Hello! It's making time!

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world!

Today, we go to South Africa to make a musical picture

and show you how to make a drum that you can play.

Find out how to turn a pompom into a hedgehog in under a minute.

But first we're off to Brazil with lots of paint and paper.

-Whoa!

Look where we are! We're in Brazil!

Oh, what a beautiful, exciting place. There must be so much to see.

Let's have a look around.

There are so many wonderful things to see in Brazil.

Amazing scenery...

..beautiful buildings

and the colourful shops and markets.

Wow! What an interesting shop

full of material in bright colours

and different patterns.

That's just given me a great idea.

Let's try something! Try using lots of brightly coloured paper

and paint to make a scrap and squiggle picture.

Let's make it!

Hello, Mini Makers! Now, who's going to help me today?

Hello, Mr Maker, I'm Sanjay.

-Hello, Sanjay.

Oh, that's good news. Everyone else, thank you very much.

Oh, fantastic!

Sanjay is on his way to help us make our picture,

but first we'll need somewhere to make it.

Fantastic!

The Marvellous Maker Case has become a marvellous making table.

Now, we just need some arty things to make our picture.

We'll need...

some different coloured pieces of paper or card...

..a pen and some scissors...

..some paint...

and, of course, we need one more thing - that's right,

we need a horn.

SCRAPS LAUGHS

A horn?! Scraps, how did you get here?

-SCRAPS REPLIES

-Oh, I see.

We don't need this at the moment, but we do need a glue stick.

All right, open up, off you go. Go on.

What's he like? I don't know!

Oh! Well done, Scraps, that's just what we need. Thank you.

-SCRAPS REPLIES

-Bye!

We've got a glue stick!

Excellent. We've got everything we need.

Although, it does feel like something's missing.

Do you know what it is? No...? Um... Eh...

I'm here, Mr Maker.

Of course! Sanjay, my friend! Oh, it's lovely to see you.

Thank you for coming. You're just in time to help me make our picture.

Look at it! It's a fantastic scrap and squiggle picture.

-So, Sanjay, are you ready?

-Yes.

Good. Are you ready? Fantastic!

Let's get making. Now, Sanjay, this picture can get a little bit messy.

-Do you like making a mess?

-Yes.

In that case, I think it's a good idea if we put down some

newspaper or some old paper first, and let's put on some aprons.

There! We look great! And now we are ready to start.

Let's take our colourful scraps of paper.

Ooh, we've got lots of lovely colours here.

Let's lay them all out...like this.

And then, we're going to dribble paint all over them.

Let's get dribbling.

Now, using this squeezy bottle

makes this lots of fun and really easy.

Keep going until you've covered all of your pieces of paper.

Then leave it to dry.

Now, we need to cut out lots of different shapes.

Now, it looks really good if these shapes are all the same size.

So, let's draw a square...

Now, I need to cut out this square, but

I must be careful because scissors are...

-Sharp!

-That's right!

SCISSORS GROWL AND SNAP

There. Now we can make lots of squiggly squares that are

all the same size by drawing around this square

onto all the colourful scraps.

And when you finish drawing your squares...

..carefully cut them out, like this.

Now, we've got lots of squiggly squares.

Sanjay, I'm going to give them all to you...

..because it's time to arrange them onto our background paper

and the bright squares will look really good on a dark background.

Let's start arranging our squares.

It looks really good if you spread out your colours and leave a gap

in between all of your squares and when you're happy with your picture,

stick everything down.

We've finished our scrap and squiggle picture,

and if you enjoyed that, how about trying these other ideas too.

You could make a stripy scrap and squiggle picture

with narrow strips of colourful paper.

Or how about using triangle shaped paper

so that your picture looks like flags?

Or you could use diamond shapes on a bright yellow

background for a different effect.

Why don't you try one of those ideas today?

Oh, thank you very much. I'm on my way.

Here we go.

It's minute-make time!

Oh, I put my pompom somewhere.

Where is it? Em... Oh, maybe it's...

Uh, no. Where...?

No, I still can't see it. Can anyone else see it anywhere?

ALL: It's on your nose!

-It's on my nose?!

-ALL: Yes!

-Well, why didn't you say so?

-ALL: We did!

-Oh, did you.

-Well, thanks, everyone.

-NOSE POPS

Oh! It's good that I found this

because we're going to turn this pompom into this...

It's a pompom hedgehog.

This is what we need - two pompoms, one big, one small,

we've got a pen, some scissors, a glue stick, some sticky dots,

we've also got some thin card here. We've got

a rectangle shape and a triangle shape.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this pompom hedgehog...

in just one minute?

ALL: No way!

I think I can. I will have to be very quick, but don't worry,

-I'll remind you how to do it at the end. Are you ready?

-ALL: Yes!

Are you ready?

Fantastic! Let's make it in a minute.

ALL: Three, two, one...

Start the clock!

The first thing we'll do is take our thin card

and cut out a very rough heart shape like this, being careful

-because scissors are...?

-ALL: Sharp!

-That's right.

Round and round we go. These are going to be the feet.

Let's get some glue and stick some glue on there

and now we get our pompom and stick that on top.

Let's get our triangle and we're going to fold that

in half to make a snout.

Now, add some dots to the stickers for eyes.

Let's stick our stickers onto our snout...

Ha-ha! There we go.

Now, let's turn the snout over and put on some glue and now if

we just stick that into a hedgehog and give it a bit of a squeeze.

It's taking shape and all we need now is one

pompom on the end of the nose and we have made a pompom hedgehog!

ALL CHEER

Phew! I did it just in time, but if you've got more than a minute,

you could try all sorts of ideas.

How about a cute penguin with an orange triangle-shaped beak

and a paper circle chest?

Or you could try this fabulous frog with pompom and sticker eyes

and a pink paper tongue.

Or you could even make a three-eyed alien with card arms

and lots of paper teeth.

Pompom creatures made in just one minute.

Here's a reminder of how to do it!

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

Cut a heart shape out of a piece of card, stick on a big pompom body.

Fold a triangle of card in half for a snout.

Add stickers for eyes.

Then stick the snout onto the body.

Add a small pompom for a nose.

And your pompom hedgehog is finished.

I stuck this twig on with sticky tape and that is a pond with

some fishes in it and reeds,

that is a frog and that is a koala.

I hope you like my picture.

Hi, I'm Nathan, I'm from Hong Kong and I've made a stamp for you.

I've drawn some patterns at the side

and then I drew a picture inside them.

My stamp is 1.40.

I'm going to put it on a postcard and post it to you, Mr Maker.

-Great! Let's make it together.

I'm making the drum.

This is the guitar.

And these are the panpipes.

And we'll need a colourful background.

THEY LAUGH

We're having a marvellous, musical time here,

and that's just given me a great idea.

Why don't you make something too?

Have fun and make some noise with this great toy drum.

You will need...an old, clean plant pot,

an empty yogurt pot,

gloopy glue and a brush,

scraps of colourful tissue paper,

a circle of brown paper and a glue stick,

and an elastic band and stickers.

Ask an adult to help you find a small, clean plastic plant pot

and stick it to a clean yoghurt pot to make a drum shape like this.

Now, cover everything with gloopy glue

and pieces of coloured tissue paper and leave it to dry.

Then take a circle of brown paper and scrunch it up.

Open it out again and place it on top of the drum.

Use an elastic band to hold the paper in place like this.

It can be tricky, so you might need to ask an adult to help you.

Decorate your drum with lots of colourful stickers.

And your drum is finished and ready to play.

What a lovely idea. Why don't you try it? But, right now,

let's see how our marvellous musical picture's coming along.
