Hi, everyone, welcome to Newsround this Thursday afternoon - I'm Leah.

0:00:030:00:06

Loads on the way, including...

0:00:060:00:09

Peggy - the awesome astronaut who keeps breaking records.

0:00:090:00:12

And Pepsi says sorry - we'll tell you why.

0:00:120:00:20

First, is it OK to go on holiday during term time?

0:00:250:00:28

Well, today the country's top court has decided no -

0:00:280:00:31

and that your parents must follow your school's

0:00:310:00:33

rules on attendance.

0:00:330:00:35

It's after one girl's dad refused to pay a fine

0:00:350:00:37

for taking her on a term-time holiday that her school

0:00:370:00:41

hadn't agreed to.

0:00:410:00:42

The judges said they can affect kids' learning as well as teachers.

0:00:420:00:46

But the dad involved said parents should be able to decide what's

0:00:460:00:49

right for their children.

0:00:490:00:51

Some kids have been giving us their thoughts.

0:00:510:00:54

I don't think they should be allowed to go on holiday in school time

0:00:540:00:58

because there's a set time for holidays -

0:00:580:01:02

it's actually called a holiday.

0:01:020:01:03

The school should know what happens before they go, so I think

0:01:030:01:07

that parents should negotiate with the school a few

0:01:070:01:12

months before they go.

0:01:120:01:13

I think that they should be allowed, but if it's a couple of

0:01:130:01:16

days then it's fine but if it's more than a week then no.

0:01:160:01:19

I don't think they should be punished at all, no,

0:01:190:01:22

cos that's a bit mean.

0:01:220:01:23

If it's more than one or two weeks or one or two

0:01:230:01:28

weeks they should be punished, and if it's just a few days then

0:01:280:01:31

I still think that's fine.

0:01:310:01:34

The US President, Donald Trump, is among the world

0:01:340:01:36

leaders who have been reacting in shock, after chemical weapons

0:01:360:01:40

were apparently used in the war in Syria this week.

0:01:400:01:44

At least 86 people died.

0:01:440:01:46

A chemical weapons expert believes the Syrian president,

0:01:460:01:49

Bashar al-Assad, was responsible.

0:01:490:01:51

He's denied it, blaming the rebel fighters who want him out.

0:01:510:01:54

Here's Jenny on what chemical weapons are, and why

0:01:540:01:57

they cause such anger.

0:01:570:02:00

Chemical weapons are toxic chemicals that are used to hurt or kill.

0:02:000:02:05

They were used in World War I, more than 100 years ago.

0:02:050:02:08

They caused such horror that, in 1925, countries agreed

0:02:080:02:12

to an international ban on using them in war.

0:02:120:02:16

Even in war, there are rules that countries agree to -

0:02:160:02:19

some of those are about the types of weapons that can be used.

0:02:190:02:23

20 years ago, there was an agreement called

0:02:230:02:25

the Chemical Weapons Convention.

0:02:250:02:28

192 nations, including Syria, have signed it -

0:02:280:02:31

agreeing to destroy all their chemical weapons.

0:02:310:02:34

That's why there's a lot of anger about the suspected attack,

0:02:340:02:37

in a country that's been at war for more than six years.

0:02:370:02:42

For a full outline of what's going on in Syria -

0:02:420:02:45

go online now, for our guide to the conflict there.

0:02:450:02:49

Moving on, Pepsi have said sorry and pulled their latest advert,

0:02:490:02:51

after it got lots of negative comments.

0:02:510:02:54

The ad stars American model Kendall Jenner at a protest.

0:02:540:02:58

She walks up to a police officer, hands him a can of Pepsi and then

0:02:580:03:02

everyone cheers and hugs.

0:03:020:03:04

People have complained because they say it makes light

0:03:040:03:07

of recent US protests against how police treat black people.

0:03:070:03:10

Pepsi have said they "clearly missed the mark".

0:03:100:03:15

From Pepsi to Peggy - the awesome astronaut who can't

0:03:150:03:17

stop breaking records.

0:03:170:03:19

The American will soon do her record-breaking ninth spacewalk -

0:03:190:03:22

and her stay on the International Space Station's just been

0:03:220:03:25

extended by three months!

0:03:250:03:26

Here's Jenny on five ways Peggy Whitson is wowing us all.

0:03:260:03:33

In 2008 Peggy became the first ever woman to command the ISS.

0:03:330:03:41

And that's not the only record Peggy's broken.

0:03:420:03:44

Her first mission was back in 2002 and she holds the record

0:03:440:03:47

for the longest time spent in space by a woman.

0:03:470:03:50

This is Peggy's third mission to the ISS and this time,

0:03:520:03:55

when she set off on November 18th in 2016, she became the oldest

0:03:550:03:59

woman to enter space.

0:03:590:04:01

Peggy turned 57 in February.

0:04:010:04:06

She's completed more spacewalks than any other

0:04:060:04:08

female astronaut - eight so far!

0:04:080:04:15

And there's one big one to come - on April 24th, she'll have

0:04:190:04:22

spent more time in space than any other US astronaut.

0:04:220:04:26

She'll beat the current 534-day record held by Jeff Williams!

0:04:260:04:32

Finally - it's the Gaming Baftas tonight - an awards do to recognise

0:04:340:04:37

the best games in the UK and around the world.

0:04:370:04:40

Among the frontrunners are Overcooked - which is up

0:04:400:04:43

for four prizes including Best Family Game.

0:04:430:04:46

Also in that category is Pokemon Go, which has three nominations.

0:04:460:04:52

That's all from me - Newsround's back on CBBC tomorrow

0:04:520:04:55

morning at 7:40am with Jenny.

0:04:550:04:57

See ya!
