Hello. It's making time.

0:00:420:00:45

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world.

0:00:450:00:50

Today, we fly off to Hong Kong

0:00:520:00:54

to make a terrific tropical bird picture.

0:00:540:00:57

And we show you how to make your own brilliant bottle bird.

0:00:570:01:02

Find out how to make a clever corner creature in just one minute.

0:01:020:01:06

But first, it's time for some scrap-paper art in South Africa.

0:01:060:01:11

Whoa! Look!

0:01:120:01:15

We are in South Africa.

0:01:150:01:18

What an amazing view!

0:01:180:01:20

Let's have a look around.

0:01:200:01:23

And do some shopping.

0:01:260:01:27

I've just bought Scrappz a present. Now, it's very delicate,

0:01:320:01:36

so it's been wrapped in tissue paper to protect it.

0:01:360:01:41

Tissue paper is really useful stuff.

0:01:410:01:44

And it's just given me a great idea.

0:01:440:01:47

Let's try something.

0:01:480:01:50

Try recycling scraps of paper to make a colourful letter picture.

0:01:500:01:54

Let's make it!

0:01:540:01:56

Now, we'll need a Mini Maker to help us.

0:01:580:02:01

Let's see if there's one nearby.

0:02:010:02:04

Hello, Mini Makers. Who's going to help me today?

0:02:040:02:08

-Hi, Mister Maker. I'm Masuli.

-Hello, Masuli.

-I can help you.

0:02:080:02:13

Oh, that's good news. Everyone else, thank you very much.

0:02:130:02:17

Oh, brilliant. Masuli is on her way to help us make our picture.

0:02:170:02:22

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

0:02:220:02:26

Excellent.

0:02:300:02:32

The Marvellous Maker Case has become a marvellous making table.

0:02:320:02:36

Now we just need some arty things to help us make our picture.

0:02:360:02:40

Oh, look. Here's the present that I bought Scrappz earlier.

0:02:400:02:45

And inside here is some tissue paper.

0:02:450:02:49

But I think I might need more paper than this.

0:02:490:02:52

Great. Lots of different types of paper.

0:02:570:03:00

Some scissors and a ruler.

0:03:050:03:07

A rubber and some pencils.

0:03:110:03:14

And last, but not least, of course, we'll need a feather duster.

0:03:140:03:19

A feather duster?

0:03:200:03:23

Scrappz, what are you doing here?

0:03:230:03:27

Look, we don't need a feather duster at the moment.

0:03:270:03:31

So take that back, please. What we do need is a glue stick. Off you go.

0:03:310:03:36

Well done. That's just what we need, thank you.

0:03:360:03:40

And look here, I've bought you a present.

0:03:400:03:43

I know - it's exciting, isn't it? Here, take this.

0:03:430:03:46

This is very delicate. Be careful not to break it!

0:03:460:03:50

Scrappz! Never mind. Look what we've got here.

0:03:500:03:55

It's a glue stick.

0:03:580:03:59

Excellent. We've got everything we need.

0:04:010:04:04

Although it does feel like something is missing.

0:04:040:04:09

Do you know what it is? No? Um...

0:04:090:04:12

-Hello, Mister Maker.

-Masuli, of course, it's you, my friend.

0:04:140:04:20

It's great to see you.

0:04:200:04:21

And you're just in time to help me make our picture.

0:04:210:04:25

It's a colourful paper letter picture.

0:04:250:04:28

-So, Masuli, are you ready?

-Yes.

0:04:280:04:31

Good. Are you ready?

0:04:310:04:33

Fantastic! Let's get making.

0:04:330:04:36

The first thing we're going to do is draw a big letter

0:04:360:04:40

on a big piece of paper or card.

0:04:400:04:43

You can draw whatever letter you like.

0:04:430:04:47

But this is a big M for Mister Maker.

0:04:470:04:50

Now we need to fatten out this letter with the help of a ruler.

0:04:500:04:55

Could you pass me a ruler, please, Masuli? Thank you very much.

0:04:550:05:00

Now we use a rubber to rub out the M in the middle.

0:05:030:05:08

OK, Masuli, there.

0:05:080:05:11

We've got a fat letter M shape.

