Hey, Whitney here.

0:00:120:00:14

It's Wednesday and

this is Newsround.

0:00:140:00:15

Your top stories today...

0:00:150:00:17

First, to a refugee swimmer whose

story is so amazing,

0:00:170:00:19

it's now being made in to a film.

0:00:190:00:21

I've been finding out

all about Yusra Mardini.

0:00:210:00:30

Yusra competed as a swimmer

at the Rio Olympics last year.

0:00:300:00:33

But less than a year before that,

she was forced to leave her home

0:00:330:00:37

in Syria because of the war.

0:00:370:00:42

When they were telling me that I'm

leaving to the Olympics,

0:00:420:00:44

I was also really surprised.

0:00:440:00:49

After only one year, I'm a refugee

in Germany and I'm going.

0:00:490:00:52

And there was a

Refugee Olympic Team.

0:00:520:00:54

It was incredible.

0:00:540:00:55

She had a great time

and took part as a member

0:00:550:00:57

of the first ever Team Refugee.

0:00:570:00:59

But Yusra's life hasn't

always been this much fun.

0:00:590:01:03

It took her 25 days to travel

from Syria to Europe.

0:01:030:01:06

Part of that journey was in a boat.

0:01:060:01:11

When it began to sink,

she got into the sea,

0:01:110:01:14

along with her sister,

and helped save 19

0:01:140:01:15

others who were onboard.

0:01:150:01:21

The hero was pulling

a rope, you know.

0:01:210:01:25

It's OK, I helped the boat.

0:01:250:01:27

It was not only me,

or only my sister.

0:01:270:01:30

But you can imagine that they told

you it's 45-minutes trip,

0:01:300:01:32

and you stayed three hours

and a half.

0:01:320:01:34

She now lives in Germany

and is training for the next

0:01:340:01:37

Olympics, which will be

in Tokyo, in 2020.

0:01:370:01:39

My ambition is just

to be an athlete.

0:01:390:01:41

If I'm going to start

for Germany, or for my country,

0:01:410:01:45

or for the Refugee Olympic Team,

I'm going to do the best I can

0:01:450:01:48

and it will be my pleasure.

0:01:480:01:50

Now a film's being made

telling her incredible story.

0:01:500:01:53

Let's hope she gets some time

at the pool to watch it!

0:01:530:02:01

Let's hope she gets some time out

of the pool to watch it!

0:02:010:02:05

Next, if you happen to be

in Japan over the weekend,

0:02:050:02:07

you may get to see a couple

of shooting stars -

0:02:070:02:10

but they're stars with a difference.

0:02:100:02:11

A company is making their own

by releasing metal particles

0:02:110:02:14

from a tiny satelite,

which will then burn up as they

0:02:140:02:16

enter the Earth's atmosphere.

0:02:160:02:17

If everything goes to plan,

the organisers of the 2020

0:02:170:02:20

Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games

will feature the man-made shooting

0:02:200:02:22

stars at the opening ceremony.

0:02:220:02:29

Cool!

0:02:290:02:33

So, I want to know -

how many of you love using an emoji?

0:02:330:02:36

My personal fave is the heart one.

0:02:360:02:39

But have you ever wondered

who decides which ones you get

0:02:390:02:42

to have on your phone or tablet?

0:02:420:02:44

Well, we went to meet one woman

who's got that very job.

0:02:440:02:53

My name is Jennifer 8.

Lee.

0:02:530:02:54

I'm part of a group that helps

to decide the world's emojis.

0:02:540:02:57

What are the things in our

world that are important

0:02:570:02:59

enough to be an emoji?

0:02:590:03:01

So, are dinosaurs important

enough to be emojis?

0:03:010:03:03

What kind of dinosaurs?

0:03:030:03:09

Certain emoji, like mosquito emoji,

is really important,

0:03:090:03:11

because it allows you to communicate

the ideas of danger

0:03:110:03:13

without having to know

every single language -

0:03:130:03:17

because everyone

recognises mosquitoes.

0:03:170:03:21

Some people think that people use

emoji because they're really lazy.

0:03:210:03:23

But if you think about it,

the reason people love emojis

0:03:230:03:26

so much is that it's a really fast,

simple way to communicate ideas,

0:03:260:03:29

and it allows people who don't

speak the same language

0:03:290:03:31

to communicate using emoji.

0:03:310:03:32

Sometimes, emoji are really clear.

0:03:320:03:34

But sometimes, it can

be really confusing

0:03:340:03:35

what the other person means.

0:03:350:03:37

And some people don't like that.

0:03:370:03:41

And other people think that's

what make emoji fun.

0:03:410:03:44

In different cultures, people can

give the emoji their own meaning.

0:03:440:03:47

In Japanese, this is

how you say thank you.

0:03:470:03:52

But in America - and,

sometimes, the West -

0:03:520:03:54

this looks like people praying.

0:03:540:03:56

And some people actually think it

looks like a high-five.

0:03:560:03:58

So, you can actually have very

different interpretations

0:03:580:04:00

of the different emojis.

0:04:000:04:08

What a cool job!

0:04:080:04:10

So, this was Andy Murray's first

match since the Wimbledon

0:04:100:04:12

quarter-finals which he lost,

but there was plenty

0:04:120:04:14

of fun to be had.

0:04:140:04:15

That's Murray, in the ginger wig,

at a charity event in Glasgow.

0:04:150:04:18

Federer joined in, and played -

and won - in a kilt.

0:04:180:04:22

It's also been announced that Andy's

wife, Kim, has given birth

0:04:220:04:25

to the couple's second daughter.

0:04:250:04:26

No news on the name yet!

0:04:260:04:30

Congratulations.

0:04:300:04:32
