Get ready for an arty adventure around the world. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:50
Today we travel to South Africa to build a huge sand castle | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
and we find out how to make | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
your own little sand castle that will last for ever. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
We head down under to make a cup creature in under a minute. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
But first, we're off to Brazil in search of an arty idea. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:09
Whoa! | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14 | |
Look where we are! | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
We're in Brazil. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
Oh, what a beautiful, exciting place. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
There must be so much to see. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
Let's have a look around. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
Brazil is full of amazing things to look at. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
The brilliant beaches... | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
the tropical flowers... | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
the fantastic trees. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
And do you know what? | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
These terrific trees have just given me a great idea. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:45
Let's try something. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
Try making a colourful rainy rainforest picture | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
for a really great effect. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
Let's make it! | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
We'll need a Mini Maker to help us. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
Let's see if there's one nearby. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
Hello, Mini Makers. Who's going to help me today? | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06
Hello, Mister Maker, I'm Matilda. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Oh, hello, Matilda. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
I can help you. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
Oh, that's great news. Everyone else, thank you very much. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:16
Oh, fantastic. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
Matilda is on her way to help us make our picture. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
But first, we'll need somewhere to make it. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
Oh, wonderful, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
the Marvellous Maker Case has become a Marvellous Making Table. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:34
Now we need some arty things to help us make our picture. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
We'll need... | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
some thick card... | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
..a water sprayer... | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
and, of course, we'll need one more thing. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
That's right, we'll need... | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
a boomerang. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:54
A boomerang? | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
We don't need a boomerang! Scrappz! | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
I found this boomerang in Australia, didn't I? | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
I don't need it right now. I'll just get rid of it. OK, here we go. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
What we do need are some felt-tip pens. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
Could you find some, please? | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
Oh, thank you. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
Whoa! What a catch, eh? | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
Oh, well done, Scrappz, lots of felt-tip pens. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
Let me take those. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
Open up! That's it, off you go. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
We've got some felt-tip pens. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
Excellent. We've got everything we need. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:32
Although it does feel like something's missing. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:36
Do you know what it is? No? | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38
Um... Er... | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
I'm here, Mister Maker. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:42
Of course, Matilda! It's you, my friend. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
It's lovely to see you. You're just in time to help me make our picture. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:50
It's a rainy rainforest picture. Very colourful. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:55
