Hee-hee-hee-hee! | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
Hello! It's making time! | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
Get ready for an arty adventure around the world! | 0:00:45 | 0:00:50
Today we go to South Africa | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
to make a brilliant, colourful chameleon picture | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
and show you how to make your very own cute chameleon. | 0:00:56 | 0:01:00
We head to Australia to make a junk camera in just one minute. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
But first, we're off to Hong Kong to go crazy with cardboard tubes. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:09
Wo-ho-ho! Oh, look where we are! | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
We're in Hong Kong! And we're down at the harbour. How exciting! | 0:01:16 | 0:01:20
Oh, look. There are some boats over there. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
SHIP'S HORN | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
Can't quite see them, though. I think I'll use my binoculars. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
Yep, here we go. Ha-ha! Right. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
Oh, I can't see anything. What's going on? | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
Wait a minute, these aren't binoculars. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
This is just two cardboard tubes. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
These won't be any use for seeing the boats. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
But they might be useful for something else. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
I've just had an idea! | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
Let's try something! | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
Put cardboard tubes to good use by making a marvellous | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
multicoloured tube and tissue picture. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Let's make it! | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
Now, we're going to need a Mini Maker to help. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Let's see if there's one nearby. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
MOBILE PHONE BEEPS | 0:02:07 | 0:02:08
Hello, Mini Makers. Now, who's going to help me today? | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
Hi, Mr Maker, I'm Claudia! | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
Hello, Claudia! | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
-I can help you. -Oh, that's good news. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
Everyone else, thank you very much. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
Ha-ha! Oh, great. Claudia is on her way to help us make our picture. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:28
But first, we'll need somewhere to make it! | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
Oh, wonderful. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
The marvellous Maker Case has become a marvellous Making Table. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:43
Now, we just need some arty things to make our picture. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
We'll need some paper or card. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
Some paint. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
Some tissue paper. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
Some cardboard tubes. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Some scissors. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
A birthday card? We don't need this! | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
Scrappz, how did you get here? | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
HE SQUEAKS | 0:03:23 | 0:03:24
We don't need this at the moment. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
Can you find me a glue stick, please? Go on, off you go. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:32
Well done, Scrappz, lovely! Just what we need. Bye! | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
We've got a glue stick. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
Excellent. We've got everything we need. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:45
Although, it does feel like something's missing. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:50
Do you know what it is? Erm... | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
It could be, oh, no... | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
I'm here, Mister Maker. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
Of course. Claudia. It's you. Oh, my friend, it's lovely to see you. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:03
You're just in time to help me make our picture! | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
