okido!

Hello, Zoe! Hello, Felix!

0:01:110:01:15

-BOTH:

-Hi, Messy!

0:01:150:01:16

Oh, it's very hot today,

0:01:160:01:18

so we're going to the beach to cool down.

0:01:180:01:21

Oh, it is hot here. It would be fun if it snowed though.

0:01:210:01:25

Snow? There's not much chance of snow today.

0:01:250:01:28

It's the middle of summer.

0:01:280:01:30

Oh, well, never mind.

0:01:300:01:32

HE WHISTLES

0:01:320:01:33

What is that?

0:01:330:01:35

Ooh! Looks like a storm coming.

0:01:350:01:39

It's heading straight for us.

0:01:390:01:41

FELIX SHIVERS

0:01:410:01:43

And it's got very cold too.

0:01:430:01:45

Wha? Hoo!

0:01:460:01:48

What's that? It's a snowflake!

0:01:480:01:51

Look, Zoe, Felix, it's snowing!

0:01:530:01:56

Snowing?! It can't be!

0:01:560:01:59

It is!

0:01:590:02:00

FELIX AND ZOE: It's snowing!

0:02:020:02:03

It's snowing, it's snowing, it's snowing, it's snowing!

0:02:030:02:07

I LOVE SNOW!

0:02:090:02:11

Uh! What do you think of my snowman?

0:02:130:02:16

Heehee! It looks like Messy. Hee-hee!

0:02:160:02:19

Ya-ha! It's a snowmessy.

0:02:190:02:22

Woohoo-hoo!

0:02:220:02:24

# Snow, snow, lovely snow! #

0:02:250:02:29

This snow is very deep.

0:02:290:02:31

-It's just not stopping.

-It's a real snow storm.

0:02:310:02:35

Snowflakes! Lovely snowflakes.

0:02:350:02:39

Oh! And here comes the Cloudship.

0:02:390:02:42

ALL: Hi, Zim, Zam, Zoom! ZIM AND ZAM: Hello, everyone!

0:02:440:02:47

We've been having fun in the snow.

0:02:470:02:49

But it's really getting heavy now.

0:02:490:02:52

We know, it's been snowing all over Okido.

0:02:520:02:55

Nobody's ever seen so much snow.

0:02:550:02:58

It's caused a lot of problems.

0:02:580:03:00

People can't go to the shops.

0:03:020:03:04

Some are stuck in their houses.

0:03:040:03:07

CAR SKIDS

0:03:070:03:08

CRASH

0:03:080:03:10

If it doesn't stop snowing, we'll never go to the beach.

0:03:110:03:15

Huh?! Never go to the beach?!

0:03:150:03:17

You're right.

0:03:190:03:21

But why is it snowing now?

0:03:210:03:24

It's the middle of the summer.

0:03:240:03:26

We've been trying to find out.

0:03:260:03:29

Come into the Cloudship and we'll tell you what we know.

0:03:290:03:33

First of all, how is snow made?

0:03:330:03:36

Well, that is very interesting.

0:03:370:03:41

Zoom?

0:03:410:03:43

When it's very cold, moist air hits tiny, tiny particles

0:03:430:03:48

and they freeze.

0:03:480:03:49

Just like water turns to ice in the garden when it's very cold.

0:03:490:03:55

Yes. But these particles are called crystals.

0:03:550:04:00

These crystals start to fall and, on the way down,

0:04:000:04:04

more water freezes on them

0:04:040:04:07

and they start to grow tiny little arms.

0:04:070:04:10

And they turn into what we call snowflakes.

0:04:100:04:14

Ooh! I love snowflakes!

0:04:140:04:16

But did you know that every snowflake is different?

0:04:160:04:20

-Really?

-That's amazing. But why?

0:04:200:04:24

Well, on the way down, the air temperature isn't always the same.

0:04:240:04:29

Some air is colder. Some is warmer.

0:04:290:04:33

And that affects the way the snowflake grows.

0:04:330:04:36

If it's very cold, it gets spiky arms.

0:04:360:04:39

But, if it's a bit warmer, the arms are flat like plates.

0:04:390:04:45

So, they can never be exactly the same.

0:04:450:04:47

Because they've never fallen through the same bit of sky.

0:04:470:04:52

I love snowflakes!

0:04:520:04:53

But it wasn't cold today.

0:04:530:04:55

It was warm and sunny.

0:04:550:04:56

So why did it snow?

0:04:560:04:59

We followed the snowstorm on our screens.

0:04:590:05:02

And look at this map of Okido, it came out of the mountains here.

0:05:020:05:08

Then covered the whole of Okido.

0:05:080:05:12

But we really don't know why.

0:05:120:05:14

In summer, it's only snowy right up in the mountains,

0:05:140:05:18

where it's still very cold.

0:05:180:05:20

If only we could go inside the snowstorm

0:05:200:05:22

to see what was happening.

0:05:220:05:24

-ZOE GASPS

-We can!

0:05:240:05:26

We'll use the Shrinkasizer to make us very small

0:05:260:05:30

and see the snowflakes up close.

0:05:300:05:32

It's a brilliant idea!

0:05:320:05:34

Balabalaboomboom!