-Are you ready? -Yes. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
Good. Are you ready? | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
Fantastic. Let's get making. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
Now, Matilda, this picture is going to get wet | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
and it can get a little bit messy, | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
so it's a good idea to put down some old paper or some newspaper first. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:12
-I think we should put on an apron, don't you? -Yes. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
Yes, I think so. Right, this way. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
-Excellent. Well, we look great, don't we? -Yes. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
Right, let's get our big piece of card, like this. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:25
Now, Matilda, this needs to be card | 0:04:25 | 0:04:29
because it's going to get very wet. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:31
We're also going to use felt-tip pens. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
Could you pass me a felt-tip pen, please? Thank you. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
I think we should test out this felt-tip pen first. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:41
So, I'm just going to take a little piece of card, like that. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:45
I'm going to write my name - Mister Maker. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Now, when this pen is sprayed with water, something magical happens. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:56
I'm going to put that in front of you, Matilda. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
Why don't you take the water sprayer and spray the pen with water. | 0:04:59 | 0:05:04
Well done. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:05
If I just take that, we can see all the colours have smudged. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:10
That is a great effect. That was a really good test as well, Matilda. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:14
I think we're ready to draw our picture. | 0:05:14 | 0:05:17
I'm going to start off by drawing some terrific trees. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:21
Begin by drawing trunks and branches...like this. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
What else shall we have in our rainy rainforest picture? | 0:05:26 | 0:05:30
-Flowers and leaves. -That's a great idea. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
And how about we add some scribbly loops at the top of our picture | 0:05:33 | 0:05:38
to make some dangling vines and creepers? | 0:05:38 | 0:05:42
All right, then, let's get drawing! | 0:05:42 | 0:05:44
Make sure you add lots of different details in different colours... | 0:05:46 | 0:05:51
..and keep going until your picture's finished. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58
Instead of rain, we're going to use our water sprayer. | 0:05:58 | 0:06:01
Now, ask an adult to help you find one of these. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:04
Make sure it's clean and that it's filled with water, | 0:06:04 | 0:06:08
because this is going to be the rain in our rainy rainforest. | 0:06:08 | 0:06:12
All right, then, Matilda, let it rain! | 0:06:12 | 0:06:15
Look at that, Matilda! What's happening? | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
-Smudging. -That's right. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25
All the colours are smudging. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:27
-Does that look good, Matilda? -Yes. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
I think it might be a good idea if we now pick up the card | 0:06:30 | 0:06:36
and just let the water drip down the picture so all the colours run. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:42
And, when you're happy with your picture, leave it to dry. | 0:06:42 | 0:06:47
It's a brilliant rainy rainforest picture. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
And if you enjoy that, why not try these other ideas, too? | 0:06:50 | 0:06:55
You could make a wonderful waterfall | 0:06:55 | 0:06:57
with lots of watery plants around a bright blue lake. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
Or you could even make a brilliant volcano | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
with plumes of smoke and watery lava. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:07
Why not try one of those ideas today? | 0:07:07 | 0:07:10
Thank you so much for your help, Matilda. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:13
BOTH: We made it! | 0:07:13 | 0:07:14
High-five! | 0:07:14 | 0:07:16
Now, that's a fantastic effect. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:18
Well done, Matilda. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
Wow, look at that - Sugarloaf Mountain. | 0:07:23 | 0:07:27
What a sight. That is just... | 0:07:27 | 0:07:30
CASE BOINGS | 0:07:30 | 0:07:32
What's that noise? It's coming from the Marvellous Maker Case. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:36
Can you hear that? | 0:07:36 | 0:07:38
BOING! | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
It's the Shapes! | 0:07:40 | 0:07:42
