Hi, I'm Whitney and
this is Newsround. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
First up to football, and Manchester
took on West Ham last night. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:21
The Hammers scored first
but Nicolas Otamendi made | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
the scores equal again. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
Then David Silva gave City the win
with just seven minutes to go. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
The victory made it
a record-equalling 13th | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
Premier League match wins
in a row for City. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
Cricket now, and England
are battling it out | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
with Australia in the Ashes. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:44
It's best of five games to win
the competition and Austalia | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
have already won one. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
It looks like they'll
be taking the second. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
Australia scored 442 runs
in their first innings and currently | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
England are just 219 for 8 wickets. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
Not looking great. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
And in tennis, Alfie Hewett became
the first British Champion in 23 | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
years to win the singles titles
in Loughborough at the Wheelchair | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Tennis Masters over the weekend. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
Hewett beat his doubles partner
Gordon Reid in the final. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
Did you watch the X Factor
final last night? | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
Well if you don't want to know
who won, look away now! | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
Ready? | 0:01:16 | 0:01:24
I can now reveal the winner of the X
Factor 2017 is... Rak-Su! | 0:01:24 | 0:01:32
It was Rak-Su! | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
They're the first boy band to win
the show since it started in 2004. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
They beat Grace Davies in the final. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
Their first single is called Dimelo,
and all the money raised | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
from it will go to charity. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:45
We want you to get in touch
about all things X Factor. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
Did the right act win, and why? | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Are you a raving about Rak-Su or did
you think Grace was great? | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
Next, to a young footballer
with a big dream. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Jessica lives in Liberia
in West Africa, where girls haven't | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
traditionally played football -
but she's hoping | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
to help change that. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:06
Hi, my name is Jessica. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Welcome to my home. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
Jessica's ten years old. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
She lives in West Point, which is
the biggest slum in Liberia. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
This is where I started playing
football when I was six years old. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
She was spotted by a talent
scout and has spent | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
the last couple of years
at the Monrovia football academy. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
It's the first one in Africa to take
on both boys and girls. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:32
In West Africa, the female football
is not well structured, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
but this is what we're trying
to change, to give the girls access | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
to opportunities out there. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
When they're playing good football,
they can have opportunities | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
of a professional football contract. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:46
I fell in love with football
because I want to be | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
a good football player,
and I love football very much. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:55
Nearly two thirds of children
in Liberia have never been | 0:02:55 | 0:02:59
to school, so the academy helps
with learning off the pitch, too. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:05
Jessica's had the chance to play
in international games, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
and it's her dream to one day be
part of one of Europe's | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
biggest clubs, Real Madrid. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
You go, girl! | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
Now have you ever been on a journey
and lost something along the way? | 0:03:18 | 0:03:22
Maybe it was your
favourite teddy bear. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
Well, that's exactly what happened
to ten-year-old Eve. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
Here are the 'bear' facts. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
Basil's a chocolate Labrador teddy
and he's really special to me | 0:03:30 | 0:03:32
because he looks like my dog,
Archie. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:37
I take him everywhere. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
We were going to Canada that day,
and I forgot all about Basil, | 0:03:40 | 0:03:45
I thought he was in my bag
or I thought my mum had packed him | 0:03:45 | 0:03:50
up, so we went onto the flight,
but he wasn't in my bag. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
I was crying my heart
out on the plane. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:55
I just thought, "Oh, no,
I've not got Basil any more." | 0:03:55 | 0:03:59
And ten-year-old Eve isn't the only
one to lose a teddy this year. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:04
I found another one. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:05
Another one, is it? | 0:04:05 | 0:04:06
Put it in with the rest. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
But this year, instead of leaving
all the teddies in lost property, | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
Glasgow Airport decided to try
something a little bit different. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
So, every year at Glasgow airport,
we have about 10 million people | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
who travel through our doors,
and for some of the younger | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
travellers they are coming along
with their best friend, | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
their teddies, and we all know
how upsetting it can be | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
if they become separated. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:33
So we went over to the lost property
office, we found there were teddies | 0:04:33 | 0:04:37
sitting lonely on the shelves,
and we felt, we need | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
to do something, we need
to try and reunite them. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:44
They made a video showing off
all the teddies in lost property | 0:04:44 | 0:04:46
and posting it online. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:47
And guess what? | 0:04:47 | 0:04:48
The video went viral. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
Turned up on Good
Morning Germany TV. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:51
It was on TV in Japan. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:56
It was overwhelming. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:58
We just really didn't
anticipate the level | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
of interest we'd receive. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:03
And, amazingly, Eve's mum was one
of the people who saw it. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:07
I didn't think I would
actually get him back. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:09
I just feel so excited,
happy, overwhelmed. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:16
He means so much, he
means the world to me. | 0:05:16 | 0:05:21
I believe this is yours? | 0:05:25 | 0:05:27
Yeah. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:31 | |
Missed you. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:40
It is like the end of a film! | 0:05:40 | 0:05:42
Finally, it's a bit embarassing
when you try to do something and it | 0:05:42 | 0:05:45
doesn't quite work -
especially if lots of | 0:05:45 | 0:05:47
people are watching. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:48
Well, that's what happened
when construction workers tried | 0:05:48 | 0:05:50
to knock down this unused sports
stadium in America. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:52
They had planned to blow up
the Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:55
But, it didn't quite work! | 0:05:55 | 0:05:58
I wonder how they'll
try to take it down now?! | 0:05:58 | 0:06:01
That's it from me,
we'll be back at 4.20pm. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:03 |
