First, six-year-old Maisie

from Swindon has just found out

the film she stars in has

won an Oscar.

She's over in LA in America

with all the stars!

Maisie is deaf, the same

as the character she plays

in The Silent Child.

Newsround is with her in Hollywood.

This was the moment the team

behind the film found out

they'd won an Oscar.

I made a promise to our six-year-old

lead actress that I'd sign

the speech, and my hands are shaking

so I apologise.

So who's the six-year-old

she's talking about?

It's a story so happy it could have

been the plot of a Hollywood movie.

Maisie hadn't even acted before,

then her parents were told

about the film looking for deaf

children to star in it.

And now here are the nominees

for Best Live Action Short Film...

This is the moment the film team

found out they'd been

nominated for an Oscar.

And so, Maisie, along

with her cuddly toy...

Welcome onboard!

..made her way to LA

to take her place as part

of Hollywood history.

When she got there, she made sure

she did all the important things.

And last night was the big night.

We're so thrilled to be here,

and that we've managed

to put this subject,

which largely isn't talked about,

in front of a mainstream audience.

So how are they feeling

about the big win?

The film's writer, Rachel Shenton,

says it's amazing to win,

and she's so proud of the team

behind the film for bringing

the topic of deafness

to a huge audience.

She told us she's surprised Maisie

managed to stay awake

for the announcement,

because the ceremony was so late!

But that she was shouting

with excitement.

What a fantastic achievement!

Let's hope Maisie wasn't too tired

to join in with the celebrations.

Next, snow has caused

problems across the UK,

but it's a huge problem for those

without homes, living

on the streets.

Newsround caught up with some

students who wanted to do something

to help the homeless.

Ladies first.

OK.

I'm supposed to go first

and you said, "Ladies..."

Yeah, ladies first, on about myself!

Oh.

They're having a mass sleep out

in solidarity for young people

who find themselves homeless.

We can't replicate what homeless

people have to go through,

because nobody should have to go

through that, but we're

sleeping on the floor

and the heating is off,

and phones, no, MP3 players,

none of that, at all.

I think the most challenging thing

that will happen tonight is sleeping

on the ground because most people,

like me, I'm used

to sleeping on a bed.

I think the most challenging thing

for me is trying to keep warm.

Tonight, the thing that I'm

going to miss the most is my family,

because I usually have them there.

I think the students will get

a really small flavour of what it

might be like to sleep

without their home comforts,

put themselves in the shoes

of someone who's experiencing life

on the streets.

I can't wait until the morning

because I'm not going to wake

up, it's too early,

and it's the weekend.

On a scale of one to ten, I was one.

It was awful, freezing

cold, I was hungry.

I was about a three.

I was minus five.

I think if I was uncomfortable

inside on a cold wooden floor,

then how is it for them

when they don't have

any sort of shelter?

I think it's going to be ten times,

even 100 times harder on people that

are sleeping outside,

with no home, no room, no shelter.

More people should be

taking the time to talk

to them and try to get them

out of homelessness.

I think it's giving me the best

insight because there's no other

experience to make you feel

what they're feeling.

To football now, and Manchester City

are 18 points clear at the top

of the English Premier League

after beating Chelasa 1-0

at the Etihad Stadium.

This goal by Bernardo Silva

was the only thing that

seperated the teams.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been

critisised for using negative

tactics against City,

after deciding to play

without a striker.

Lionel Messi, the five-time

World Footballer of the Year,

has hit another amazing record.

This free kick against

Atletico Madrid yesterday not only

sent Barcelona eight points clear

in the Spanish league,

it was also his 600th goal

for his club and country.

He's won eight La Liga titles,

four Champions Leagues

and five Spanish Cups.