It's a marvellous multicoloured tube and tissue picture. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:11
-So, Claudia, are you ready? -Yes! | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
Are YOU ready? | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
Fantastic! | 0:04:16 | 0:04:17
Let's get making! | 0:04:17 | 0:04:18
Now, this can get very messy. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
It's a good idea, for this make, | 0:04:21 | 0:04:23
to put down some old paper or some newspaper first. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:27
-And actually, I think we should put an apron on. Is that OK? -Yes. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
All right, then, well, follow me. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
We look great, don't we? Very nice! | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
And we're ready to start making! | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
First of all, we need to find some cardboard tubes. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
Can you find one, there, Claudia? | 0:04:43 | 0:04:45
Lovely. That's just what we need. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
And we're going to cut these cardboard tubes into smaller pieces. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:51
Can you pass me those scissors over there? Oh, well done! | 0:04:51 | 0:04:55
We need to be careful with scissors, | 0:04:55 | 0:04:57
-because they are... -Sharp! -That's right! | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
Your cardboard tube pieces can be any shape or size you like. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:05
You could even make springy shapes, like this. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:11
Carry on cutting to make lots of cardboard pieces. | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
We've even curled some to make spirals. | 0:05:14 | 0:05:19
I'm going to ask you to look after these, | 0:05:19 | 0:05:21
because it's time to arrange our pieces on to our paper or card. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
Can you help me glue them, please, Claudia? | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
Good job! | 0:05:30 | 0:05:32
Keep going until you've stuck down all of your cardboard tube pieces. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:36
Our picture is really starting to take shape. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:41
Now we need some pieces of tissue paper. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:45
And we're going to stick them onto our picture. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:48
Keep on adding pieces of tissue paper | 0:05:48 | 0:05:50
until you're happy with your design. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:53
Now, we can make our picture really colourful | 0:05:54 | 0:05:57
by adding lots and lots of lovely paint! | 0:05:57 | 0:06:00
-Claudia, which colour of paint shall we choose first? -Pink. | 0:06:00 | 0:06:04
Pass it over, my friend. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:06
Now, you can dribble the paint straight from the bottle like this. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:10
Ho-ho! | 0:06:13 | 0:06:14
It looks good if you use lots of different colours. | 0:06:16 | 0:06:19
And then leave it to dry. | 0:06:22 | 0:06:24
We've finished our magnificent | 0:06:24 | 0:06:26
multicoloured tube and tissue picture. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:30
And if you enjoyed that, why not try these other ideas, too? | 0:06:30 | 0:06:34
You could arrange the tubes in straight lines | 0:06:34 | 0:06:37
for a different effect. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:39
Or, you could even make a shiny picture | 0:06:40 | 0:06:42
using scraps of gold and silver foil. | 0:06:42 | 0:06:45
Why don't you try one of those ideas today? | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
Thank you so much for helping me, Claudia. | 0:06:50 | 0:06:52
-BOTH: -We made it! | 0:06:52 | 0:06:54
High-five! | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
What a fantastic effect! | 0:06:56 | 0:06:58
Well done, Claudia! | 0:06:58 | 0:06:59
Now, that over there, Maker Bear, is Kowloon. Yes. That's right. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
EXCITABLE HUBBUB | 0:07:04 | 0:07:07
Can you hear that noise? It's coming from the Marvellous Maker Case! | 0:07:07 | 0:07:12
Whoa! | 0:07:12 | 0:07:14 | |
It's the Shapes! They're off on their journey around the world. | 0:07:14 | 0:07:19
-Whoa! -Yeah! -Wargh! | 0:07:19 | 0:07:22
ALL: I am a shape! | 0:07:22 | 0:07:23
I am a circle. | 0:07:26 | 0:07:28
I am a triangle. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:33
I am a square. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:37
I am a rectangle. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:43
I am a shape. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:53
