Episode 15 Mister Maker Around the World

Hello! It's making time.

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world!

Today we are off to South Africa to make a really big helicopter!

And we show you how to make your own little helicopter.

We travel down under to create a funny fur monster

in just a minute.

But first, it's time to get in an arty twirl in the countryside.

Wow! Look at that!

We've arrived in the UK.

I'm sure we'll find some arty ideas.

Let's have a look around.

There is so much to see here - rivers, ships,

castles, and pretty gardens with lots of plants and flowers.

These trees are really nice.

Lovely and leafy, and they've just given me a great idea!

Let's try something.

Have fun with twirls by making a terrific twirly tree picture.

Joseph is on his way to help us make our picture.

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

Excellent!

The Marvellous Maker Case has become a marvellous making table.

Now we just need some arty things to make our picture. We will need...

Some paper or card.

Some scissors, and a pen.

And of course, we need one more thing.

That's right. We need a party blower!

Scrappz, how did you get here?

SCRAPPZ REPLIES

I haven't got time for a party at the moment.

Take this back, please, and go and find me a glue stick.

That's just what we need. Thank you. Go on, get back to the party.

We have a glue stick!

Excellent.

We've got everything we need.

Although it does feel like something is missing.

Do you know what it is? No?

-I'm here, Mister Maker.

-Of course! Joseph! It's you, my friend.

It's lovely to see you. Thanks for coming.

You're just in time to help us make our picture!

It's a twirly tree picture and it's got lots of green, curly leaves.

-Now, Joseph, are you ready?

-Yes.

-Good. Are you ready?

Fantastic! Let's get making.

Now, the first thing we need, Joseph,

is a big piece of paper or card for our background.

Now, I think this will work well.

We're going to use blue, because it's going to be the sky.

Now we need to make the forest floor. Can you pass me that?

Nice light brown paper. Let's get tearing!

We've also torn some green paper for the trees.

Make sure you leave a gap at the bottom and the top like this.

We need some more paper now.

We're going to cut the paper into lots and lots of lovely strips.

Let's use brown paper for brown strips.

And why don't you cut some strips, Joseph, from that green paper?

-We must be careful though, because scissors are...

-Sharp!

-That's right.

Now, we've got lots of brown strips, and Joseph has made green strips.

We're going to start with the brown strips now.

These are going to be the tree trunks.

So let's start to lay them down.

It looks good if you tuck the trunks under the leaves

at different angles.

And when you've finished arranging the trunks, stick everything down.

Our picture is really starting to take shape.

-But something is missing. What is it, Joseph?

-Twirls?

If you say so. Music, please!

Lovely. Oh!

-Mister Maker?

-Yes, Joseph.

-I mean the twirls on the trees.

I knew that really! We need to make the twirls on the trees!

And to do that, we need...

One of our strips, and a pen or pencil.

We take one of the strips and just wind it around the pen.

And when you get to the end, carefully slip it off the pen

and you have a curly, twirly, springy shape.

Now, we need to make lots of these, my friend.

So let's get twirling!

Right.

Keep going until you have curled up lots of paper strips into twirls.

Now stick down all of the curly twirls

on to the green part of the picture.

It looks good if they're close together, like this.

Your twirly tree picture is finished!

-I'm on my way.

And today, my friends, we're going to make this!

It's a fur monster!

And you can store all your important things inside,

like this - my all-important secret emergency hair gel pot!

Yes, you never know when you're going to need this.

There, that looks good. Does it look good?

Of course it does. Let's put the gel back.

YAWNS AND GULPS

And we can make one of these by using these arty things.

Let's have a look.

We've got a clean, empty plastic container like this

with a lid. We've got some fun fur, a glue stick, two pom-poms.

Two pipe cleaners, some card or paper shapes - oval shapes

and circle shapes there.

We've got some stickers and some sticky tape.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this

fur monster in just one minute?

ALL: Don't be silly!!

Oh...

Well, I will have to be...

very quick, but don't worry, I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

Are you ready?

ALL: Yes!!

Are you ready?

Brilliant! Let's make it in a minute.

ALL: Three, two, one...

Start the clock. The first thing we're

going to do is take our container

and stick these oval shapes on the bottom.

These are going to be the feet.

Use a long piece of sticky tape for this

and let's turn it up. Now we are going to get

our pipe cleaners and stick those on

each side to make the arms.

There we go. Now let's stick

the other one on.

There we go. Right, let's get these circles.

Stick these on the end of the pipe cleaners

to make hands. There's one,

there we go.

Now another bit of sticky tape.

Brilliant. Now, let's get some glue

and we put lots of glue on top like that.

And then we bring in our fun fur. Now we get

our lovely pom-poms

and we stick them in. There's one, there's

two and now we just need our stickers to

go on top because these are the pupils

of our lovely, fantastic furry

fur monster!

ALL: YES!

Phew! I did it just in time. But if you've got more than

a minute you could try these other ideas too.

How about this multi-coloured monster with four arms

and a bright red tongue?

Or you could even try a big purple monster

with three eyes and fun-foam hands.

Fur monsters made in just one minute. Why don't you try it?

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Let's go back to the beginning and take a look.

Stick some oval-shaped pieces of paper to the bottom

of the container. Attach two pipe-cleaners for arms.

And stick some round pieces of paper to the pipe-cleaners for hands.

Glue a piece of fun fur to the container lid,

add pom-poms and stickers for eyes, and your fur monster is finished

and ready to put things in.

Oh, what picture would you like to make?

-Helicopter.

-Oh, a helicopter. I like helicopters.

What does a helicopter use to stay in the air?

-Propellers.

-Propellers, that's right.

Everybody do a helicopter impression.

ALL MAKE WHIRRING NOISES

-And where's our helicopter flying?

-In the sky.

-In the sky.

And what else will be in the sky?

-White cloud.

-The sun.

-Excellent work, Mini Makers.

I think we're ready, aren't we?

ALL: Yeah!

Let's make it together.

I'm making a cloud.

These cups are for the propellers.

This is the rest of the helicopter.

And we'll need a nice blue sky.

SCRAPPZ SPEAKS

We are having great fun making our big picture

and that has just given me a great idea.

Why don't you make something too?

Make a brilliant bottle helicopter that's great to play with

and fun to make.

You will need - a cardboard tube and some scissors.

Paint and an empty plastic bottle.

Lolly sticks and some sticky tape.

Plastic lids and gloopy glue. Tissue paper and paint brushes.

A glue stick and some stickers.

First, carefully cut a small cardboard tube in half.

Then, tape a lolly stick to each edge like this.

Now, tape the tube and lolly sticks to a clean empty bottle.

Stick a drinks lid to the other side of the bottle.

And tape another lid to the base of the bottle.

Now, cover everything in gloopy glue and coloured tissue paper like this.

And leave it to dry.

Next, paint a stripe along the side of your helicopter.

You can even paint a window on the front.

Then, stick two lolly sticks together

to make a small cross shape.

And four lolly sticks together like this to make a bigger cross shape.

These will be the propellers.

Stick the smaller one to the back of the helicopter.

And the bigger one on top.

Finally, add stickers for decoration.

Your helicopter is finished and ready to play with.
