Hello. It's making time. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
Get ready for an arty adventure around the world! | 0:00:45 | 0:00:50
Today, we travel to South Africa, to find out how to make | 0:00:50 | 0:00:55
a frightening finger pen in just one minute. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:59
We build a super snowy scene | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
and showed you how to create a little log cabin. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
First, we're off to Australia, in search of an underwater arty idea. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:10
Wow! We're in Australia. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
Hey, we're down by the sea and look! | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
There's an aquarium. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
What a fantastic place to get some arty ideas. Ha-ha! | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
Wow! Look at all these fish! | 0:01:27 | 0:01:31
They're so colourful and all different shapes and sizes. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:36
Look at that shark. There's something fishy going on here. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:41
I've just had an idea. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Let's try something. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
Use salt to make this amazing salty sea picture. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:51
Let's make it! | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
Oh, lovely. We'll need a mini maker to help us. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
Let's see if there's one nearby. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
PHONE BEEPS | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
Hello, mini makers. Now, who's going to help me today? | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
-Hello, Mister Maker. My name is Madeline. -Hello, Madeline. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:12
-I can help you! -Fantastic! | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
Thanks everyone. We'll see you soon. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:19
Great! Madeline is on her way to help us make the picture. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:24
But first, we need somewhere to make it. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
Wonderful! The Marvellous Maker Case | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
has become a marvellous making table. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
Now we're ready to make our picture, by using these arty things. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
Some sheets of white paper... | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
.. some water... | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
..a washing-up sponge and a bowl... | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
..some food colouring... | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
..some brushes and some pens... | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
..some salt... | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
..some scissors and a glue stick. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
And last, but not least, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
we also need a tennis racket. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
A tennis racket? We don't need a tennis racket. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
Scrappz. How did you get here? | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
We don't need one of these, but we do need some stickers, please. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:40
Take the racket back. Go on, that's it. Be careful! That's it. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:45
Oh, brilliant. Well done, Scrappz. Thank you! | 0:03:45 | 0:03:50
We've got some stickers! | 0:03:52 | 0:03:54
Now we've got everything we need. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:57
But it feels like something's missing. Mmmm. | 0:03:57 | 0:04:01
-Do you know what it is? -I'm here, Mister Maker! -Madeline! Of course. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:06
It's you! Thank you very much for coming. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
You're just in time, because we're going to make our picture, | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
like this one here. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
It is a salty sea picture! | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
Now this can get a little bit messy, | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
so it's a good idea to put down some newspaper or some old paper | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
first and, Madeline, I think we should put on some aprons. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:26
