Can we use this tape to make something?

You want to use this tape roll to make something?

Of course, we can do that. In fact, we could use this to make a hat.

I know, we can make up a game with it, like catch.

Here we go? Ready? Ha-ha, no? I know!

This tape isn't just any type of tape. Oh, no.

This is masking tape,

and it's just given me a great idea.

Let's try something.

Try making a drippy masking tape picture. It's messy, but marvellous!

-BOTH: Let's make it!

-First, we need somewhere to make it.

We'll need things from the doodle drawers!

Hold this, please. I'll be back soon!

A sheet of card, or paper, and some brushes.

Some brightly coloured paint.

In fact...lots of brightly coloured paint!

We also need some party cups. I wonder if Scraps has got some?

-BEEP!

-Oh, hello, Scraps.

Oh, well done, Scraps! Fantastic. That's brilliant!

Did you hear that? Hmm.

And we need some water.

OK, then, Susie.

Let's make a drippy masking tape picture, like this one here.

Wow! Very colourful.

Susie, are you ready?

-Yeah.

-Are you ready? Fantastic! Let's get making.

Firstly, we'll take a sheet of dark card, or paper,

and stick down strips of masking tape to make a pattern.

Let's get some masking tape, Susie. Thank you.

Make it really long, one piece.

Add another piece, Susie. That's it!

It looks good to stick masking tape in different directions.

There's our lovely, stripy, pattern,

but we'll put this to one side,

because it's time to lay out some cups.

We're going to make a very special mixture in each one,

that's made up of a squirt of paint.

We also need to put in a splash of water.

There we go. Now, these mixtures need to be stirred.

-So can you help me Susie?

-Yeah.

-Let's put them over here.

OK, then. It's Susie, the stirrer.

Are we ready, Susie?

Brilliant!

OK, this can get a little bit messy.

So it's a good idea to put on some old clothes or an apron.

Ho-ho! We look great!

Now, Susie, let's bring back in our stripy pattern from earlier,

and take a painty mixture, starting with green.

I'm going to dribble and drip it all the way across our pattern.

This can get really messy. Make sure you do it on some old paper.

That's lots of lovely green.

-What's your favourite colour, Susie?

-Pink.

Pink? Well, let's do the pink next.

Do it with all the colours until the page is covered.

Wait for the paint to dry, and then very carefully

peel off the masking tape.

We're all finished. And have a look at this!

We've got dark stripes where the masking tape used to be.

You can make lots of pictures like this with masking tape.

You could use any colours you want. Why not try making stripes?

Or even a pattern, like this.

Drippy masking tape pictures are messy, but fun.

This is a lovely day for a drive out in the Makermobile, isn't it?

Squawk! Minute-make time!

Hey, it's minute-make time! I'm on my way!

I'm here!

It's minute-make time, everyone!

ALL: Yay!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,

we're going to make something by reusing this!

It's an old cardboard box.

It's good to reuse boxes, rather than throw them away.

-Today, we're going to turn this, into a cardboard box cat!

-Miaow!

And we can make it in just one minute, by using these things.

We've got a pipe cleaner,

stickers, craft foam, cotton wool balls, fun fur shapes,

a glue-stick, our cardboard box, and some sticky tape.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this cardboard box cat...

-in just one minute?

-ALL: No way!

I think I can! I'll have to be quick, but don't worry!

I'll remind you later. Are you ready?

ALL: Yes!

Are you ready? Brilliant!

Let's make it, in a minute!

AUDIENCE: Three, two, one, GO!

Start the clock!

Let's get our box.

Stick this pipe cleaner on the back for a tail.

Get lots of glue.

On to the box there. And on that edge.

There we are.

Wrap round our fun fur, like this. And round.

Let's put that aside.

Now let's make the face of our cat.

Let's put lots of glue on there. There we go.

Let's give him some ears with these triangle shapes.

There's one, and there's another one.

Now turn the body over, and put on his face.

There he is. Give our cat a nose.

And we can use these stickers for the eyes.

And the mouth.

We need to put some glue on the bottom here.

-ALL: Five, four, Three...

-Add cotton wool.

-And we've made a cardboard box cat!

-CHEERING

Just in time!

If you've got time, you can make all kinds of cats.

How about this cheetah? With spotty fabric and big, orange eyes?

GROWL!

Or a lion with a colourful mane, and three little lion cubs.

Aren't they cute?

Cardboard box cats made in a minute. Why don't you try it?

Here's a reminder of how to do it!

Let's go back to the beginning and look.

Stick a pipe cleaner to the back of a box. Then glue fun fur around it.

Stick two furry triangles to the back of a circle of fun fur.

And glue it to the box for a face.

Add a craft foam nose. And stickers for eyes and a mouth.

Glue on cotton wool balls for paws, and your box cat is finished!

It's a good job, then, that I've got this!

Ooh, yes, ooh!

Wait a minute!

This little fan that spins round and round

has just given me a great idea!

We should make a big windmill together! Will you help me?

Yes!

Maymoona, Brayden, Jennifer, Fatima, Zakir,

let's make it!

Mini Makers, we're going to make a big windmill.

What's it look like?

It's got big sticks coming out of it and it spins around.

That's right, and they're called sails.

-What could we make the sails with?

-This!

-What's that?

-Cardboard!

-Now, where should our windmill be?

-In the countryside.

-What's in the countryside?

-A sheep and some lambs.

That'd be lovely, a field of sheep.

-Now, how can we make our sheep?

-Cotton balls!

-Now, we're ready, aren't we Mini Makers?

-Yes!

Come on, then. Let's make it!

BOTH: We are making a windmill!

Here's the countryside.

Here's some woolly sheep.

I'm all sticky! Oh, no, I've got woolly hands!

And this is a lovely blue sky.

Ahh, the sun is up, which means it's time

to bring in the hills and grass.

Come on, Mini Makers! That's it.

Ho-ho! This big surprise has been great fun so far.

Why don't you join in and make your very own Mini Make?

Try making your very own windmill to play with and have fun with!

You will need paint, a large paper cup, some card, sticky tape,

glue, some modelling clay, a straw, a brush, a pen, and a pencil.

First take the paper cup,

use modelling clay and a pencil to make two holes.

One on either side like this.

You may need to ask an adult to help you.

Now paint the cup. And leave it to dry.

To make windmill sails,

stick two long rectangles together in a cross shape.

Then decorate the sails with a pen, like this.

Next carefully make a hole with the pencil

and modelling clay in the centre of the sails.

Draw a door and windows onto coloured paper,

carefully cut them out, then stick them on to the cup.

Push a straw through the holes in the cup,

and tape one end of it down.

Put the sails on the other end,

and hold them in place with modelling clay.

Now your windmill is finished, with sails that spin!

Why not try to make that lovely, little windmill?
