Hello, it's making time.

0:00:420:00:45

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world.

0:00:450:00:51

Today, we go to Hong Kong to make a giant Chinese dragon

0:00:510:00:55

and show you how to make your own dragon puppet.

0:00:550:00:59

We visit South Africa

0:00:590:01:01

and find out how to make a super silly straw in a minute.

0:01:010:01:05

But first, roll up your sleeves and let's get arty down on the farm.

0:01:050:01:10

Whoa! Ha-ho!

0:01:110:01:15

Look at that! We've arrived in the UK.

0:01:150:01:18

I'm sure we'll find some arty ideas. Let's have a look around.

0:01:180:01:23

Isn't it lovely here? There's so much to see.

0:01:250:01:29

Let's have a look on the farm.

0:01:290:01:30

-There are donkeys...

-DONKEY BRAYS

0:01:300:01:33

-..pigs...

-PIG GRUNTS

0:01:330:01:34

-..cows...

-COW MOOS

0:01:340:01:36

-..and even geese.

-GEESE HONK

0:01:360:01:39

We've seen so much beautiful countryside

0:01:390:01:42

and our wonderful woolly sheep.

0:01:420:01:45

These new friends have just given me a great idea.

0:01:450:01:48

Let's try something.

0:01:490:01:51

Get busy with your hands

0:01:510:01:53

and try making a fantastic fingerprint sheep picture.

0:01:530:01:57

Let's make it!

0:01:570:02:00

Ha-ha!

0:02:000:02:01

Now, we'll need a Mini Maker to help us.

0:02:030:02:05

Let's see if there's one nearby.

0:02:050:02:08

-GIGGLING

-Hello, Mini Makers,

0:02:080:02:10

who's going to help me today?

0:02:100:02:12

Hello, Mister Maker, my name's Naomi.

0:02:120:02:15

Oh, hello, Naomi.

0:02:150:02:16

I can help you!

0:02:160:02:18

Oh, that's great news.

0:02:180:02:20

Everyone else, thank you very much. We'll see you soon.

0:02:200:02:23

Oh, that's brilliant!

0:02:230:02:25

Naomi is on her way to help us make our picture.

0:02:250:02:28

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

0:02:280:02:31

Excellent.

0:02:360:02:37

The Marvellous Maker Case has become a Marvellous Making Table.

0:02:370:02:42

Now we just need some arty things to make our picture.

0:02:420:02:45

We'll need...

0:02:450:02:46

some paper or card...

0:02:460:02:48

..a pen and some scissors...

0:02:520:02:54

..some brushes...

0:02:580:02:59

..some paint...

0:03:030:03:04

and, of course, we need one more thing.

0:03:040:03:07

That's right, we need...

0:03:070:03:09

a ball of wool?

0:03:090:03:12

We don't need a ball of wool!

0:03:120:03:14

Wait a minute...

0:03:140:03:16

It's Scrappz! How did you get here?

0:03:160:03:18

-SCRAPPZ BURBLES

-Oh, I see.

0:03:180:03:21

We don't need wool at the moment, but we do need a glue stick.

0:03:210:03:24

Can you go and find one? Don't forget the wool, Scrappz!

0:03:240:03:28

SHEEP BLEATS

0:03:280:03:30

-Ga-ha!

-There you go! That's much better, thank you, Scrappz.

0:03:300:03:34

-SCRAPPZ BURBLES

-Bye, thank you!

0:03:340:03:36

We've got a glue stick!

0:03:380:03:41

Great. We've got everything we need.

0:03:410:03:45

Although it does feel like something is missing.

0:03:450:03:48

Mm... Do you know what it is? Er...

0:03:480:03:52

I'm here, Mister Maker!

0:03:530:03:55

Of course! Naomi!

0:03:550:03:57

It's you, my friend.

0:03:570:03:58

Oh, it's lovely to see you. You're just in time.

0:03:580:04:01

We're going to make a picture!