-Does that sound like a good idea? -Yes. -OK, then, lead the way. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:30
-Look at us. Now, Madeline, are you ready? -Yes. -Brilliant. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:37
Are you ready? | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
Fantastic. Let's get making. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
The first thing we're going to do is turn our plain white paper | 0:04:41 | 0:04:45
into some patterned paper. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
Let's use a sponge and some water for this. That's it, Madeline. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:52
Now, make the paper nice and wet. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
And whilst it's still wet, we are going to need some of this stuff. | 0:04:56 | 0:05:00
It is food colouring. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:02
Now you can buy food colouring from a food shop, but you might | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
have some at home already, so ask a grown-up to help you. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
First, we're going to use blue food colouring | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
and spread it onto the paper. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:14
Now, whilst everything is still wet, it's time for our special | 0:05:18 | 0:05:22
ingredient - salt. Here it is. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
And when we sprinkle the salt over the wet food colouring, | 0:05:25 | 0:05:30
it leaves an amazing pattern behind. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
Now you can sprinkle this ordinary salt | 0:05:33 | 0:05:37
or you could even use this. Ha-ha! | 0:05:37 | 0:05:41
Rock salt. Ha-ha! Let's try this, Madeline. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:47
Sprinkle rock salt wherever you like. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
It comes in much bigger pieces and it leaves bigger marks | 0:05:51 | 0:05:54
on the paper. When you've finished sprinkling, | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58
leave it to dry. | 0:05:58 | 0:05:59
We've made lots of different colours of paper, like this, | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
and brushed off all the dried salt. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:05
We're ready to start drawing now, Madeline. And what shall we draw? | 0:06:05 | 0:06:10
-Seaweed and some fish. -Seaweed and some fish. That's a great idea. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:15
I tell you what, why don't you take this pink paper | 0:06:15 | 0:06:19
and let's get drawing! | 0:06:19 | 0:06:21
When you've finished drawing, carefully cut everything out. | 0:06:24 | 0:06:29
Remember to keep one piece for your background. | 0:06:29 | 0:06:32
Now we can arrange all of the pieces in our picture. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
And when you're happy with your picture, glue everything down. | 0:06:38 | 0:06:43
We've finished. We've even added some stickers for eyes and mouths. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:49
A brilliant salty sea picture! | 0:06:49 | 0:06:52
And if you enjoyed that, how about trying these ideas, too? | 0:06:52 | 0:06:55
A salty octopus, with orange fish. | 0:06:55 | 0:07:00
Or you could even try a wonderful whale in a salty sunset. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:05
Why don't you try one of those pictures today? | 0:07:05 | 0:07:08
Well, thank you so much for your help, Madeline. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
BOTH: We made it! | 0:07:10 | 0:07:12
High-five! What a fantastic picture! | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
What a brilliant salty effect! Well done, Madeline. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:20
Oh! It is wonderful travelling the world. There's so much to see. | 0:07:22 | 0:07:27
Oh, look! That's Sydney's famous Opera House. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:31
SUITCASE BOINGS | 0:07:31 | 0:07:32
What's that noise coming from the Marvellous Maker Case? | 0:07:32 | 0:07:37
Can you hear that? | 0:07:37 | 0:07:39
DOOR BOINGS | 0:07:39 | 0:07:41
It's the shapes! They're off on their journey around the world. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:46
# I am a shape (la-la-la) | 0:07:50 | 0:07:51
# I am a circle | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
# I am a triangle | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
# I am a square | 0:08:02 | 0:08:06
# I am a rectangle | 0:08:08 | 0:08:11
# I am a shape | 0:08:17 | 0:08:20
# I am a shape | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
# I am a shape | 0:08:27 | 0:08:30
# I am a shape | 0:08:32 | 0:08:34
# I am a circle. # | 0:08:40 | 0:08:43
What's hiding in the circles? | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
