Hi, I'm Hayley. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:04
Coming up on Newsround: | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
From the girl who's beating the boys
to the finishing line... | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
..to the guy breaking
records in the snow. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:18
First to the Philippines,
a country in south-east Asia. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
A huge volcano there is erupting,
but it's not a usual eruption. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:31
Whitney's been finding out more. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
This is Mount Mayon, the most active
volcano in the Philippines. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:39
Scientists say what's happening
at the moment | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
is called a quiet eruption. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
There is no big explosion. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
Instead, the lava is flowing
out slowly and quietly. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
It's still dangerous but people
don't always realise it | 0:00:50 | 0:00:54
because it's not as dramatic, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
so even though 15,000 people living
nearby have left their homes, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
lots of other people still haven't. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
The volcano erupted 50 times
in the last 500 years | 0:01:03 | 0:01:08
and lies in what is known
as the Ring of Fire. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
That's an area around the
Pacific Ocean where earthquakes | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
and volcano eruptions are common. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
But now the authorities believe
things are about to get worse. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
It's expected to change from a quiet
eruption to an explosive one. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:27
If that happens,
no one will be allowed | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
to stay in the area
until the danger has passed. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:34
Now when you think of racing
drivers who are the names | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
that spring to mind? | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel,
Fernando Alonso maybe? | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
One thing these guys
all have in common | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
is that they're, well, guys, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
but Newsround recently went to catch
up with one woman who's | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
looking to change that. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:52
This is Jamie Chadwick. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
She started motor
racing when she was 11. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
Aged 17, she became
the first woman | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
and the youngest driver to win
the British GT championship | 0:01:59 | 0:02:04
and now she's racing in Formula 3. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
So, what is she doing today? | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Taking me for a drive, of course. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
Jamie, I'm really scared. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
Am I going to be all right? | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
You'll be fine. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
Are you sure? | 0:02:17 | 0:02:18
Trust me, the last few people
I've taken out haven't dealt | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
with it well at all. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
There's been fainting,
passing out, but... | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
Jamie! | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
I trust you'll be fine. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
Oh, good. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
Are you ready? | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
It's exciting. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
Yeah, so this is Silverstone. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
It's the home of
British motor sport. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
It's where they have the Grand Prix. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
We're going to go on the circuit
they do the F1 at, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
which is really cool. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
Yeah, coming out
onto the circuit now. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
Oh, my gosh! | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
It's so fast! | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
How did you realise you had
a passion for racing? | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
I guess before, I didn't really
follow motorsport that much. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:55
So I didn't really know much
about it, but as soon | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
as I first got in a go-kart, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
it was like, pretty
much, that was me done. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
That's exactly what I wanted to do. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
Oh, I love this. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
What would it be like
if you got into Formula 1? | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
I think an absolute
dream come true, really. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
It's what you always work
for, it's what I think | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
I really want to achieve,
it is what sets the bar | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
for every young driver. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
You want to be there, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:21
you want to be racing
against the greats. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
You want to be
the best in the world. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
Do you want me to do
a faster lap, or...? | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
Yeah, go on then. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:31
OK. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32 | |
This is so fast! | 0:03:32 | 0:03:38
Oh, my gosh! | 0:03:38 | 0:03:43
It's so fast! | 0:03:43 | 0:03:48
Jamie, that was so much fun. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
I've got helmet hair, though. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:51
How do you get rid of that? | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
You don't. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:54
You just have it for life. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:55
You are such an amazing driver. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
Why do you think it's
so male-dominated, this sport, | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
and do you think it can
change in the future? | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
Yeah, I'm really
hoping it can change. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:03
Obviously, there aren't that many
women involved in the sport | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
at the moment,
but when people realise that | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
women can be involved,
women can be just as good as the men | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
if not better in my opinion,
I'm hoping more women get involved. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:19
On your marks, set, go! | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
Now you may have tried to run
really fast at your last | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
school sports day,
but this is another level. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
This runner ran the fastest mile
on Antarctica in temperatures | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
of minus 20 degrees! | 0:04:31 | 0:04:33
He broke the record just 650 miles
from the South Pole. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:37
The clock was stopped
at the seriously fast time | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
of 4 minutes 18 seconds. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
That's snow joke! | 0:04:43 | 0:04:49
Just enough time to tell you to head
online where we've got | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
the latest X Factor gossip. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:53
Which judge do you think
could be making a comeback? | 0:04:53 | 0:04:56
That's it from me. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:57
See ya! | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00 |