I am a shape. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:57
I am a shape. | 0:08:00 | 0:08:02
I am a shape. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:07
I am a square! | 0:08:13 | 0:08:15
What are the squares making today? | 0:08:18 | 0:08:20
Can you guess? | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
Any ideas yet? | 0:08:29 | 0:08:30
It's a cactus! | 0:08:34 | 0:08:36
Well done, Shapes, it's time to get back in the Marvellous Maker Case. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:42
Whoo! | 0:08:44 | 0:08:45 | |
Whoa! | 0:08:45 | 0:08:48 | |
EXPLOSION | 0:08:48 | 0:08:50
Oh, I love it here in Hong Kong. I've had such a fantastic time. | 0:08:50 | 0:08:55
MOBILE PHONE BEEPS | 0:08:55 | 0:08:57
Ooh. The Maker Phone's ringing. Excuse me. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:00
Oh, it's Tocky. | 0:09:00 | 0:09:02
-Argh! -It's Minute Make time. In Australia! | 0:09:02 | 0:09:06
Oh, thanks, Tocky, I'm on my way! | 0:09:06 | 0:09:09
Oh-ho, here we go! | 0:09:09 | 0:09:10
It's Minute Make time, everyone! | 0:09:30 | 0:09:32
CHEERING | 0:09:32 | 0:09:34
Smile, everybody! | 0:09:34 | 0:09:37
SHUTTER CLICKS | 0:09:37 | 0:09:38
Oh, yeah! | 0:09:38 | 0:09:40
Oh, that's a nice photo! | 0:09:40 | 0:09:42
Ooh! | 0:09:42 | 0:09:44 | |
SAD TROMBONE | 0:09:44 | 0:09:45
Oh, dear! | 0:09:45 | 0:09:47
Now, today, Mini Makers, we're going to make this! | 0:09:47 | 0:09:51
It's a junk camera. | 0:09:51 | 0:09:54
It's only a pretend camera, but it's lots of fun, | 0:09:54 | 0:09:57
and we can make it by using these things. | 0:09:57 | 0:10:01
We've got some paper, a small box, | 0:10:01 | 0:10:04
a glue stick, a foil pie case, | 0:10:04 | 0:10:07
some plastic lids, a piece of ribbon and stickers, and some sticky tape. | 0:10:07 | 0:10:13
Now, do you think it's possible | 0:10:13 | 0:10:15
to make this junk camera in just one minute? | 0:10:15 | 0:10:19
-CHILDREN: -DON'T BE SILLY! | 0:10:19 | 0:10:22
Me, silly?! I don't think so! | 0:10:22 | 0:10:25
Now, I'm going to have to be very quick, but don't worry. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:29
I'll remind you how to do it at the end. | 0:10:29 | 0:10:31
-Are you ready? -YES! | 0:10:31 | 0:10:34
Are YOU ready? | 0:10:34 | 0:10:36
Fantastic! Let's make it in a minute. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:39
Three, two, one... | 0:10:39 | 0:10:41
Start the clock! The first thing | 0:10:41 | 0:10:43
we need to do is get our box, and wrap it | 0:10:43 | 0:10:45
in the paper, like this. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:47
Fix it in place with sticky tape. | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
Then turn it over. | 0:10:50 | 0:10:51
Now, let's get our stickers, | 0:10:51 | 0:10:53
and we're going to put our stickers | 0:10:53 | 0:10:55
on the front here, to make the buttons. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:58
And if you haven't got stickers, don't worry - | 0:10:58 | 0:11:00
you can use some felt-tip pens | 0:11:00 | 0:11:02
and draw on the buttons. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:04
Let's have another button there. | 0:11:04 | 0:11:06
That looks nice. | 0:11:06 | 0:11:07
Now, let's get our foil case | 0:11:07 | 0:11:09
and some glue. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:10
And we're going to put some glue | 0:11:10 | 0:11:12
on the back there, like that. | 0:11:12 | 0:11:13
And then stick it on to the front | 0:11:13 | 0:11:15
of the camera. Let's get this lid here. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:18
This is going to be the lens. | 0:11:18 | 0:11:20
Let's stick it on. There we go. | 0:11:20 | 0:11:22
Now, if we put it up, | 0:11:22 | 0:11:23
it's starting to take shape. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:25
Let's get some ribbon | 0:11:25 | 0:11:26
and a bit of sticky tape on the side | 0:11:26 | 0:11:28
and stick this to the side. | 0:11:28 | 0:11:30
That's going to look nice. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:32
And last but not least, | 0:11:32 | 0:11:33
get this last lid, put some glue on. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:36
That'll be the button, | 0:11:36 | 0:11:37
and you can take a picture! | 0:11:37 | 0:11:39
-CHILDREN: -Yeah! | 0:11:39 | 0:11:41
I did it! Just in time. But if you've got more than a minute, | 0:11:42 | 0:11:46
you could try these other ideas, too. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:49
How about this pink camera | 0:11:49 | 0:11:51
with a paper cup lens and glittery, sticky buttons? | 0:11:51 | 0:11:55
Or you could make a yellow camera using two boxes | 0:11:55 | 0:11:59
and fun foam details. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:01
Or, what about this really big camera, | 0:12:02 | 0:12:05
with a cardboard tube lens and lots of plastic bottle tops? | 0:12:05 | 0:12:09
A junk camera, made in just a minute. Why don't you try it? | 0:12:09 | 0:12:13
Here's a reminder of how to do it. | 0:12:13 | 0:12:16
