Hi, I'm Ricky, It's Friday, and this is Newsround. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Orangutans rescued from fires in Indonesia. | :00:00. | :00:11.
And we introduce you to this cool rider. | :00:12. | :00:24.
Not only is it Friday today but it's also the BBC's big Children | :00:25. | :00:27.
The show has been presented by Sir Terry Wogan since it started | :00:28. | :00:36.
in 1980, 35 years ago, but for the first time he won't be | :00:37. | :00:39.
He's had to pull out because of back problems | :00:40. | :00:50.
to a magnificent cause", from home and "cheering and donating | :00:51. | :00:54.
It's not all bad news though as there will | :00:55. | :00:56.
still be lots going on throughout today. | :00:57. | :00:58.
There'll be lots of Pudsey action, exclusive performances | :00:59. | :01:00.
and Radio 1 host Scott Mills will attempt to abseil | :01:01. | :01:02.
Bruce Forsyth returns with a special Children In Need Strictly | :01:03. | :01:06.
All the action kicks off from 7pm on BBC One. | :01:07. | :01:10.
So we asked some of you how some of you will be marking the day. | :01:11. | :01:16.
In my school we are dressing up to raise money. It is like a time for | :01:17. | :01:28.
us to give money for the children that don't have the good things we | :01:29. | :01:32.
do. Getting to help people by dressing up in donating money. It's | :01:33. | :01:38.
an important day, and it is like remembrance, because all of those | :01:39. | :01:41.
people around the world don't have the opportunity that we do to have a | :01:42. | :01:44.
good education and go to a good school. | :01:45. | :01:47.
Schools across the Western Isles and Shetland in Scotland will all be | :01:48. | :01:49.
Many roads have been closed and winds of up to 90 miles per hour | :01:50. | :01:54.
are expected causing possible damage to houses. | :01:55. | :01:56.
Heavy rain is also expected and may cause some flooding. | :01:57. | :01:58.
BBC weather reporter Simon King has sent us this report | :01:59. | :02:01.
We sometimes get some pretty big storms in the UK, and recently the | :02:02. | :02:14.
UK and Irish weather service decided to start naming them. You might see | :02:15. | :02:18.
your name pop up, but we had our first one, Abigail, which moved | :02:19. | :02:23.
towards Scotland on Thursday night and this morning and you can see | :02:24. | :02:28.
right at the top there, in Scotland, some very strong winds expected | :02:29. | :02:31.
across northern and western areas and there could be some problems | :02:32. | :02:35.
first thing on Friday morning. For all of us, quite windy day on | :02:36. | :02:39.
Friday, but the strong winds will continue in the far north of | :02:40. | :02:44.
Scotland on Friday accompanied by heavy rain. There is mounting snow | :02:45. | :02:47.
on Friday and it will feel pretty cold as well. -- mountain snow. | :02:48. | :02:50.
Next to the country of Indonesia in south-east Asia, where forest | :02:51. | :02:53.
As well as the damage to the environment | :02:54. | :02:56.
and the effects on people's health, the fires are also threatening rare | :02:57. | :02:59.
This is no ordinary fire. Great areas of Indonesia are burning, and | :03:00. | :03:14.
it is causing big problems for people and animals. Many apes have | :03:15. | :03:18.
been forced to flee their Forest homes and head to villages in search | :03:19. | :03:23.
of food, but many locals see them as pests. This can lead to an increase | :03:24. | :03:29.
in attacks on the animals. This rare orangutan from Borneo and her baby | :03:30. | :03:33.
were treated by an animal rescue team after trying to escape the | :03:34. | :03:37.
wildfires. The two apes were eventually released back into the | :03:38. | :03:42.
wild safely. The haze caused by fires has been poisoning the air | :03:43. | :03:46.
across Southeast Asia for weeks now. More than 100,000 people in | :03:47. | :03:49.
Indonesia are said to be suffering from breathing problems. Fires | :03:50. | :03:56.
happen every year in Indonesia, but unusually dry weather has made this | :03:57. | :04:00.
year's even worse than normal. A team of firefighters in one part of | :04:01. | :04:04.
the country now being helped by elephants trained to carry hoses and | :04:05. | :04:11.
water pumps. We are now using elephants trained to patrol in the | :04:12. | :04:13.
jungle in order to put out Forest fires early and stop them from | :04:14. | :04:22.
burning. Many of the fires are started illegally to clear land to | :04:23. | :04:26.
grow new plants. Most are set ablaze on peat land which burns for longer | :04:27. | :04:30.
and produces more smoke than other fires. With rain expected here | :04:31. | :04:35.
soon, the fires could be put out in the next month. | :04:36. | :04:37.
at Otto, the brilliant bulldog. He's set a new Guinness World Record for | :04:38. | :04:42.
Otto passed through the legs of 30 people before being | :04:43. | :04:52.
That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour. | :04:53. | :04:55. |
