Good morning and a happy news year to you. I'm Ricky with Monday's top

stories. On the way: why there could soon be loads more jobs in space.

And Ellie tops the chart more than a year after her album's release.

It's been a difficult few weeks for thousands of people as the wild

weather continues to grip parts of Britain. This morning, more coastal

flooding is expected, as strong winds batter the west coast of

England and Wales. South West Scotland and the eastern coast of

Northern Ireland are particularly at risk. The Enviroment Agency has

issued 90 flood warnings. Forecasters say we can expect

"colossal waves" whipped up by winds of 70mph. They also say that

December 2013 was the stormiest on record.

Parts of America are preparing for record-breaking temperatures. A

winter storm has already covered areas of Canada and north-eastern

US, with up to 60 centimetres of snow. Schools in Chicago are closing

and officials are telling people to stay indoors. This whether

combination we are seeing, with all of the snow and cold, it's unlike

anything we have seen in decades in this area. I can't emphasise that

enough. The cold really scares me. So cold that this cup of water

freezes in midair. Next, imagine becoming an astronaut

or helping launch a rocket into space. I'm sure these sound like

dream jobs to some of you, but the good news is they might not be

impossible dreams. The Chancellor, George Osborne, who is in charge of

the country's money, says he wants the UK space industry to treble over

the next 20 years. That should mean loads more jobs for when you grow

up, whether it's helping to send up the satellites that make mobile

phones work or making devices like this one to map the stars.

Next, Bandy is not a game that many of you will have heard of. It's

basically ice hockey played on a sheet of ice the size of a football

pitch, with a ball instead of a puck. Unsurprisingly, the countries

that win major competitions are generally from colder climates like

Sweden, Finland or Russia. But when this year's World Championships take

place later this month in Siberia, there will be a new contender...

From Africa. Nel's got more. It is like ice hockey but it is

played with a ball rather than a part. This is Somalia's national

team. The hot country is not usually somewhere you would associate with

sport played in freezing temperatures. That is, until now.

The players grew up in the boiling heat of Mogadishu. With a high crime

rate and a lack of prospects, lots of Somalis have read the country to

try to start a better life elsewhere. These players moved to

Sweden and they were spotted playing in a local football team. At the

time, none of them could skate. They have courage. They have been part of

things we don't ever want to dream about. Going on ice and on skates,

it was nothing for them. In just a few weeks, they will represent

Somalia in Siberia. Representing my country is crazy! It is an

indescribable feeling. Temperatures there can plummet to -50. To

prepare, they have spent time in giant freezer. They know that

against teams like Russia and Sweden, they don't stand much of a

chance. But for them, even if they don't score a goal, it is really the

taking part that counts. As you heard earlier, Manchester

United are out of the FA Cup after suffering a shock home defeat to

Swansea. The score was 1-1 until this late goal in the 90th minute

from Wilfried Bony gave Swansea their first ever victory at Old

Trafford. It's United's second defeat on the trot, so the

pressure's on for manager David Moyes.

More than a year after Ellie Goulding released her second album,

it's finally reached the top of the charts. It's taken 12 months to get

there. The album, called Halcyon, features five Top 40 singles,

including her debut number one, 'Burn'. In the singles chart, US

rapper pit bull scored the first number one of the year with Timber,

featuring Kesha. And it's been a while since we had a

panda story, so here's one to start 2014. The first giant panda to be

born in Taiwan has made her public debut in front of thousands of

visitors. Yuan Zai was born 180 days ago. Her mother, Yuan Yuan, and

father, Tuan Tuan, came to Taiwan from China in late 2008. She was

active for 20 minutes before taking a nap. She currently sleeps for 20