0:05:110:05:14

Now we're going to colour this in

0:05:140:05:16

using scraps of paper and tissue paper.

0:05:160:05:19

Can you choose some paper or tissue for me, please?

0:05:190:05:22

And can you put some glue on it as well?

0:05:220:05:25

Great.

0:05:270:05:29

Thank you. Let's stick it down.

0:05:290:05:32

Carry on sticking scraps all over your letter.

0:05:350:05:38

And don't worry if you go over the lines.

0:05:380:05:41

It's time now to cut out our letter M.

0:05:410:05:45

I'm going to be as neat as I can and as careful as I can

0:05:450:05:48

-because scissors are...

-..sharp.

-That's right.

0:05:480:05:52

-It's great, isn't it? M for...

-Masuli.

0:05:570:06:01

Masuli! Brilliant.

0:06:010:06:03

Now, to make our letter really stand out from the background,

0:06:030:06:07

we're going to give it a shadow.

0:06:070:06:09

So draw around your letter onto a dark piece of paper.

0:06:090:06:13

And cut this out as well.

0:06:150:06:17

We've got two Ms now.

0:06:240:06:27

We're going to glue them down onto our background paper.

0:06:270:06:31

Masuli, you can help me. Here.

0:06:310:06:34

-Finished.

-Excellent. Can I have it, please?

0:06:410:06:45

Stick this down first.

0:06:450:06:47

And stick the coloured M on top

0:06:470:06:50

and slightly to one side, like this.

0:06:500:06:52

Brilliant. We've made a perfect paper letter picture.

0:06:520:06:56

If you enjoyed that, why not try one of these other ideas too?

0:06:560:07:00

You could make as many letters as you like,

0:07:000:07:04

and even add a brightly coloured shadow.

0:07:040:07:07

Or how about trying a shape like this paper super star?

0:07:070:07:12

Why don't you try one of those ideas today?

0:07:120:07:15

Thank you so much for helping me, Masuli. We made it.

0:07:150:07:19

High-five!

0:07:190:07:20

What a brilliant colourful letter. Well done, Masuli.

0:07:200:07:24

I love travelling the world. You get to see some amazing views.

0:07:240:07:30

-CLANKING

-What's that noise?

0:07:300:07:33

It sounds like it's coming from the Marvellous Maker Case.

0:07:330:07:37

Can you hear that?

0:07:370:07:38

It's the Shapes. They're off on their journey around the world.

0:07:410:07:46

ALL: I am a shape.

0:07:480:07:50

I am a circle.

0:07:530:07:55

I am a triangle.

0:07:580:08:00

I am a square.

0:08:030:08:04

I am a rectangle.

0:08:080:08:09

I am a shape.

0:08:170:08:19

I am a shape.

0:08:220:08:23

I am a shape.

0:08:270:08:28

I am a shape.

0:08:310:08:33

I am a triangle.

0:08:390:08:42

What's hiding in the triangles?

0:08:440:08:47

Can you guess?

0:08:500:08:51

What could it be?

0:08:560:08:58

It's a water lily.

0:09:010:09:03

Well done, Shapes. It's time to get back in the Marvellous Maker Case.

0:09:040:09:10

Wow! What a beautiful country.

0:09:170:09:20

I love travelling the world.

0:09:200:09:22

-You get to see so many...

-PHONE RINGS

0:09:220:09:26

Oh, the Makerphone is ringing. Excuse me.

0:09:260:09:30

Oh, it's Tocky. Hello!

0:09:300:09:33

It's minute-make time in the UK.

0:09:330:09:36

I'm on my way.

0:09:360:09:38

Ho-ho! Here we go.

0:09:380:09:40

-It's minute-make time!

-Yeah!

0:09:580:10:02

Today, we are going to make one of these.

0:10:020:10:05

It's a corner creature.

0:10:050:10:07

A brilliant bookmark that keeps your favourite page

0:10:070:10:11

in your favourite book.

0:10:110:10:13

Now, we can make one of these by using these things.

0:10:130:10:17

Let's have a look.

0:10:170:10:18

We've got a glue stick, some scissors, some coloured cards.

0:10:180:10:23

We've got two squares and two triangles.

0:10:230:10:27

And we'll also need some googly eyes.

