is affecting animals! | 0:00:13 | 0:00:23
Let's kick off with some

First up, football and some
big transfer news. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:31
Barcelona are going to sign
Liverpool's Brazilian | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
midfielder Philippe Coutinho
in a £142 million deal, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
which woud be the most expensive
transfer in the Premier League | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
and the second biggest
in the world ever. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:45
And the other person
leaving his club is Stoke | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
manager Mark Hughes. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:52
His team have been doing badly
in the Premier League, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:57
but he was sacked yesterday
after his team were knocked out | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
of the FA Cup by Coventry
who are three leagues below them. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
Ashes now, and England have survived
overnight in Australia... | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Just. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05 | |
They're still 210 runs behind
with one more day's play | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
left in the series, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
which looks like it's going to end
in a 4-0 win for Australia. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
Today's play saw the first brothers
to make a century each | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
in the same innings since 2001. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
Australia's Shaun and Mitchell Marsh
both hitting hundreds. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:24
The East Coast of North
America is shivering | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
in a record-breaking freeze. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
It comes after a massive
snow storm that reached | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
as far south as Florida. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:30
Temperatures there are
forecast to fall below | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
minus 29 Celsius. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
These girls in the city
Boston sent us this. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:42
Hi, Newsround, this is Boston,
USA, and it's so cold. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:47
We have had 12 and a
half inches of snow. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
It was awesome! | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
We got the day off school. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:56
We read books, baked banana
bread and watched TV. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
After the snowstorm,
the snowploughs cleared the roads | 0:01:59 | 0:02:06
and my mum and dad cleared the snow
in front of our house. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
Bye from Boston! | 0:02:10 | 0:02:20
So the weather has been a real
surprise - not just for humans, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
but for animals as well. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
Watch this. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:25
Animals that live in parts
of America that are never affected | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
by the cold have been pretty
surprised by what happened. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
Check out these iguana. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
They've been stunned by the cold. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
Cold-blooded animals
are used to warm climates. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Now they can't get warm at all. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
Don't worry though,
they weren't hurt. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:37
Once the temperature gets back
to around 15 degrees, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
their blood will warm up
and they will start | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
to function properly. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
And over in Texas, 500 sea turtles
have had to be rescued. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
They all came to shore
after the water left them freezing. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
They will be kept cosy at a recovery
centre until they are well | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
enough to go back to sea. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
But not all animals have
seen the chilly sight. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
These guys are loving the snow -
check out this horse rolling around. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
And this dog loves to go sledging
around so he carried his own sledge | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
to the top and down he goes! | 0:03:01 | 0:03:11
Plans to create a new
Northern Forest stretching | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
accross the UK from Liverpool
to Hull have been announced. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
The plan is to plant
thousands of trees along a belt | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
taking in the cities of Manchester,
Leeds and Bradford. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
It will see new woods planted
near towns and river | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
valleys liable to flooding. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
The Woodland Trust is running
the project, which will cost | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
£500 million over 25 years. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:38
Do you worry about how
you look or how many likes | 0:03:38 | 0:03:40
you get on social media? | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
Well, a report this week says that
at secondary school this becomes | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
a lot more important
to kids like you. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:47
Here's what some of you
guys thought about it. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:56
The biggest change is probably how
much people use it and how many | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
people actually use
it in the school. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
People, like, think it's a lot
cooler to actually use social | 0:04:02 | 0:04:06
media now rather than,
like, in year six. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:13
Social media really impacts you,
and the way you look, and want to | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
come across. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:17
Especially in secondary school. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
So there is a lot more pressure
in secondary school to get | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
likes and followers. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:30
In secondary school,
I think people are a lot | 0:04:30 | 0:04:33
more conscious of what they post
and how it looks and just the things | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
that they say or do on it. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
For me, it's not that
much of a pressure, | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
because I don't really
care what people think. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
Everybody in high school,
if they see you and they see | 0:04:43 | 0:04:49
you're on Instagram,
they'll try to follow you. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:51
Not everybody, but most people. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:52
Because they just
want to get followers. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:57
In secondary school,
there's a lot of | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
insecurities about looks and the way
you dress and come to school, | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03
because on social media it's kind
of showing how you should look. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:08
People think that you need
the likes, to get, like, | 0:05:08 | 0:05:10
fame in the school. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
There is more pressure
to be looking good | 0:05:13 | 0:05:15
on social media when you're older,
because you've got more pressure on | 0:05:15 | 0:05:19
your appearance. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:20
People think that they should
look better when they're | 0:05:20 | 0:05:22
older. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
In primary school, we had just one
or two social medias, I | 0:05:24 | 0:05:33
wasn't really aware what the dangers
where, but now and in secondary | 0:05:33 | 0:05:38
school and people have talked
about it a lot more. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:47
I've had a lot more talks
with my parents and with | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
school, talking about the dangers
of other people that you don't know | 0:05:49 | 0:05:52
following you. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:53
That's it from us guys,
Newsround's back at 14:15. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:56
Head online for the rest
of the day's stories. | 0:05:56 | 0:06:00 |