0:04:010:04:03

It's a lovely fingerprint sheep picture.

0:04:030:04:07

-Now, what do you think of that, Naomi?

-Awesome.

0:04:070:04:10

It IS awesome, isn't it?

0:04:100:04:11

-So, are you ready?

-Yes.

0:04:110:04:13

Good. Are YOU ready?

0:04:130:04:15

Fantastic! Let's get making.

0:04:150:04:17

Now, let's start by making the hills in our picture.

0:04:170:04:20

And we can do that by taking some card or paper, like this.

0:04:200:04:26

And we're going to cover them in different shades of green paint.

0:04:260:04:30

Now, this can get a little bit messy,

0:04:300:04:32

so it's a good idea to put down some old paper or some newspaper first,

0:04:320:04:37

and I think we should put some aprons on.

0:04:370:04:39

-Hey, we look good, don't we?

-Yes.

0:04:410:04:44

Let's get our paint ready.

0:04:440:04:46

I've got some nice beakers here.

0:04:460:04:49

Then we'll need some paint.

0:04:490:04:51

SQUELCH! SQUELCH!

0:04:530:04:56

Well done, Naomi. That's some great paint squirting.

0:04:570:05:00

And now, we can do some painting.

0:05:000:05:03

So, choose a shade of green and make streaks of paint across the card.

0:05:030:05:07

So, you can see the paper underneath.

0:05:070:05:10

That makes it look like the grass on the hills.

0:05:100:05:13

When you finish this one, do the same with your other sheets of paper

0:05:130:05:17

using different shades of green. Then leave it to dry.

0:05:170:05:20

And now we can draw our hills. So, can you find me a pen, please?

0:05:200:05:25

There's one. Thank you very much.

0:05:250:05:27

Now, drawing hills is easy. They're just simple curves.

0:05:270:05:31

There we are, we have three hills.

0:05:420:05:45

And now we need to cut these out.

0:05:450:05:47

-Ooh, we must be careful, because scissors are...

-Sharp!

0:05:470:05:51

That's right.

0:05:510:05:52

SCISSORS BARK AND GROWL

0:05:520:05:54

We've got our hills. So, Naomi, time to bring in our sky.

0:06:000:06:05

Let's start arranging our hills.

0:06:050:06:07

I'm going to put that there.

0:06:070:06:09

You can arrange the hills on top of each other, like this,

0:06:090:06:13

and when you're happy, glue them all down.

0:06:130:06:16

And now we need to make some sheep, by using these things!

0:06:180:06:22

Ha-ha-ha!

0:06:230:06:24

I'm going to use my thumb,

0:06:240:06:26

and I'm going to dip it into the white paint

0:06:260:06:30

and print it near the bottom of the page.

0:06:300:06:32

Then dip your thumb in the paint again to print another sheep.

0:06:320:06:36

Move up the paper, and make your prints smaller and smaller

0:06:390:06:44

by using the rest of your fingers.

0:06:440:06:47

This makes it look as if you've got sheep far away in the distance.

0:06:480:06:53

Print as many sheep as you like, then leave them to dry.

0:06:530:06:57

And, Naomi, now we need to give our sheep a head and some feet.

0:06:570:07:01

We're going to use our fingers again,

0:07:010:07:04

but this time, use the black paint for the legs...

0:07:040:07:07

..the head...

0:07:110:07:13

..and the ears.

0:07:140:07:16

Keep going until you've printed all of your sheep.

0:07:160:07:19

And you can even add some extra bushes and some clouds

0:07:190:07:23

to finish off your fantastic fingerprint sheep picture.

0:07:230:07:27

-Naomi, did you enjoy that?

-Yes, Mister Maker.

0:07:270:07:29

Good. And if you enjoyed that, why don't you try these other ideas too?

0:07:290:07:34

You could make some buzzing bumblebees,

0:07:340:07:37

with fingerprint bodies and wings.