0:05:340:05:37

Now, when I press the button, the Shrinkasizer will shrink

0:05:390:05:42

you down so you're as tiny as a snowflake.

0:05:420:05:46

Then we can find out why the snowflakes have

0:05:460:05:48

come down from the mountains.

0:05:480:05:50

And why the whole of Okido is covered in snow in summer.

0:05:500:05:54

OK, everybody.

0:05:540:05:56

Shrinkasize!

0:05:560:05:57

ALL: Whaaaa!

0:05:590:06:01

TITTERING

0:06:030:06:05

-SNOWFLAKES:

-Hello. Who are you?

0:06:050:06:07

Ooh-hoo-hoo! Hello. I'm Messy.

0:06:070:06:11

-Hello, I'm Zoe.

-I'm Felix.

0:06:110:06:14

Are you snowflakes?

0:06:140:06:16

-ALL:

-Yes, we are, that's right.

0:06:160:06:19

You're so beautiful!

0:06:190:06:21

Oh! Hehehehe! Aw, you're just saying that.

0:06:210:06:25

You're like icy flowers.

0:06:250:06:28

And you're like a Christmas tree.

0:06:280:06:31

Ohh! So you really are all different.

0:06:310:06:35

Yeah, we're all completely different, it's brilliant.

0:06:350:06:39

I've got long arms.

0:06:390:06:41

I've got square ones.

0:06:410:06:42

You'll never see two snowflakes just the same.

0:06:420:06:46

ALL: Ever, ever, ever, ever.

0:06:460:06:48

Oh, you're all so pretty!

0:06:480:06:50

THEY GIGGLE

0:06:500:06:51

Um, hmm. May we ask you a question?

0:06:540:06:58

Ooh, yes. We love talking to people.

0:06:580:07:02

Why did you come to Okido on a summer's day?

0:07:020:07:06

Well, usually, we only come in the winter.

0:07:060:07:10

And in the summer, we stay high up in the mountains,

0:07:100:07:13

where it's cold.

0:07:130:07:15

But there's nobody for us to play with there.

0:07:150:07:19

So, we thought we'd come here and make it very cold and snowy,

0:07:190:07:23

so everyone could have fun.

0:07:230:07:26

Heh, but we still haven't seen anybody to play with.

0:07:260:07:30

We've looked everywhere.

0:07:300:07:32

Oh, dear.

0:07:320:07:34

Well, the trouble is you snowed so much that everyone stayed inside.

0:07:340:07:41

You see, people don't really want it to be cold and snowy in the summer.

0:07:410:07:46

Oh, we didn't know that.

0:07:460:07:48

Ooh, we didn't want to cause trouble.

0:07:480:07:50

No, we just wanted to have fun.

0:07:500:07:53

We're very sorry.

0:07:530:07:55

I think we should go home.

0:07:550:07:57

Yes. Back to the mountain.

0:07:570:08:01

We'll come back in the winter.

0:08:010:08:03

When people like to play in the snow.

0:08:030:08:05

SNOWFLAKES: Bye-bye! See you in the winter.

0:08:050:08:10

Hmm. I've had an idea.

0:08:100:08:12

Zam, can you hear me?

0:08:140:08:16

Yes, Zoe. Did you find out what the problem is?

0:08:160:08:19

Yes, and I think I know how to fix it.

0:08:190:08:22

We're going to build a summer snow park for the snowflakes!

0:08:230:08:28

Yes. So, even in the summer,

0:08:280:08:29

people will want to go and play with the snowflakes.

0:08:290:08:33

Hooray!

0:08:330:08:35

THUMP

0:08:440:08:45

Thank you, everybody, for helping to build our special snow park.

0:09:040:09:08

ALL: Hooray!

0:09:080:09:11

Now...where are the snowflakes?

0:09:110:09:15

SNOWFLAKES: Here we are! Hello!

0:09:150:09:18

Any time you want to play, snowflakes, you can come here!

0:09:190:09:24

It's snowing!

0:09:240:09:26

ALL: Hooray!

0:09:280:09:30

Yay! Ya-ay!

0:09:300:09:32

Yay!

0:09:340:09:35

THEY GIGGLE

0:09:380:09:40

Uh, where's Messy?

0:09:400:09:42

Woohoo-hoo!

0:09:420:09:44

Wow!

0:09:440:09:46

Hoo-hoo!

0:09:480:09:49

Uh-oh.

0:09:490:09:50

Whoa-oh-oh, look out! Messy Monster coming through!

0:09:500:09:55

Look out!

0:09:550:09:56

Hoo-hoo! Balabalaboomboom!

0:09:560:09:59

CRASH

0:10:060:10:08

This is the best summer's day ever! Don't you think?

0:10:080:10:12

-BOTH:

-Yes, Messy.

0:10:120:10:14

That was so much fun! But it's time I was heading home.

0:10:140:10:18

Bye, everyone!

0:10:180:10:19

-ALL:

-Bye, Messy!

0:10:190:10:21

Ah...

0:10:210:10:22

So now I know all about snowflakes.

0:10:220:10:26

Shame it hasn't snowed here, though.

0:10:260:10:30

Ah! Yay! Snowflakes!

0:10:300:10:33

And every one is different.

0:10:330:10:36

Balabalaboomboom!

0:10:360:10:38

Bye-bye!
