Hello, morning, everyone.

0:00:040:00:06

I'm Leah, with Monday's Newsround.

0:00:060:00:08

On the way today.

0:00:080:00:10

We've got all the latest from the storm that's flooded parts

0:00:100:00:12

of the UK.

0:00:120:00:22

Let's start by talking about the major storm that's flooded

0:00:300:00:32

houses, closed schools, and even forced roads to

0:00:320:00:34

crumble in the north of England.

0:00:340:00:36

These pictures show the effect Storm Desmond has had

0:00:360:00:40

since it hit parts of Cumbria and Lancashire, as well as some

0:00:400:00:43

areas of Scotland over the weekend.

0:00:430:00:45

Tens of thousands of people have no electricity,

0:00:450:00:47

and at least 20 schools are shut.

0:00:470:00:48

Here's Ricky with more.

0:00:480:00:55

In some parts of the country, a month's worth of rain fell

0:00:550:00:58

in just 24 hours.

0:00:580:01:02

Flooding has forced thousands of people from their homes

0:01:020:01:04

in Cumbria in north-west England.

0:01:040:01:07

Strong winds have also made it dangerous for drivers too.

0:01:070:01:11

Police in Cumbria declared a major incident, as the River Kent

0:01:110:01:13

in Kendal burst its banks.

0:01:130:01:16

In Keswick, the British Red Cross set up special

0:01:160:01:18

centres for people looking for somewhere to stay for the night.

0:01:180:01:22

And fire crews used small boats to rescue people, as water levels rose.

0:01:220:01:26

It's not the first time people here have been affected by flooding.

0:01:260:01:35

Five years ago, heavy rain caused even more damage.

0:01:350:01:37

Flooding and landslides also brought disruption to Scotland, especially

0:01:370:01:40

in the Borders and Tayside.

0:01:400:01:46

Already this morning, the clean-up operation has swung into action.

0:01:460:01:48

The weather is expected to be drier this afternoon, but people are still

0:01:480:01:52

being told to take extra care.

0:01:520:02:01

Well, the BBC's Sarah Corker has been in one of the worst hit places,

0:02:010:02:04

Carlisle, and explained what things are like this morning.

0:02:040:02:06

Emergency services here have been working through

0:02:060:02:09

the night to rescue people trapped in their homes here in Carlisle.

0:02:090:02:16

If I show you over here, there is still a lot of water,

0:02:160:02:20

the road remains blocked.

0:02:200:02:22

Many of the routes here are still only passable by boat.

0:02:220:02:26

You can see water levels starting to recede slowly.

0:02:260:02:36

People will be waking up in reception centres across Cumbria

0:02:360:02:38

today, and what they will be wanting to do is to get back here to assess

0:02:380:02:42

just how bad the damage is.

0:02:420:02:49

There's more on the floods on our website, and we'll have more

0:02:490:02:51

back here in half-an-hour.

0:02:510:02:55

Sport now, and straight to the Premier League,

0:02:550:02:57

because Newcastle got a much-needed 2-0 home win over Liverpool.

0:02:570:03:00

Georginio Wijnaldum scored one, and forced an own goal,

0:03:000:03:02

to take Newcastle above Sunderland into 18th.

0:03:020:03:05

It was just the second loss for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

0:03:050:03:12

When most of us run low on basic groceries, we can normally

0:03:120:03:14

just nip out to the local shop.

0:03:140:03:16

But things aren't so simple in space.

0:03:160:03:19

An unmanned rocket has lifted off from Cape Canaveral full

0:03:190:03:21

of over 3,000 kilograms of food and clothes for astronauts

0:03:210:03:23

on the International Space Station.

0:03:230:03:25

Supplies are running low, after several failed delivery runs

0:03:250:03:27

and botched launches.

0:03:270:03:37

Wondering what's to look forward to over Christmas at the movies and

0:03:370:03:40

on TV?

0:03:400:03:41

Well, wonder no more.

0:03:410:03:42

Here's Ricky and film fan Colin Paterson, with all you need to know!

0:03:420:03:45

It is that time of year again when there is so much great stuff to

0:03:450:03:49

see at the cinema and on TV.

0:03:490:03:51

It can be really difficult to know what to watch.

0:03:510:03:53

Colin.

0:03:580:03:58

Hello.

0:03:580:03:58

Fancy seeing you here.

0:03:580:04:01

There is so much to look forward to over Christmas.

0:04:010:04:03

Let us start with the big one.

0:04:030:04:06

Christmas comes early if you are a Star Wars fan.

0:04:070:04:11

The 17th of December, The Force Awakens.

0:04:110:04:15

30 years after Return Of The Jedi, they are all there, Han Solo,

0:04:150:04:18

Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia.

0:04:180:04:21

What if sci-fi isn't your bag of popcorn?

0:04:210:04:26

If you liked Ice Age, the team behind that have made The Peanuts

0:04:260:04:29

Movie. Based on Charlie Brown.

0:04:290:04:30

His dog Snoopy is his trusty companion,

0:04:300:04:35

tries to help him along, and taking on his arch enemy the Red Baron.

0:04:350:04:39

A lot of parents will take their kids to this one

0:04:390:04:42

because they really want to see it.

0:04:420:04:46

That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half-an-hour.