0:07:370:07:40

Or you could even try this icy scene,

0:07:410:07:44

with fingerprint penguins and fingerprint snow.

0:07:440:07:47

Why don't you try one today?

0:07:470:07:50

Thank you so much for helping me, Naomi.

0:07:500:07:52

BOTH: We made it!

0:07:520:07:54

High-five!

0:07:540:07:55

Excellent work, my friend.

0:07:550:07:57

SHEEP BLEAT

0:07:570:07:59

The Houses of Parliament. What an amazing sight!

0:08:030:08:07

I didn't think I'd see THAT today!

0:08:070:08:09

BOING!

0:08:090:08:11

What's that noise?

0:08:110:08:13

It seems to be coming from the Marvellous Maker Case!

0:08:130:08:16

Can you hear that?

0:08:160:08:18

BOING!

0:08:180:08:21

It's the Shapes!

0:08:210:08:24

SHAPES ALL CHEER AND SHOUT

0:08:240:08:27

0:09:430:09:44

Well done, shapes. It's time to get back in the Marvellous Maker Case!

0:09:440:09:50

SHAPES GIGGLE AND SHOUT

0:09:500:09:53

It's the Queen's house!

0:09:540:09:56

Buckingham Palace.

0:09:560:09:58

I wonder if anyone's at home.

0:09:580:10:00

I know! I'll knock on the door and find out.

0:10:000:10:03

-PHONE RINGS

-Oh...it's the Maker Phone.

0:10:030:10:06

-Oh, it's Tocky.

-TOCKY SQUAWKS

0:10:060:10:08

-Hello!

-It's minute-make time in South Africa!

0:10:080:10:12

I'm on my way.

0:10:120:10:14

It's minute-make time! Ooh!

0:10:140:10:16

SWAN HONKS

0:10:210:10:22

ELEPHANT TRUMPETS

0:10:230:10:25

BOING!

0:10:330:10:34

-It's minute-make time!

-ALL: Yay!

0:10:370:10:41

And today we're going to make one of these silly straws.

0:10:410:10:45

Mm, delicious.

0:10:480:10:50

And what a fun way to enjoy your favourite drink.

0:10:500:10:53

Now, you can make one of these silly straws by using these arty things.

0:10:530:10:58

Some fun foam...

0:10:580:11:00

a drinking straw...

0:11:000:11:01

a pen...a pencil...

0:11:010:11:04

some scissors...

0:11:040:11:05

and some modelling clay.

0:11:050:11:07

But, my friends, do you think it's possible to make a silly straw...

0:11:070:11:11

Ahh.

0:11:130:11:14

-..in just one minute?

-ALL: No way!

0:11:140:11:17

Oh. Well, I think I can.

0:11:170:11:19

I will have to be very quick, but don't worry,

0:11:190:11:22

I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:11:220:11:24

Are you ready?

0:11:240:11:26

-ALL: Yeah!

-Are YOU ready?

0:11:260:11:28

Fantastic. Let's make it...in a minute!

0:11:280:11:31

ALL: Three, two, one...

0:11:310:11:33

-Start the clock!

-BONG!

0:11:330:11:34

The first thing we'll do

0:11:340:11:36

is fold our piece of fun foam in half,

0:11:360:11:38

and then draw on a teardrop shape,

0:11:380:11:41

starting at the folded edge,

0:11:410:11:44

like that.

0:11:440:11:46

Round and round it goes.

0:11:460:11:48

Then we cut out that teardrop shape,

0:11:480:11:50

starting at the folded edge.

0:11:500:11:52

We need to be careful,

0:11:520:11:53

-because scissors are...

-ALL: Sharp!

0:11:530:11:56

That's right.

0:11:560:11:57

When we open up this teardrop shape,

0:11:570:12:00

it should look like the shape

0:12:000:12:02

of a moustache.

0:12:020:12:03

Now we get our modelling clay,

0:12:030:12:05

and we put that on the table.