Can you see? | 0:08:50 | 0:08:52
Any ideas, yet? | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
It's two koalas! | 0:09:00 | 0:09:03
Well done, shapes. It's time to get back in the Marvellous Maker Case. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:09
ALL: Wheeee! | 0:09:10 | 0:09:13
Ohh! It's so much fun travelling the world. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:20
You never know when you're going to meet new friends. Hello, you guys. | 0:09:20 | 0:09:24
PHONE RINGS | 0:09:24 | 0:09:26
The Maker Phone's ringing. | 0:09:26 | 0:09:29
Oh! It's Tocky! | 0:09:29 | 0:09:32
-Warrr! It's minute-make time in South Africa. -Thanks, Tocky. | 0:09:32 | 0:09:39
It's minute-make time! | 0:09:57 | 0:10:00
CHEERING | 0:10:00 | 0:10:01
That's right, my friends. Today, we're going to make something | 0:10:01 | 0:10:05
that's really, really spooky. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:08
HE LAUGHS EVILY | 0:10:08 | 0:10:11
Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:13
It's this frightening finger pen. | 0:10:16 | 0:10:19
But it's not just spooky, it's really useful, as well. Watch. | 0:10:19 | 0:10:23
It's a real, working pen. | 0:10:23 | 0:10:27
Now, we can make one of these fantastic, frightening finger pens | 0:10:27 | 0:10:31
by using these arty things. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:33
We've got a pencil, a pen | 0:10:33 | 0:10:37
and a scrap of paper or card. | 0:10:37 | 0:10:40
This scrap is in the shape of a teardrop. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:44
We'll also need some green air-drying clay. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:47
Now, you can find this in an arts and craft shop. | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
Today, to save time, I'm going to order some on my Makerphone. Right. | 0:10:50 | 0:10:54
Here we go. Ooh, yes. Green air-drying clay. Right. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:58
Add to cart. Oh! | 0:10:58 | 0:11:00
That was quick. Let's have a look, see what we've got inside. | 0:11:00 | 0:11:04
How perfect! Look, everyone. It's some green air-drying clay. | 0:11:04 | 0:11:09
Now, don't worry if your air-drying clay isn't green, | 0:11:09 | 0:11:13
because you can use whatever colour you like. | 0:11:13 | 0:11:16
Now, we've got everything we need. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
But do you think it's possible to make this frightening finger pen | 0:11:19 | 0:11:23
in just one minute? | 0:11:23 | 0:11:24
ALL: Don't be silly! | 0:11:24 | 0:11:27
Me, silly?! I don't think so. | 0:11:27 | 0:11:29
But I will have to be very quick. | 0:11:29 | 0:11:32
But don't worry, I'll remind you how to do it at the end. Are you ready? | 0:11:32 | 0:11:36
ALL: Yes! | 0:11:36 | 0:11:38
Brilliant. Are YOU ready? | 0:11:38 | 0:11:40
Fantastic. Let's make it, in a minute. | 0:11:40 | 0:11:43
ALL: Three...two...one! | 0:11:43 | 0:11:45
Start the clock. The first thing to do is get our air-drying clay | 0:11:45 | 0:11:50
and squish the pen into it, like this, | 0:11:50 | 0:11:52
making sure that we leave the nib outside, like that. | 0:11:52 | 0:11:56
Then we're going to squeeze the clay all around it, like this, | 0:11:56 | 0:12:01
into the shape of a very spooky finger, like that. | 0:12:01 | 0:12:05
Round and round it goes, like this. It's very bobbly. | 0:12:05 | 0:12:09
And you can make it any shape you like | 0:12:09 | 0:12:12
and it can be really, really fun if you use a pencil like this | 0:12:12 | 0:12:18
to make some wiggly lines like this | 0:12:18 | 0:12:21
and some wiggly lines there. Here we go, in the middle. | 0:12:21 | 0:12:25
And some wiggly lines at the back like that. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:28
You can even make some dots, as well. | 0:12:28 | 0:12:31
And if you get a ball of air-drying clay, | 0:12:31 | 0:12:35
you can roll it like this to make a wart to go on your finger, as well. | 0:12:35 | 0:12:40
Just squidge that on. Last but not least, you stick on | 0:12:40 | 0:12:44
your scrap of paper and you've made a frightening finger pen. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:49
I did it just in time, but if you've got more than a minute, | 0:12:49 | 0:12:53
you could leave your frightening finger pen to dry and paint it. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:58
You could even try these other ideas, too. | 0:12:58 | 0:13:01
How about this gorgeous, glamorous finger with a plastic jewel ring | 0:13:01 | 0:13:06
and a bright red nail? | 0:13:06 | 0:13:08
Or you could even make a weird werewolf finger, | 0:13:08 | 0:13:12
with a nasty brown nail and fun fur. | 0:13:12 | 0:13:14
Why don't you try and make it in a minute? | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
Here's a reminder of how to do it. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:19
Let's go back to the beginning and take another look. | 0:13:19 | 0:13:23
Cover a pen with air- drying clay, | 0:13:23 | 0:13:25
