We've got your Sunday afternoon stories covered,

:00:00.:00:00.

Coming up: We see some of your snowy pics.

:00:00.:00:09.

And the panda saying hello to the public for the first time.

:00:10.:00:23.

Did you wake up to snow this morning?

:00:24.:00:25.

Well, many of us did, including me, as it fell over parts of the UK.

:00:26.:00:30.

The band of snow moved across western Scotland,

:00:31.:00:32.

north-west England, the Midlands, and south-east England.

:00:33.:00:35.

And you've been sending in your snow pics all morning.

:00:36.:00:39.

Kate and Tom have sent this picture of a snowman they've made together.

:00:40.:00:44.

And this is the view on Lucy and Isobel's street.

:00:45.:00:48.

Here's a snow bear which Violeta has made, and this snowy pic has been

:00:49.:00:52.

And this is the view from Georgia's bedroom this morning.

:00:53.:01:02.

Thanks for sending those in, and we want to see more

:01:03.:01:04.

of your snowy pics - if it hasn't melted yet.

:01:05.:01:07.

:01:08.:01:11.

That's what a team of scientists are trying to find out

:01:12.:01:15.

This is a ship, heading to the middle of the Indian Ocean. The team

:01:16.:01:32.

on board are preparing to drill miles beneath the ocean floor.

:01:33.:01:36.

They've picture because they have's crust is thinner than in other

:01:37.:01:40.

places so it is easier to break through. It is a big challenge. Our

:01:41.:01:49.

Earth is made of layers. The scientist plan to sample the super

:01:50.:01:54.

hot rock from here. They will use this to lead more about how the

:01:55.:01:58.

Earth was formed by studying the rocks buried there. They also want

:01:59.:02:02.

to try and find out if there's anything that there that could

:02:03.:02:06.

survive such extreme heat and pressure. The drill needs a travel

:02:07.:02:12.

700 metres down through the sea, then 5.5 kilometres into rock,

:02:13.:02:17.

before reaching the mantle, the length of 50 football pitches. Even

:02:18.:02:21.

with the latest technology, it will take several years. It will take a

:02:22.:02:30.

lot of time until we can drill and get to the final subjective, a big

:02:31.:02:36.

finding. And of what we believe is going on under the planet.

:02:37.:02:39.

To a room full of hundreds of beautiful butterflies,

:02:40.:02:41.

s new glasshouse display has been built to house the creatures,

:02:42.:02:43.

It's filled with hundreds of butterflies.

:02:44.:02:49.

BBC Reporter Tarah Welsh went to have a look for us.

:02:50.:02:53.

People are encouraged to try spot butterflies as they walk through

:02:54.:03:00.

here, so they can users clip to see the different species. There are 40

:03:01.:03:05.

different types here, and of course in the summer you can see

:03:06.:03:10.

butterflies in the UK. You won't get them as large or exotic or with the

:03:11.:03:14.

bright colours that you will see an summer like this.

:03:15.:03:16.

More than 20 new marine conservation zones are being set up around

:03:17.:03:19.

They're designed to help protect the habitats and

:03:20.:03:22.

Conservation and wildlife organisations are pleased but they,

:03:23.:03:26.

along with fishermen's groups, are also concerned about how it

:03:27.:03:31.

It's the start of a year-long party for anyone who's a cub scout.

:03:32.:03:38.

That's because it's the 100th anniversary of the organisation.

:03:39.:03:41.

Celebrations will be happening throughout the year,

:03:42.:03:42.

and to kick things off, cubs from all over the UK went

:03:43.:03:45.

So why do these guys like being cubs?

:03:46.:03:54.

I believed I should join because my brother was in it and heat told me

:03:55.:04:01.

it was fun. Every week there are different ad ventures and you aren't

:04:02.:04:05.

doing the same border thing over again. You get this exciting feeling

:04:06.:04:09.

like you have done something well when you get a badge. All I want to

:04:10.:04:14.

do is get more barges than my brothers.

:04:15.:04:16.

It's that time of the week again, when we bring you the most weird

:04:17.:04:19.

Yes, it's strange, stranger, strangest!

:04:20.:04:23.

Take a look at this incredible footage of a soap bubble freezing at

:04:24.:04:33.

-15 degrees. The artist who made the video wanted to show his daughter

:04:34.:04:37.

how cold it was outside. Ice crystals in the water began to form,

:04:38.:04:42.

just like 2D snowflakes in a snow globe. Staying with that freezing

:04:43.:04:52.

feeling, have a look at this car in New York. The city was enjoying its

:04:53.:04:57.

warmest Christmas on record, but people living there facing ice and

:04:58.:05:02.

snow. The car was turned into a giant icicle as temperatures

:05:03.:05:10.

plummeted. And this has to be the strangest moment of the week.

:05:11.:05:15.

Astronaut impede showing us how you drink water in space. -- Tim Peake.

:05:16.:05:27.

You can see how water behaves. Which also means it is easier

:05:28.:05:32.

Last up, a new panda star has made its first appearance

:05:33.:05:38.

to his adoring public at the National Zoo in Washington,

:05:39.:05:40.

He's five months old and until now has only be seen by video link.

:05:41.:05:46.

But big crowds gathered to see him making his debut, and you can't

:05:47.:05:52.

That's all for now, I'll be back after 2.15.

:05:53.:05:59.
