Hi, I'm Leah with the top stories this Thursday morning.

The kids seeing animals in the wild for the first time...

The treasure hunter who struck gold...

And Blue Peter's Iggy leaves the show to become a guide dog.

First up, you might be heading for a day in the classroom,

but in South Africa some kids from cities and poor areas have been

One, two, three! Respect yourself,

respect each other! Here in South Africa,

these kids are learning to respect their environment

and the animals that live in it. It's part of a special

project to teach kids more about African wildlife

and the effects of poaching. In this country, elephants

are poached for their tusks and at least one rhino is killed

every day for their horn. Poachers take them because they can

be sold for huge amounts of money to Asian countries

like China and Vietnam. Some people living there use

the tusks and horns to make ornaments and believe

they have special powers, which scientists say isn't true.

The programme is about inspiring kids to care.

It's everything that we're trying to do is bring kids out

into the bush and give them an opportunity to experience

wildlife in order for them to start to develop a relationship with them

in order for them to care about them.

Kids taking part play sports and have special lessons to learn

about animals and most importantly get to spot them in the wild.

I really want to see a lion because I want to see their teeth,

they're really sharp. I wish to see the

beautiful big animals. I've never seen the big

animals in the world. I want to see the white

rhino because it protects animals that it defends.

These kids are heading out on their first Safari.

Many have not seen creatures like elephants or rhinos before.

Normally we don't see rhinos in part of our areas.

It's exciting, I've never seen a rhino

before so it's exciting. I've never seen a giraffe before.

It's hoped this experience will be inspire these kids to take an active

role in protecting animals and the environment in the future.

Blue Peter fans watching will know that today Iggy is leaving

to start life as a full time Guide Dog.

Iggy joined the show two years ago when she was just a pup and she's

had lots of adventures on the show and with presenter Lindsey.

But now it's time for her to start life as a guide dog.

Lindsey joins me in the studio now, along with Iggy's new owner Callum.

Morning to you both. What brilliant news. Callum, to you first of all,

how did you get matched to Iggy? I applied in June last year for guide

dogs and then they did all the usual processes, working out care skills,

working on fruits and that sort of things, and then I coupled on the

waiting list in a few months later here I am with Iggy. Had it you feel

when you were told it's a blue Peter dot? I didn't know, I was quite

surprised. I was really surprised. They tell you both of information

about the dog and then at the end, one other little thing, this dog has

been on Bloop Peter for a couple of years, are you up for media

attention? And your coping fine. Two years or your life with his

beautiful dog, Lindsay, what we miss the most about her? Oh, I'll miss

loads about her. We've had a brilliant journey on Blue Peter,

shall come in and sniff around, say hello to all the cameramen, we gave

her a bath in the studio once, I think there was footage of it there.

I will miss her being lovely and a bit mischievous, isn't she? Yes,

there is a cheeky side! What kinds of things that she get up to? Around

the house? Yes. Her favourite game when left alone in the house is to

our trainers or slippers and hide it somewhere. That's something we often

come home to. You're like, where do I put my other shoe? Oh Iggy has it.

Now to Britain's largest ever gold nugget discovery found off the coast

Vincent found it four years ago but has only just revealed details

The area where it was found has been searched again in case there's any

more gold because it's thought it was part of a ?120 million

Going to the dentist is never fun for us but treating elephants

Experts at a zoo in Bedfordshire realised something was wrong

with Looka when she wasn't eating her food.

A human dentist was called in to help and he removed the tooth.

She's been doing very well, we're told.
