Hello! It's making time.

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world.

Today we go to South Africa to make creepy crawlies in just one minute.

Find out how to make your own icy igloo

as we make a cool Arctic picture.

But first, let's fly off to the Far East

to make some really colourful ribbon art.

Wow! Look!

We're in Hong Kong.

What an amazing place with beautiful buildings.

There is so much to see here.

And there are so many interesting things you can buy in the markets...

and the shops!

This has just given me a great idea.

Let's try something.

Try making your own fantastic ribbon art with sparkly glitter

and lots of colourful ribbons.

Now we're going to need a Mini Maker to help us.

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

The Marvellous Maker Case

has become a marvellous making table!

Now we just need some arty things to make our picture.

We'll need some paper or card.

Now, we'll also need...

..lots of lovely ribbons.

Some glitter.

A glue stick. Some scissors.

We'll also need, of course...

..an egg.

-An egg?! We don't need an egg!

-Hey!

Scraps, it's you!

How did you get here?

Well, take this egg back. Open up.

But we do need some stars, please.

Sparkly stars.

See if you can...find some.

Be careful with that...

Excellent!

We've got everything we need.

Although, it does feel like something's missing.

Do you know what it is?

You're just in time to help me make some ribbon art.

Like this lovely picture here - it's an explosion of colour.

Now, are you ready, Yasmin?

-Yes.

-Good.

Are you ready?

Fantastic.

Let's get making.

Now, Yasmin, the first thing we need is some thick paper, or thin card.

This will be the background.

Now we need a glue stick.

Thank you, Yasmin. Lovely.

We're going to make a very wiggly sticky line.

Put lots of glue on...

And you can make this line as wiggly as you like.

There we are.

Lovely.

Yasmin, can you find me some glitter, please?

-Oh, what colour is that?

-Purple.

Purple. That's a great choice.

Sprinkle your glitter all over the sticky line.

Now, if we shake off the glitter, this happens.

We've got a very wiggly, glittery line.

You can make as many gluey, glittery lines as you like.

Now it's time to find some ribbon.

Yasmin, can you please choose a piece of ribbon?

Oh, yes, that is a good choice.

-What colour's this?

-Green.

Green, that's right.

Now, why don't you grab the glue stick for me,

and put some dabs of glue on the back of the ribbon.

Well done.

And now we can stick this ribbon anywhere we like.

It looks really good

if you twist the ribbon

and make it cross through the glittery lines.

To make it look really special,

use different coloured ribbons

and stick them across each other like this.

Stick down as many pieces of ribbon as you like,

and then carefully cut off the extra ribbon at the edges.

Now we need some sparkly stars.

Oh, yes, a nice red one.

Now, you can stick your stars wherever you like.

But why not stick them in the middle of your picture,

so it looks like the stars are bursting out

from all of the ribbons.

Stick down lots of stars, and we've finished, Yasmin!

It's some beautiful ribbon art.

And if you enjoyed that, why not try some other ideas too.

How about using spotty ribbons on a spotty, swirly pattern?

Or you could even try using animal print ribbons,

with gold stars and glitter.

Let's see what we're going to make today. Let's have a look.

Oh!

Hello.

Let's have a look over here.

I've spotted it, my friends!

Look at this.

The rarest of all creatures -

the plastic spoon creature!

And we can make one of those by using these arty things.

Let's have a look - two plastic spoons,

one, two, three, four pipe cleaners,

some stickers,

and a pen.

Now, do you think it is possible to make this

plastic spoon creature in just one minute?

ALL: No way!

Well, I think I can.

I am going to have to be... very quick!

But don't worry, I'll remind you how to do it...at the end.

Are you ready?

ALL: yes!

Good, good. But are YOU ready?

Fantastic. Let's make it in a minute.

ALL: Three, two, one!

Start the clock!

First, we put teaspoons together -

so the spoons are facing away from each other.

Then we use a pipe cleaner to fix them together like that.

Wrap it round.

That's looking good.

Now we get another pipe cleaner to make some legs.

Just wind them round...

and then bend them into leg shapes.

There's two legs...

we have two pipe cleaners left.

There's some more legs.

There we go.

Our plastic spoon creature is going to have six legs.

There we go - very wiggly legs

like that.

Bend them into shape

and now get some stickers

and draw dots in the middle like this.

To make the pupils of the eyes.

Now stick these stickers on

to the front of our plastic spoon creature.

There's one.

We've just got enough time to stick this one on!

There - we've made a plastic spoon creature!

BELL RINGS

ALL: Yay!

I did it. Just in time!

But if you have got more than a minute,

you could try all sorts of ideas.

How about a multi-coloured spoon creature,

made with spotty stickers

and a curly pipe cleaner tongue?

Or what about this fabulous orange scorpion,

with a fork for a tail?

Or you could even try a baby spoon creature

with beads for eyes on pipe cleaner stalks.

Aw!

Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

twist a pipe cleaner around two plastic spoon, like this.

Twist three more pipe cleaners around the spoons to make legs.

Add two white stickers with black dots for eyes.

And your plastic spoon creature is finished!

Oh, I would love to. I will be with you for a high-five in

I made it! I told you I would.

Right, everyone. Let's get some high-fives.

Now, what picture would you like to make?

ALL: An icy picture.

Good idea.

What's going to be in the icy picture?

Igloos.

Igloos!

Mm. Very good.

Seals.

Seals, that's a really good idea.

What do seals sound like?

THEY ALL MAKE BARKING NOISES

Super seals, everybody.

I think we are ready, aren't we?

ALL: Yes!

Let's make it together.

ALL: We're making a seal.

These are the snowy mountains.

And these are our icy blocks.

These ones are cool, aren't they?

And we'll need a nice frosty background.

We're having a great time making our big picture.

Look, there are igloos everywhere.

And that's just given me an idea.

Why don't you make something too?

Why not make your own incredibly useful igloo?

You will need

a cardboard tube and scissors,

a clean plastic bowl and sticky tape,

pieces of tissue paper and gloopy glue,

paint and a paint brush,

a foil plate and cotton wool,

kitchen scourers,

a clean plant spray,

and an old toy.

Start by carefully cutting the cardboard tube down the middle,

then open it out a little - like this.

Now, ask an adult to help you find a clean plastic bowl

and stick the cut tube onto the side of it with sticky tape

to make a igloo shape.

Then cover everything with pieces of tissue paper and gloopy glue,

and leave it to dry.

Now use white paint to cover your igloo with icy blocks.

Glue cotton wool all over the foil plate like this,

and place the igloo in the middle.

Then, tear tree shapes out of the kitchen scourers.

If you find this tricky, ask an adult to help you.

Push the trees into the gaps of the cotton wool.

And, if you've got one, why not add an animal toy.

For a finishing touch of extra snow, ask an adult to help you mix

watery white paint and put it into a plant sprayer.

Spray the mixture all over the igloo and the trees.

Your incredible igloo is finished,

complete with a secret compartment for storing special things.

What a good idea. Why don't you try it?

But right now, let's see how our big picture's coming along.

Oh, yes!
