OK, Gabriella, let's make a salad spinner pattern like this one here.

Brilliant. Let's get making.

The first thing we're going to do is put a paper plate

into a salad spinner, but remember to ask an adult before you use one.

Now squeeze different coloured paint on to the paper plate.

You can help me with this.

Can you squeeze blobs of the paint onto the paper plate, please?

You can use as many colours as you like, but we're going to use

pink, blue and yellow.

Very good. Well done, Gabriella.

I'm going to take the salad spinner back over here,

I'm going to put the lid on and then we can give it a spin.

This can get messy, so put down some old paper first.

All right. Let's see how we've done. Let's take the lid off.

Wow! Look at that!

All of the colours have spread out and mixed together.

Now we can very carefully take out the paper plate.

But watch out, the plate is still wet. Oh, very nice, Gabriella.

Let's leave that to dry and try another.

OK, let's put the lid back on.

Gabriella, I'm going to pass the salad spinner over to you.

Give it a spin!

Whoa! That's enough spinning. Let's have a look now

and see what we've made.

Look at that!

Let's take out the plate again.

It's a bit sticky.

We'll leave it down here to dry. Well done, Gabriella.

Now we can make some more.

Look! We've made four colourful plates and they're all dry.

Now we can stick our plates onto a sheet of paper.

We're going to use this dark colour but you can use any colour you like.

So, Gabriella, can you put glue on the back of those plates, please?

Can I have that one? That's great, thank you very much.

There! All finished. A super salad spinner pattern.

You can make all sorts of salad spinner patterns.

How about adding glitter to make your plate sparkle?

Why not use dark paper plates and brightly coloured paint?

Or you can use as many paper plates as you want

with lots of different colours.

Minute-make time.

Hey, it's minute-make time. I'm on my way.

We've arrived.

-It's minute-make time!

-ALL: Yeah!

Hello, madam. Can I ask, do you do the washing at home?

Yes, I do.

Don't you hate it when you sort out the washing and for no reason

you end up with an odd sock?

Don't worry, madam. It is clean. I've more good news.

We can turn this odd sock into a silly smiley sock

to make your friends laugh and we can make it in just one minute.

Here are the things we'll need. A clean sock.

A pencil.

Some pipe cleaners. A glue stick.

A paper cup. And we'll also need some googly eyes.

You can find them in an arts and craft shop. I'll be back soon!

Whoa! I've got them. Here are our googly eyes.

Do you think it is possible to make this smiley sock

in just one minute?

ALL: No way!

Oh, well, I think I can.

I will have to be very quick, but don't worry,

I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

-Are you ready?

-ALL: Yeah!

Great, let's make it in a minute.

Three, two, one, go!

The first thing we're going to do is get the cup and sock

and put the sock over the cup like this

and then pull it tight.

We are going to make sure

that seam there makes a mouth.

Then we get a pencil

and carefully push through into the cup

so we make holes in the sock.

Ask an adult to help you with this bit

cos it's quite tricky,

and the pencil needs to be nice and sharp.

Now, use the pencil

to wind the pipe cleaners around and around.

There is one.

These are going to make, clearly, antennae.

Now we need to push them in. Let's push them in here.

There is one. In you go.

Now, we are going to put the other one in here,

that side, in you go. Brilliant.

Now we need eyes,

so let's get some googly eyes.

A bit of glue. There is one googly eye,

and then another, and we've finished our smiley sock!

CHEERING

Oh, I did it just in time.

But if you've got more than a minute,

then you can try all sorts of ideas.

How about this one,

with even more curly pipe cleaners for big bushy hair?

Or this spotty one with pom-pom eyes and pom-pom hair?

Or you could use a bigger cup

to make a taller one with a longer sock.

Smiley socks made in a minute. Why don't you try it?

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Back to the beginning to take another look.

Take a clean sock and pop it over a paper cup.

Make sure the seam makes a mouth.

Push a pencil through to make holes in the top.

Wind pipe cleaners around a pencil and pop them into the holes.

Glue on a pair of googly eyes,

and your smiley sock is finished.

Why don't you try and make one in a minute?

They're great fun and a really good way to re-use an old sock. And...

they've got funny, spiky hair, just like me.

for a big surprise?

Oh, no, it's stopped.

-What a shame, but not to worry.

I think it might start snowing again when we make our big snowman!

Right, Mini Makers, we're going to make a big snowman.

-So what can we use for snow?

Our snowman needs a scarf.

-What else does a snowman have?

-Eyes!

-Do you think these will make good eyes for our snowman?

Come on, then, let's make it.

This is the snowman's body.

We're making the snowman's scarf.

I'm making the snowman's buttons.

These are the trees.

Here's our wintry sky.

Come on, Mini Makers.

Oh, this big surprise has been great fun so far,

so why don't you join in and make your very own mini-make?

Try making this super snowman on an icy pond that will never melt.

Have fun with it all year round.

You will need glue, paint, water,

some cardboard and kitchen foil,

a clean yoghurt pot, a brush,

some cotton wool and a pom-pom.

Put a piece of cardboard on some kitchen foil

and fold the edges over to keep it in place.

Then make a gluey mixture which is half gloopy glue and half water

and give it a stir.

Next, dip some cotton wool into the gluey mixture

and stick it around the edges of the foil.

Then take a big piece of cotton wool,

squash it into a ball, dip it into the gluey mixture

and stick it down like this to make the snowman's body.

Do the same with a smaller ball of cotton wool for the head

and, for the arms, roll up long cotton wool sausage shapes

and stick them on.

Now, add a squirt of gloopy glue to some paint, mix it together

and paint a yoghurt pot to make the snowman's hat.

When it's dry, glue it onto your snowman.

Add stickers for a mouth...

eyes...and some buttons.

Stick on a pom-pom for a nose

and your snowman on an icy pond is finished and ready to play with.

Why don't you try to make that super little snowman?
