Hi, I'm Ricky with Newsround and lots to talk about this morning. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
Another great night for Great Britain on the final day | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
of the World Athletics Championships. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:16
They were flapping about going, "Mah, mah!" | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
And bat watch! | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
We meet the kids who are spotting bats in their new home. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:32
Good Monday morning. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
Let's start with the World Athletics Championships which came to end | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
in London last night. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
Two more medals for Great Britain. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
Britain's 4x400 metres women won a brilliant silver | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
and the GB men got bronze. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
It means they finished sixth on the medal table. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:51
Star of the show and athletics legend Usain Bolt said goodbye | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
to the crowds and almost cried after his last ever race. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
The Jamaican runner is retiring after winning | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
eight Olympic gold medals. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
This is what he had to say. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:08
I personally feel this is a good message to the kids that work hard, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
be strong and let's push on, you know what I mean? | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
And, for me, if I can leave something like that | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
to the younger generation, that with hard work, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
no matter what's going on, you can be the best that you can be, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
then that's a good legacy to leave. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
Footy now and the world's most expensive player, Neymar, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
played his first game for French side Paris Saint Germain. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
The ?200 million player scored this exciting goal his first | 0:01:33 | 0:01:39
for the team and they beat rival French club Guingamp 3-0. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:43
So far he's proving the investment was worth it. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:49
Now to Charlottesville, a city in Virginia in the US, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
where there's been trouble after protests there. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:58
Have | 0:01:58 | 0:01:58 | |
Have a | 0:01:58 | 0:01:58 | |
Have a look | 0:01:58 | 0:01:58
Have a look at | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
Have a look at this. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
The trouble started when white supremacists, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
who believe that white people are better than other races, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
planned a protest. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
That's because a statue of someone they think | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
shared their views was being removed from a university. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Violence broke out when antiracism groups started | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
to protest against them. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
A man drove a car into the antiracism protesters. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
One woman was killed and many others were injured. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:21
Emergency services arrived quickly to help | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
and a man has now been arrested. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:28
US President Donald Trump has condemned the violence. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:33
The hate and the division must stop and must stop right now. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:38
We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
and true affection and, really, I say this so strongly, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:46
true affection for each other. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:51
It's been a weekend of protest marked by violence and it's | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
shown once again that the US is divided over the issue of race. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
It's also served as a test for the US's | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
fairly new president Donald Trump. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
In the past he's been supported by white nationalists, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
people said that he didn't do enough to criticise the white nationalists | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
who organised this weekend's events. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
Over the next few days, people will be looking to see | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
if there's any more demonstrations and what, if anything, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
President Trump has to say about those. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:21
And if you want to know more about what's happening in the US | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
with those protests, check the website. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
There are lots of other stories too, including why the weather | 0:03:27 | 0:03:37
for some of you during the summer holidays has been so rubbish. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
Whether you love bats or not, | 0:03:40 | 0:03:42
most of us probably wouldn't want to live with a load of them. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
But some churches are letting these little guys make themselves at home | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
in buildings like this. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:49
Sound a bit batty? | 0:03:49 | 0:03:50
Here's Ayshah. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:51
It might be a bit cold and draughty but for bats it is one of their | 0:03:51 | 0:03:55
favourite places to make a home. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:56
And these kids have come to this church | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
in Norfolk to find out all about the bats that live here. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
I've been around and seen two of these, like, | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
tiny bats that were flapping about going like, "Mah, mah!" | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
I saw two of the small bats, I saw a flapper bat. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
I like bats because they can hang upside down. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
I like bats because they fly around. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:17
But they're not always the easiest animals to live with. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
And the people that own churches are worried that the bats | 0:04:20 | 0:04:27
are damaging these very old buildings, with the bats' wee | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
leaving little white spots like this on gravestones. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:33
So they might not be the most welcome guests | 0:04:33 | 0:04:35
but it's actually really important to protect these bats. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:37
Bat populations over a number of years have been declining, | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
hopefully we've stopped that. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
But churches are one of the most important buildings in | 0:04:44 | 0:04:46
the countryside that bats can use. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:51
Luckily for the bats, this church is happy to let them | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
stay in the church roof for now, but they're building | 0:04:54 | 0:04:56
special bat boxes outside the church for them to live in in the future, | 0:04:56 | 0:05:01
so they don't make any more mess inside. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:05
And a special project called Bats In Churches is asking other | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
places of worship to do the same. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:14
BIG BEN STRIKES THE HOUR | 0:05:14 | 0:05:18
That's a familiar sound, but come next Monday Big Ben | 0:05:18 | 0:05:28
won't chime for several months. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:32
It's for repair work. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:33
The bells will still ring on special days, | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
but will be silent for only the third time in 150 years. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
A satellite from Nasa has started the final steps to ending its | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
13-year mission at Saturn. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:42
It's started a series of "ultra-close" journeys | 0:05:42 | 0:05:43
through the planet's atmosphere. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45
Scientists are hoping it will reveal more | 0:05:45 | 0:05:46
about what the planet is made of. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:48
The satellite will take lots of pictures so we can take a closer | 0:05:48 | 0:05:51
look at what's happening there. | 0:05:51 | 0:05:58
So that's what's going on in and around your world. | 0:05:58 | 0:06:00
We'll be back with plenty more this afternoon! | 0:06:00 | 0:06:04
I love...The Next Step! | 0:06:06 | 0:06:09
It is amazing. | 0:06:09 | 0:06:11 |