They're off on their journey around the world. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:45
-Waaay! -Aaaah! | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
# I am a shape La la la la | 0:07:49 | 0:07:52
# I am a circle | 0:07:54 | 0:07:57
# I am a triangle | 0:07:59 | 0:08:02
# I am a square | 0:08:04 | 0:08:06
# I am a rectangle | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
# I am a shape | 0:08:18 | 0:08:20
# I am a shape | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
# I am a shape | 0:08:28 | 0:08:30
# I am a shape | 0:08:33 | 0:08:35
# I am a triangle. | 0:08:41 | 0:08:43
What's hiding in the triangles? | 0:08:45 | 0:08:48
Can you guess? | 0:08:51 | 0:08:52
What could it be? | 0:08:55 | 0:08:57
It's a beetle. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:04
Well done, Shapes. It's time to get back in the Marvellous Maker Case. | 0:09:04 | 0:09:09
-Waaay! -Aaagh! | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
-Waaah! -Hee hee hee! | 0:09:14 | 0:09:17
Wow, I love travelling the world. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:22
You get to see such incredible sights. | 0:09:22 | 0:09:25
PHONE RINGS | 0:09:25 | 0:09:26
Excuse me. That's the Makerphone. | 0:09:26 | 0:09:29
Oh, it's Tocky. Hello. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:31
It's Minute Make time in Australia. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:35
Oh, thank you very much. I'm on my way. | 0:09:35 | 0:09:38
Here we go. | 0:09:38 | 0:09:40
It's Minute Make time! | 0:09:58 | 0:10:00
CHEERING | 0:10:00 | 0:10:02
Oh, dear me. Phew! | 0:10:02 | 0:10:04
Wait a minute! | 0:10:04 | 0:10:05
This will come in very handy today, | 0:10:05 | 0:10:08
because we're going to make one of these. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:11
MOUSE SQUEAKS | 0:10:11 | 0:10:12
It's a creature cup and this one's a mouse. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:16
Now, we can make one of those by using these things - | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
a paper cup... | 0:10:20 | 0:10:21
..a glue stick... | 0:10:23 | 0:10:24
some scissors... | 0:10:24 | 0:10:26
a small pom-pom... | 0:10:26 | 0:10:27
a pen... | 0:10:27 | 0:10:28
some stickers... | 0:10:28 | 0:10:30
and some fun foam shapes. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:32
Now, my friends, do you think it's possible | 0:10:32 | 0:10:35
to make this creature cup in just one minute? | 0:10:35 | 0:10:39
ALL: No, Mister Maker. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:41
Oh, really? Well, I think I can. | 0:10:41 | 0:10:44
I will have to be very quick but don't worry, | 0:10:44 | 0:10:47
I'll remind you how to do it at the end. Are you ready? | 0:10:47 | 0:10:51
ALL: Yes! | 0:10:51 | 0:10:52
Are you ready? | 0:10:52 | 0:10:54
Brilliant. Let's make it in a minute. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:58
-ALL: Three, two, one. -Start the clock! | 0:10:58 | 0:11:01
Let's get our fun foam shapes. | 0:11:01 | 0:11:03
We'll use our scissors first | 0:11:03 | 0:11:05
and we'll cut out a teardrop shape very carefully. | 0:11:05 | 0:11:08
This will be the head of the mouse. | 0:11:08 | 0:11:11
We need to be careful because scissors are...? | 0:11:11 | 0:11:14
ALL: Sharp. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:15
Fold this piece together and cut out a sausage shape. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:19
These will be the arms of the mouse. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:22
Now we're going to put some pink stickers on the circles for ears. | 0:11:22 | 0:11:26
Let's use the white stickers. | 0:11:26 | 0:11:29
There we go. | 0:11:29 | 0:11:30
Let's get a pen | 0:11:30 | 0:11:31
and we can draw some dots in the middle of the stickers for eyes. | 0:11:31 | 0:11:35
That's it. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:36
Let's put some glue on the front there, and some glue on our ears. | 0:11:36 | 0:11:42
And let's stick on our head. | 0:11:42 | 0:11:44
We need a little pom-pom for the mouse's nose | 0:11:44 | 0:11:48
and now we need our cup and put lots of glue on the front | 0:11:48 | 0:11:52
and some glue on the back. | 0:11:52 | 0:11:54
And then we can stick everything together. | 0:11:54 | 0:11:57
And we have made a creature cup. | 0:11:57 | 0:12:00
CHEERING | 0:12:00 | 0:12:01
BELL RINGS | 0:12:01 | 0:12:02
Phew! Just in time. | 0:12:02 | 0:12:04
If you've got more than a minute, | 0:12:04 | 0:12:06
you could try these other ideas, too. | 0:12:06 | 0:12:09
How about this cute dog with fun foam paws and a pink paper tongue? | 0:12:09 | 0:12:14
Woof! Woof! Woof! | 0:12:14 | 0:12:16
Or you could try a terrific tiger | 0:12:16 | 0:12:18
with ferocious fangs and a wrapping paper body. | 0:12:18 | 0:12:21
Rarrgh! | 0:12:21 | 0:12:23
Or how about this spotty ladybird | 0:12:23 | 0:12:25
with pipe cleaner antennae and paper wings. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:28
LADYBIRD BUZZES | 0:12:28 | 0:12:30
Creature cups made in just one minute. Why don't you try it? | 0:12:30 | 0:12:34
Here's a reminder of how to do it. | 0:12:34 | 0:12:37
Let's go back to the beginning and take another look. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:41
Take a piece of fun foam and cut out a head | 0:12:41 | 0:12:44
and some arms. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:46
Add pink stickers to foam circles for ears. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:50
