Oh, it's very hot today,

so we're going to the beach to cool down.

This snow is very deep.

We've been having fun in the snow.

But it's really getting heavy now.

We know, it's been snowing all over Okido.

Nobody's ever seen so much snow.

It's caused a lot of problems.

People can't go to the shops.

Some are stuck in their houses.

If it doesn't stop snowing, we'll never go to the beach.

Huh?! Never go to the beach?!

You're right.

But why is it snowing now?

It's the middle of the summer.

We've been trying to find out.

Come into the Cloudship and we'll tell you what we know.

First of all, how is snow made?

Well, that is very interesting.

Zoom?

When it's very cold, moist air hits tiny, tiny particles

and they freeze.

Just like water turns to ice in the garden when it's very cold.

Yes. But these particles are called crystals.

These crystals start to fall and, on the way down,

more water freezes on them

and they start to grow tiny little arms.

And they turn into what we call snowflakes.

Ooh! I love snowflakes!

But did you know that every snowflake is different?

-Really?

-That's amazing. But why?

Well, on the way down, the air temperature isn't always the same.

Some air is colder. Some is warmer.

And that affects the way the snowflake grows.

If it's very cold, it gets spiky arms.

But, if it's a bit warmer, the arms are flat like plates.

So, they can never be exactly the same.

Because they've never fallen through the same bit of sky.

I love snowflakes!

But it wasn't cold today.

It was warm and sunny.

So why did it snow?

We followed the snowstorm on our screens.

And look at this map of Okido, it came out of the mountains here.

Then covered the whole of Okido.

But we really don't know why.

In summer, it's only snowy right up in the mountains,

where it's still very cold.

If only we could go inside the snowstorm

to see what was happening.

We'll use the Shrinkasizer to make us very small

and see the snowflakes up close.

It's a brilliant idea!

you down so you're as tiny as a snowflake.

Then we can find out why the snowflakes have

come down from the mountains.

And why the whole of Okido is covered in snow in summer.

Why did you come to Okido on a summer's day?

Well, usually, we only come in the winter.

And in the summer, we stay high up in the mountains,

where it's cold.

But there's nobody for us to play with there.

So, we thought we'd come here and make it very cold and snowy,

so everyone could have fun.

Heh, but we still haven't seen anybody to play with.

We've looked everywhere.

Oh, dear.

Well, the trouble is you snowed so much that everyone stayed inside.

You see, people don't really want it to be cold and snowy in the summer.

Oh, we didn't know that.

Ooh, we didn't want to cause trouble.

No, we just wanted to have fun.

We're very sorry.

I think we should go home.

Yes. Back to the mountain.

We'll come back in the winter.

When people like to play in the snow.