0:12:050:12:06

Then we take our pencil.

0:12:060:12:08

Now, very carefully,

0:12:080:12:10

we push through the foam

0:12:100:12:13

into the modelling clay.

0:12:130:12:15

That makes a hole, like that,

0:12:150:12:18

and then we can use that hole

0:12:180:12:19

to push in our drinking straw.

0:12:190:12:22

Let's push it through...

0:12:220:12:23

DING DING!

0:12:230:12:25

Come on, there we go!

0:12:250:12:26

We push it through,

0:12:260:12:27

and we've made a silly straw!

0:12:270:12:29

ALL: Yay!

0:12:290:12:31

I did it!

0:12:310:12:32

Let's test it out, though.

0:12:320:12:34

Let's have a look.

0:12:340:12:35

Ahh. Perfect!

0:12:370:12:38

But if you've got more than a minute,

0:12:380:12:41

you could try all sorts of ideas.

0:12:410:12:43

How about this silly mouth, with purple lips and triangle teeth?

0:12:430:12:48

Or you could have a go at making a crazy creature straw,

0:12:490:12:53

with pipe cleaner whiskers and a bright red tongue.

0:12:530:12:57

Silly straws, made in just one minute.

0:12:570:13:00

Why don't you try it? Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:13:000:13:04

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:13:040:13:07

Fold a piece of fun foam in half, and draw on a teardrop shape.

0:13:070:13:12

Carefully cut it out,

0:13:120:13:14

and when you open it you should have a moustache shape.

0:13:140:13:17

Now make a hole like this using the modelling clay and a pencil,

0:13:170:13:21

and push your straw through the hole.

0:13:210:13:24

Your silly straw is finished!

0:13:240:13:27

Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

0:13:290:13:32

Thank you, everyone, for being part of another marvellous minute-make!

0:13:320:13:36

ALL: Bye!

0:13:360:13:39

What's this?

0:13:480:13:50

It's a Mini Maker postcard!

0:13:500:13:53

Let's see what we've been sent today.

0:13:540:13:57

Hello, my name is Gabriel, from Brazil.

0:13:570:14:01

I drew a picture of a bird.

0:14:010:14:03

I used glitter. I made the tree out of tissue paper.

0:14:030:14:08

I hope you like my bird, Mister Maker.

0:14:080:14:11

My name is Carly, and I am six years old.

0:14:110:14:15

And I come from Australia, and I made this hot-air balloon

0:14:150:14:20

from bits of cards, and I made the string from pipe cleaners.

0:14:200:14:25

I hope you like it, Mister Maker.

0:14:250:14:28

Oh, what fantastic ideas!

0:14:280:14:29

Why don't you try one of them at home?

0:14:290:14:32

-PHONE RINGS

-Oh!

0:14:320:14:33

Excuse me. The Maker Phone's ringing.

0:14:330:14:37

Oh, some Mini Makers are calling!

0:14:370:14:40

Hello, Mister Maker!

0:14:400:14:42

I'm Mei Sun from Hong Kong, and these are my friends.

0:14:420:14:47

Hello, Mini Makers!

0:14:470:14:48

Can you help us make a picture?

0:14:480:14:51

Oh, I'd love to!

0:14:510:14:53

I'll be with you for a high-five in...

0:14:530:14:55

Five...

0:14:550:14:57

four...

0:14:570:14:58

ALL: Three!

0:15:000:15:02

Two!

0:15:020:15:04

One!

0:15:040:15:06

We're in Hong Kong!

0:15:060:15:08

Oh, I made it!

0:15:080:15:10

I told you I would. High-fives!

0:15:100:15:13

Now, tell me, what picture would you like to make?

0:15:140:15:18

ALL: Dragon!

0:15:180:15:19

Ooh, a dragon!

0:15:190:15:21

And what will our dragon look like?

0:15:210:15:23

Big eyes, big teeth, and... big whiskers.