And white stickers to the head for eyes. | 0:12:50 | 0:12:53
Use a black pen to add pupils. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:56
Stick the ears to the head and glue on a pom-pom for a nose. | 0:12:56 | 0:13:01
Stick the arms and the head to the cup. | 0:13:01 | 0:13:05
And your creature cup is finished. | 0:13:06 | 0:13:09
Why don't you try and make it in just one minute? | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
It's time for me to go, | 0:13:14 | 0:13:16
but thank you so much for being part of another marvellous Minute Make. | 0:13:16 | 0:13:20
ALL: Bye! | 0:13:20 | 0:13:22
Oh, what's this? | 0:13:26 | 0:13:28
It's a Mini Maker postcard. | 0:13:29 | 0:13:32
Let's see what we've been sent today. | 0:13:32 | 0:13:35
Hello, Mister Maker, my name's Evie and I've made a butterfly for you. | 0:13:35 | 0:13:40
First I cut out the butterfly. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:43
I decorated it with sequins and glitter. | 0:13:43 | 0:13:46
I hope you like it, Mister Maker. | 0:13:46 | 0:13:48
Hello, Mister Maker, my name's Josh and I've made a planet for you. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:53
I stuck some paper on with glue and then I painted it blue | 0:13:53 | 0:13:56
and then I stuck pom-poms on. | 0:13:56 | 0:13:59
I hope you like my planet, Mister Maker. | 0:13:59 | 0:14:01
Oh, what lovely ideas. Why don't you try some of those today? | 0:14:01 | 0:14:06
PHONE RINGS | 0:14:06 | 0:14:07
Oh, the Makerphone's ringing. Excuse me. | 0:14:07 | 0:14:11
Oh, some Mini Makers are calling. | 0:14:11 | 0:14:14
Hi, Mister Maker. My name is Jake. | 0:14:15 | 0:14:18
I come from South Africa and these are my friends. | 0:14:18 | 0:14:22
Can you help us make a picture? | 0:14:22 | 0:14:24
What a lovely idea! | 0:14:24 | 0:14:26
I'll see you for a high-five in five, four... | 0:14:26 | 0:14:30
CHILDREN: ..three, two, one... | 0:14:33 | 0:14:38
We're in South Africa. | 0:14:38 | 0:14:40
I made it! I told you I would. | 0:14:40 | 0:14:43
High-five! | 0:14:43 | 0:14:45
Now, what picture would you like to make? | 0:14:46 | 0:14:49
A big sand castle. | 0:14:49 | 0:14:51
Sand castles? That's a great idea. What do you make a sand castle with? | 0:14:51 | 0:14:55
-A spade. -And a bucket. | 0:14:55 | 0:14:57
A bucket and a spade. What's the weather going to be like, then? | 0:14:57 | 0:15:01
-ALL: Sunny! -Sunny? | 0:15:01 | 0:15:03
-I think we're ready, aren't we? -ALL: Yes. | 0:15:03 | 0:15:06
Let's make it together. | 0:15:06 | 0:15:08
Here's the sand... | 0:15:10 | 0:15:12
..the sand castles... | 0:15:15 | 0:15:17
..and here are the starfish. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:23
And we'll need a nice blue background. | 0:15:25 | 0:15:28
We're having great fun building our big beach picture. | 0:15:36 | 0:15:40
And it's just given me an idea. | 0:15:40 | 0:15:43
Why don't you make something, too? | 0:15:43 | 0:15:46
Try making this fantastic sand castle | 0:15:46 | 0:15:50
that will last for ever. | 0:15:50 | 0:15:52
You will need two long and two short cardboard tubes... | 0:15:52 | 0:15:56
a large and smaller cardboard box... | 0:15:56 | 0:15:59
a paper plate and scissors... | 0:15:59 | 0:16:02
glue... | 0:16:02 | 0:16:03
play sand and a brush... | 0:16:03 | 0:16:05
sticky tape, straws and paper triangles. | 0:16:05 | 0:16:09
First, squeeze the tubes flat | 0:16:11 | 0:16:14
and carefully cut a window shape in all of them. | 0:16:14 | 0:16:19
Now, squeeze your tubes back to their original shape like this. | 0:16:19 | 0:16:24
Next, carefully make small cuts all the way around the top of each tube. | 0:16:24 | 0:16:31
Now fold and tear off | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
every other piece of card at the top of the tubes | 0:16:33 | 0:16:36
until they all look like this. | 0:16:36 | 0:16:39
This can be a bit fiddly, so ask an adult to help you. | 0:16:41 | 0:16:45
Next, take your small box | 0:16:45 | 0:16:48
and make sure the flaps have been cut off at one end. | 0:16:48 | 0:16:51
Then carefully cut two slots in the middle | 0:16:51 | 0:16:55
and tear them off to make a door. | 0:16:55 | 0:16:57
Now take a paper plate and glue down your boxes | 0:17:00 | 0:17:04
with the bigger one at the back and the smaller one at the front. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:09
Glue the tubes around the boxes like this. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:14
Now ask an adult to help you find some play sand. | 0:17:16 | 0:17:19
Then make a mixture that's half gloopy PVA glue and half sand. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:24
Give it a stir. | 0:17:25 | 0:17:27
Then take a brush to paint it all over the castle and the plate. | 0:17:28 | 0:17:34
Now, this can be a bit messy, | 0:17:34 | 0:17:36
so it's a good idea to put down some old paper or a tray. | 0:17:36 | 0:17:40
Then leave it to dry. | 0:17:40 | 0:17:41
To finish it off, | 0:17:41 | 0:17:42
stick paper triangles onto straws to make flags, | 0:17:42 | 0:17:46
then tape them inside the tubes. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:49
Your everlasting sand castle is finished and ready to play with. | 0:17:51 | 0:17:56
What a nice idea. Why don't you try it? | 0:17:58 | 0:18:02
But right now, let's see what our big beach is looking like. | 0:18:02 | 0:18:06
Nearly finished. | 0:18:14 | 0:18:16
Oh, well done, everyone. | 0:18:16 | 0:18:17