0:10:270:10:30

You can find googly eyes in an art and craft shop,

0:10:300:10:33

but today I'm going to save time by ordering some on my Makerphone.

0:10:330:10:37

Here we go. Googly eyes - add to cart.

0:10:370:10:42

Oh, that was quick.

0:10:430:10:45

Let's have a look inside.

0:10:450:10:47

Right, ah, yes, we've got some googly eyes.

0:10:470:10:52

Brilliant, let's put these over here. I think we're ready.

0:10:520:10:57

Now, my friends, do you think it's possible

0:10:570:11:01

to make this corner creature in just one minute?

0:11:010:11:05

No way!

0:11:050:11:07

I think I can.

0:11:070:11:08

I'll have to be very quick, but don't worry,

0:11:080:11:11

I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:11:110:11:13

-Are you ready?

-Yes.

0:11:130:11:16

Oh, right. Are YOU ready, though?

0:11:160:11:19

Brilliant. Let's make it in a minute.

0:11:190:11:22

-Three, two, one.

-Start the clock.

0:11:220:11:25

The first thing we do is get a square and our scissors

0:11:250:11:28

and very carefully cut it in half.

0:11:280:11:30

We need to be careful because scissors are...

0:11:300:11:34

..sharp!

0:11:340:11:35

That will give us two triangles.

0:11:350:11:37

We'll just have one of those now and we'll get some glue

0:11:370:11:40

and put some glue on this bottom edge here.

0:11:400:11:43

That will help us to stick on

0:11:430:11:45

these other triangles, which will be our teeth.

0:11:450:11:49

There we go. Let's bring back in a green square now.

0:11:490:11:53

And we'll put some glue here on two of these edges.

0:11:530:11:56

That's that one and that one, like that.

0:11:560:12:00

Let's stick on the pink triangle, like this. There it goes.

0:12:000:12:06

Let's make sure it's stuck on. There it is, that's good.

0:12:060:12:10

We can turn it over and all we need are some googly eyes.

0:12:100:12:14

Let's stick on googly eye number one.

0:12:140:12:17

There we go. And we just need googly eye number two.

0:12:170:12:20

We have finished.

0:12:200:12:23

-CHEERING

-I did it.

0:12:230:12:26

Just in time, but if you've got more than a minute,

0:12:260:12:29

you could try all sorts of ideas.

0:12:290:12:32

How about this big-eyed corner creature with a pink paper tongue?

0:12:320:12:37

Or you could even use fun fur to make a furry corner creature.

0:12:370:12:42

Corner creatures made in just one minute. Why don't you try it?

0:12:420:12:46

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:12:460:12:49

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:12:490:12:52

Cut a square of paper into two triangles. Stick on paper teeth.

0:12:520:12:57

Glue two edges of another paper square.

0:12:570:13:01

And stick on your triangle, like this.

0:13:010:13:04

Add googly eyes.

0:13:040:13:06

And your corner creature is finished.

0:13:060:13:09

Why don't you try making it in a minute?

0:13:110:13:14

Right, sir, I'll leave this corner creature with you.

0:13:140:13:17

You look after this book

0:13:170:13:19

because I have to go on more arty adventures.

0:13:190:13:21

Thank you so much, my friends,

0:13:210:13:23

for being part of another marvellous minute-make!

0:13:230:13:27

Yeah!

0:13:270:13:29

Wow! The Houses of Parliament.

0:13:300:13:33

Oh, what's this?

0:13:350:13:37

It's a Mini Maker postcard. Let's see what we've been sent today.

0:13:390:13:44

My name is Anna. I am five years old.

0:13:450:13:48

I made a crown for you and I get some paper, shiny blue.

0:13:480:13:56

And I put the leaves here.

0:13:560:13:58

And I glue.

0:13:580:14:00

Do you think I'm beautiful?

0:14:020:14:05

Hi, Mister Maker. My name is Liam.

0:14:050:14:09

I come from Australia.

0:14:090:14:12

This is my picture.

0:14:120:14:14

It's textured houses.

0:14:140:14:16

We painted cardboard and put patterns on it.

0:14:160:14:20

I hope you like my textured picture, Mister Maker.

0:14:200:14:24

Oh, what fantastic ideas!