making sure you don't cover the nib end. | 0:13:25 | 0:13:28
Make wiggly lines with a pencil. | 0:13:28 | 0:13:31
Add a wart, with a small lump of clay. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:35
Stick on a scrap of paper, for a nail, | 0:13:35 | 0:13:38
and your frightening finger pen is finished. | 0:13:38 | 0:13:41
Why don't YOU try and make it in a minute? | 0:13:44 | 0:13:47
Thank you so much, my friends, | 0:13:47 | 0:13:49
for being part of another marvellous minute-make. | 0:13:49 | 0:13:53
ALL: Bye! | 0:13:53 | 0:13:55
What's this?! It's a Mini Maker postcard. | 0:14:03 | 0:14:08
Let's see what we've been sent today. | 0:14:09 | 0:14:12

It's a sun, made out of pipe cleaners, | 0:14:35 | 0:14:37
and a rainbow, made out of pipe cleaners, | 0:14:37 | 0:14:40
and a bird, made out of feathers. Do you like my picture, Mr Maker? | 0:14:40 | 0:14:45
What fantastic ideas. Why don't you try one of them at home? | 0:14:45 | 0:14:48
-TELEPHONE RINGS -Oh. Excuse me. | 0:14:48 | 0:14:51
The Makerphone's ringing. | 0:14:51 | 0:14:54
Ah, some Mini Makers are calling. | 0:14:54 | 0:14:57
Hello, Mr Maker. I'm Elysee from the UK and these are my friends. | 0:14:57 | 0:15:02
Hello, Mini Makers. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:04
-Please can you help us make a picture? -I'd love to. | 0:15:04 | 0:15:08
I'll be with you for a high-five in five... | 0:15:08 | 0:15:11
four... | 0:15:11 | 0:15:13
..three... | 0:15:14 | 0:15:17
..two... | 0:15:17 | 0:15:19
one. | 0:15:19 | 0:15:21 | |
We're in the UK. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:22
I made it! I told you I would, Mini Makers. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:27
Let's get some high-fives. Excellent. Nice. | 0:15:27 | 0:15:30
What picture would you like to make? | 0:15:30 | 0:15:33
ALL: Snow! | 0:15:33 | 0:15:35
A snowy picture. That sounds like a great idea. | 0:15:35 | 0:15:38
-What's going to be in our snowy picture? -Trees with snow on. | 0:15:38 | 0:15:42
-Is it going to be quite cold in our picture? -Yes. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:45
Brrrrr. Very cold. And what else shall we have in our picture? | 0:15:45 | 0:15:50
-A house with snow on. -Lovely. -A reindeer. -A reindeer? Brilliant. | 0:15:50 | 0:15:55
-I think we're ready, aren't we? -ALL: Yes! | 0:15:55 | 0:15:58
Let's make it together. | 0:15:58 | 0:16:00
These are the mountains. | 0:16:00 | 0:16:04
And this is the snow. | 0:16:05 | 0:16:07
This is the log cabin. | 0:16:09 | 0:16:11
We're making the logs. | 0:16:11 | 0:16:14
And we need a nice blue sky. | 0:16:14 | 0:16:16
We're having great fun making our big picture | 0:16:21 | 0:16:24
and that's just given me an idea. | 0:16:24 | 0:16:27
Why don't you make something, too? | 0:16:27 | 0:16:29
Try making your own little log cabin. It's great fun to make. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:34
You will need corrugated card and a pen, | 0:16:34 | 0:16:39
a clean, empty juice carton, | 0:16:39 | 0:16:41
coloured card and a glue stick, | 0:16:41 | 0:16:43
a plastic or paper plate and stickers | 0:16:43 | 0:16:46
and some scissors. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:47
First, find some corrugated card, with grooves running across it. | 0:16:48 | 0:16:54
Turn the card over and place the closed carton onto the card. | 0:16:54 | 0:17:00
Draw around the pointy side first | 0:17:00 | 0:17:03
and, then, the other side, like this. | 0:17:03 | 0:17:06
Do this again underneath, so that you have two of each shape | 0:17:06 | 0:17:10
and carefully cut them out. | 0:17:10 | 0:17:14
Now, glue the shapes on to the carton, like this. | 0:17:14 | 0:17:18
Stick on a card door and a window | 0:17:23 | 0:17:27
and a folded piece of card, for a roof. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:31
Next, glue the log cabin onto an upside-down plate. | 0:17:33 | 0:17:38
Then decorate everything with coloured stickers, however you like. | 0:17:38 | 0:17:43
Your log cabin is finished and ready to play with. | 0:17:44 | 0:17:50
What a great idea. Why don't you try it? | 0:17:50 | 0:17:53
But right now, look, the Mini Makers are building a house. | 0:17:53 | 0:17:59
Very good. Good work. | 0:17:59 | 0:18:01
Well done. Good chimney. | 0:18:09 | 0:18:13
Well done, everyone. | 0:18:14 | 0:18:16
ALL: We made it together! Yay! | 0:18:16 | 0:18:21
what a brilliant snowy picture. | 0:18:26 | 0:18:28
Brrrrrr. It looks pretty chilly. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:32
Wow. What an exciting arty adventure we've had today. | 0:18:32 | 0:18:37
Remember, wherever you are in the world, keep making. | 0:18:37 | 0:18:40
TELEPHONE RINGS | 0:18:40 | 0:18:42
Excuse me. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:43
Oh, it's Tocky. | 0:18:43 | 0:18:45
Time to go. Time to go. | 0:18:45 | 0:18:48
Oh, thanks, Tocky. I'll be home soon. | 0:18:48 | 0:18:51
Well, that's it for now. | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