Let's go back to the beginning and take another look. | 0:12:16 | 0:12:19
Tape a strip of paper around a small box. | 0:12:19 | 0:12:23
Add stickers for buttons | 0:12:23 | 0:12:25
and a foil pie case and a plastic lid for a lens. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:29
Stick a loop of ribbon on the side | 0:12:30 | 0:12:33
and another plastic lid on top for a button. | 0:12:33 | 0:12:37
Your junk camera is finished and ready to play with. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:40
TAPE SPOOLING BACK | 0:12:40 | 0:12:42
Why don't you try and make it in a minute? | 0:12:42 | 0:12:45
Thanks for being part of another marvellous Minute Make! | 0:12:45 | 0:12:49
-CHILDREN: -HURRAY! | 0:12:49 | 0:12:52
Ooh, what's this? | 0:12:56 | 0:12:58
It's a Mini Maker postcard! Let's see what we've been sent today. | 0:12:59 | 0:13:03
Hello Mr Maker, I'm Ben, and I made a racing car. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:09
First, I got lots of pieces of wood, and I glued it all together. | 0:13:09 | 0:13:14
I painted it out of blue paint. | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
I used some stickers to make the person. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:22
My car goes vroom, vroom, vroom! I hope you like it. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:26
Hello, Mr Maker. I made a picture for you. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
I drew lots of butterflies and I coloured it with felt tips. | 0:13:30 | 0:13:34
I used felt tip and crayon and pencil. | 0:13:34 | 0:13:38
And I hope you like my picture. | 0:13:38 | 0:13:41
Oh, what lovely ideas. Why don't you try some of those today? | 0:13:41 | 0:13:45
PHONE BLEEPS | 0:13:45 | 0:13:47
Ooh! The Maker Phone's ringing! Excuse me. | 0:13:47 | 0:13:51
Ah, the Mini Makers are calling! | 0:13:51 | 0:13:54
Hello, Mr Maker, my name is Samuel, I'm from South Africa, | 0:13:54 | 0:13:57
-and these are my friends. -Will you help us make a picture? | 0:13:57 | 0:14:01
What a lovely idea! I'll see you for a high-five in five, four... | 0:14:01 | 0:14:08
-CHILDREN: -Three! | 0:14:09 | 0:14:11
Two! | 0:14:12 | 0:14:14 | |
One! | 0:14:14 | 0:14:15 | |
We're in South Africa. | 0:14:15 | 0:14:17
I made it! I told you I would. | 0:14:17 | 0:14:20
Let's get some high-fives. | 0:14:20 | 0:14:22
-What picture would you like to make today? -A chameleon. | 0:14:24 | 0:14:27
A chameleon picture. Great idea. | 0:14:27 | 0:14:29
What does a chameleon look like? | 0:14:29 | 0:14:32
He's got a long, curly tail. | 0:14:32 | 0:14:34
Yes, a very long tail. | 0:14:34 | 0:14:36
He's got a long tongue. | 0:14:36 | 0:14:38
A long tongue, like this! | 0:14:38 | 0:14:39
Now, chameleons are very clever. | 0:14:42 | 0:14:44

This is its body. | 0:15:12 | 0:15:15
And we'll need a nice colourful background. | 0:15:16 | 0:15:20
That's it, let's put our chameleon up. | 0:15:24 | 0:15:26
That's it. | 0:15:28 | 0:15:29
We're having great fun making our big picture, | 0:15:29 | 0:15:33
and that's just given me an idea. Why don't you make something too? | 0:15:33 | 0:15:37
Try making your own little cute and colourful chameleon, | 0:15:37 | 0:15:42
it's great fun to play with. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:44
You will need... | 0:15:44 | 0:15:45
Sticky tape and scissors, kitchen foil and bubble wrap, | 0:15:45 | 0:15:50
paint and paintbrushes, glue and some stickers, coloured paper, | 0:15:50 | 0:15:55
a pen, and a pipe cleaner. | 0:15:55 | 0:15:58
First make a ball shaped from some kitchen foil | 0:15:58 | 0:16:02
for the chameleon's head. | 0:16:02 | 0:16:04
Then shape some foil into an arch for the body. | 0:16:06 | 0:16:11
And mould some more foil into a sausage shape for the tail. | 0:16:15 | 0:16:20
Next tape them all together like this. | 0:16:22 | 0:16:26
Now cover your chameleon in some bubble wrap. | 0:16:33 | 0:16:37
Tape it down as you go, making sure that it's nice and tight. | 0:16:37 | 0:16:41
When your chameleon is covered | 0:16:43 | 0:16:45
bend the tail into a curl shape like this. | 0:16:45 | 0:16:50
Add a squirt of gloopy PVA glue to each of your paint colours | 0:16:50 | 0:16:56
and give them a stir. | 0:16:56 | 0:16:58
Then paint your chameleon in different colours... | 0:16:59 | 0:17:03
..and leave it to dry. | 0:17:05 | 0:17:08
Next fold a piece of paper in half and draw two leg shapes, | 0:17:08 | 0:17:13
starting at the fold like this, then carefully cut them out. | 0:17:13 | 0:17:17
And fold them and tape them to the body. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:23
Draw black dots on stickers for eyes. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:30
And lastly, take the pipe cleaner, | 0:17:33 | 0:17:37
give it a curl at one end, and | 0:17:37 | 0:17:40
carefully push the other end through the bubble wrap to make a tongue. | 0:17:40 | 0:17:46
Your very own chameleon is finished. And ready to play with. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:50