0:14:240:14:27

Why don't you try some of them?

0:14:270:14:29

-PHONE RINGS

-Oh?

0:14:290:14:31

It's the Makerphone.

0:14:310:14:33

Oh, some Mini Makers are calling.

0:14:330:14:36

Hello, Mister Maker, my name is Lauren. I'm from Hong Kong.

0:14:360:14:40

-And these are my friends.

-Hello.

0:14:400:14:44

Can you help us make a picture?

0:14:440:14:47

That sounds like a great idea. I'm on my way.

0:14:470:14:50

I'll be with you for a high-five in five, four...

0:14:500:14:55

Three...two...

0:14:580:15:00

..one.

0:15:020:15:03

We are in Hong Kong.

0:15:030:15:05

I made it! I made it.

0:15:050:15:07

I told you I would. High fives, everyone.

0:15:070:15:11

-What picture would you like to make today?

-Birds.

0:15:120:15:16

A bird picture? I love birds.

0:15:160:15:19

-What colours will the birds be?

-Yellow.

-Blue.

0:15:190:15:22

-Rainbow.

-Oh, lovely.

0:15:220:15:25

-And where will these birds live?

-In a tree.

-In a tree house.

0:15:250:15:30

-And how do the birds get in the trees?

-Fly.

0:15:300:15:34

They fly there, that's right.

0:15:340:15:37

Great ideas, everyone. Let's make it together.

0:15:390:15:42

We are making the branches of the trees.

0:15:450:15:48

I've finished!

0:15:500:15:51

These are the leaves. We need to be careful because scissors are...

0:15:530:15:58

..sharp!

0:15:580:15:59

Here are the birds.

0:15:590:16:02

Oh, no!

0:16:020:16:03

No, feathers, I'm ticklish!

0:16:030:16:06

And we need a coloured background.

0:16:060:16:10

We are having great fun here,

0:16:210:16:23

and making our big bird picture has just given me an idea.

0:16:230:16:28

Why don't you make something too?

0:16:290:16:31

Try making a brightly coloured bottle bird as a bedroom pet.

0:16:310:16:36

You will need an old, clean plastic bottle, and kitchen foil.

0:16:370:16:42

Tissue paper, glue and a brush.

0:16:420:16:45

Coloured paper strips, a pen, scissors and stickers.

0:16:450:16:50

First, scrunch a ball of foil around the top of a bottle.

0:16:500:16:54

Now stick pieces of coloured tissue paper all over the bottle with glue.

0:16:580:17:02

It looks good if you use more than one colour of tissue paper.

0:17:040:17:08

Then leave it to dry.

0:17:080:17:10

Next, take coloured paper strips

0:17:100:17:13

and wrap them around a pen

0:17:130:17:15

to make lots of different coloured curly feathers.

0:17:150:17:18

Stick curls on the sides of the bottle for wings.

0:17:190:17:23

On its head to make a curly crest.

0:17:290:17:31

And on the back of the bottle for tail feathers.

0:17:330:17:36

Then fold a big curl in half for a beak.

0:17:380:17:41

And carefully cut a point, like this.

0:17:430:17:46

Then stick it onto the head.

0:17:470:17:49

Finally, add black dots to stickers for eyes.

0:17:500:17:53

And stick them on.

0:17:530:17:55

Your brilliant bottle bird is finished. And ready to play with.

0:17:580:18:03

What a lovely idea.

0:18:040:18:06

Why don't you try it?

0:18:060:18:08

But right now, let's get back to our big bird picture.

0:18:080:18:11

That's it. We made it together.

0:18:200:18:24

ALL: Yes!

0:18:240:18:27

Wow! Those tropical birds are colourful, aren't they?

0:18:290:18:33

Oh, what a fantastic arty adventure we've had!

0:18:340:18:38

Remember, wherever you are in the world, get making!

0:18:380:18:42

-PHONE RINGS

-Oh, excuse me.

0:18:420:18:44

Oh, it's Tocky.

0:18:440:18:47

SQUAWKING

0:18:470:18:49

-Time to go.

-Oh, thanks, Tocky. I'll be home soon.

0:18:490:18:53

Well, that's it for now. My making time is over.

0:18:530:18:57
