Hi, Ayshah here with
the latest from Newsround. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
Coming up... | 0:00:08 | 0:00:09
The boy who's bananas about birds. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
Plus Elsa lends a hand in the snow. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:18
First, in America students have
walked out of their schools | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
to protest gun violence. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
It's after an attack in Florida
which happened one month ago. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
Here's what they did. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
End gun violence! | 0:00:36 | 0:00:37
No more violence! | 0:00:37 | 0:00:43
These are the chants of thousands
of American students who walked out | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
of their classrooms. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
Enough is enough! | 0:00:48 | 0:00:48
Enough is enough! | 0:00:48 | 0:00:52
This Snapmap shows just how
many kids were sharing | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
videos of the event. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:59
There were 3000 demonstrations
across the US in major | 0:00:59 | 0:01:04
cities like New York,
Chicago and the city where | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
the latest school shooting happened,
Parkland in Florida. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:11
Now when people think of Parkland
they're not only going to think | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
of the 17 beautiful people
that we lost, they're | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
going to think of the change
that the rest of us have sparked. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
We want change! | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
We want change! | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
We're marching against the Parkland
shooting that happened in Florida | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
and so we believe that it's really
cruel and it shouldn't | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
have happened. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
People should be confident
when you come to school. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
You shouldn't worry about getting
hurt, getting injured. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
School should be a safe place, it
should be like a second home to you. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
In order to get our stronger message
across we needed to hold it | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
here where everybody gets to hear
that we are together, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
we are one, we are with Florida. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
At the end of the day,
we just want our schools to be safe. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
We think that people get guns too
easily and because of the school | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
shooting that happened a couple
of weeks ago, that | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
was just not right. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
I am inspired and empowered
by each and everyone | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
of you who has walked out today! | 0:02:01 | 0:02:06
And I'm a survivor. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
The White House have released
details of their plans to help | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
with this issue including training
teachers and school staff | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
in how to use firearms. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:20
But many of the students protesting
want more and they will march again | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
on the 24th of this month
to the capital city, Washington DC, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:28
where the president lives,
in an event called March For Our | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
Lives. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
Next, ever thought about becoming
a journalist like me? | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
Lots of you have been having
a go at doing just that | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
for School Report News Day. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:45
It's a BBC journalism project
which encourages kids to learn | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
about the news and to find
and make your own news stories. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:53
One thing School Report is focusing
on this year is fake news. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
Head online to see what some
students had to say about it. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
And while you're there,
it might sound like fake news | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
but I promise it's real -
space ports are coming to the UK! | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
Check it out. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
Next, Colombia in South America has
the biggest number of bird | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
species on the planet. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
And one ten-year-old has made
it his mission to find them all. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:18
There is one. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
And another. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
That's a beautiful one. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:26
Juan from Colombia has
a passion for finding birds. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:32
TRANSLATION: In three years I've
seen 491 species of bird. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
491? | 0:03:35 | 0:03:40 | |
Not bad at all, but in the Colombian
jungle, there are reportedly | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
1,920 different species,
so how does he go | 0:03:44 | 0:03:46
about spotting them? | 0:03:46 | 0:03:52
He paces through the Colombian
jungle with a pair of binoculars | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
and parents in tow... | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
and has a special book
to identify what they are. | 0:03:57 | 0:04:03
TRANSLATION: Their colours -
some species have pretty colours - | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
and also by their behaviour,
how they hunt. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:10
So, he has seen 491 birds. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
Is he giving up any time soon? | 0:04:13 | 0:04:17
No, he has set his sights on seeing
all of them in the jungle, | 0:04:17 | 0:04:21
and then he wants to see
all the birds in the world! | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
What a big dream. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
Finally, it's just as well
that the cold doesn't bother her, | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
because Elsa's been spotted helping
out in the snow. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:36
When this police van got stuck
after heavy blizzards | 0:04:36 | 0:04:40
in Boston in the US,
a man dressed up as the Frozen | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
favourite became an unexpected hero. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:45
He stepped out into the cold to help
the vehicle get moving. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Looks pretty chilly to me! | 0:04:48 | 0:04:49
Don't "let it go"! | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
That's all for today. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
Have a great evening. | 0:04:54 | 0:05:00 |