0:15:230:15:29

Big eyes, big, sharp teeth

0:15:290:15:31

and whiskers?!

0:15:310:15:32

And what sorts of colours will we see on our picture?

0:15:320:15:35

Red, orange, yellow, green and blue.

0:15:350:15:41

We're going to make a beautiful picture, Mini Makers.

0:15:410:15:44

Let's make it together!

0:15:440:15:46

Let's start by making some patterned paper scales.

0:15:460:15:50

Right, let me help.

0:15:540:15:56

I'll fold in the corners, and then you stick them down, OK?

0:15:560:16:00

Here we go.

0:16:000:16:01

We must make sure it's all stuck down, mustn't we?

0:16:010:16:04

THEY GIGGLE

0:16:040:16:06

How did that happen?!

0:16:060:16:08

You stuck it to my hands!

0:16:080:16:11

These are the whiskers.

0:16:110:16:13

BOING! BOING!

0:16:130:16:14

-Here are the eyes.

-BOING!

0:16:140:16:16

We'll need a big painted background.

0:16:160:16:19

And some lanterns.

0:16:200:16:23

-Ooh!

-SCRAPPZ BURBLES

0:16:230:16:26

We're having a great time here,

0:16:260:16:28

and making our big dragon picture has just given me an idea.

0:16:280:16:32

-DING!

-Why don't you make something, too?

0:16:320:16:35

Have your own puppet show, with this brilliant,

0:16:360:16:39

brightly coloured Chinese dragon puppet.

0:16:390:16:42

You will need...

0:16:420:16:44

two egg boxes...

0:16:440:16:46

tissue paper and a glue stick...

0:16:460:16:48

scissors and coloured paper strips...

0:16:480:16:51

a pen or pencil

0:16:510:16:52

and some scrap paper or stickers.

0:16:520:16:54

Start by making the eyes for your Chinese dragon.

0:16:540:16:58

Carefully tear out two of the bobbly bits from one egg box, like this.

0:16:580:17:03

Then glue them to the top of the other egg box.

0:17:050:17:08

Now, carefully cut the tissue paper into strips,

0:17:120:17:16

and glue them to the back of the egg box...

0:17:160:17:20

to make the dragon's mane.

0:17:200:17:23

Next, make some paper curls, like this.

0:17:230:17:26

Cut a V shape in one of them for a tongue...

0:17:270:17:31

and then stick the others on top of the dragon's head.

0:17:310:17:35

Stick on paper triangles for teeth...

0:17:370:17:41

and stickers for eyes.

0:17:410:17:43

Your Chinese dragon puppet is finished,

0:17:450:17:48

and ready for a big performance.

0:17:480:17:52

What a brilliant idea.

0:17:520:17:54

Why don't you try it?

0:17:540:17:55

But now let's see how our big dragon picture's getting on.

0:17:550:17:59

GIGGLING

0:18:000:18:02

That's it.

0:18:110:18:12

ALL: We made it together! Yay!

0:18:120:18:18

That's an amazing-looking Chinese dragon.

0:18:190:18:23

Whoa!

0:18:230:18:24

I'm glad he's not real.

0:18:240:18:26

Oh, what a fantastic arty adventure we've had!

0:18:290:18:32

Remember, wherever you are in the world, get making!

0:18:320:18:36

-PHONE RINGS

-Ooh! Excuse me.

0:18:360:18:38

Oh, it's Tocky!

0:18:390:18:42

-TOCKY SQUAWKS

-Time to go! Time to go!

0:18:420:18:46

Oh, thanks, Tocky.

0:18:460:18:47

I'll be home soon.

0:18:470:18:49

Well, that's it for now.

0:18:490:18:51

My making time's over, but yours is just beginning.

0:18:510:18:55

It's time to put the Marvellous Maker Case back in its box!

0:18:550:19:00

If you like making things, visit...

0:19:010:19:04

Make it, Mister Maker!
