And things don't always go to plan
for Team GB at the Winter Olympics. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:29
Let's start at the Winter Olympics,
and after a mega weekend of medals, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
Team GB are just one away
from their highest ever | 0:00:35 | 0:00:39
total at a winter Games. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
After a gold and two bronzes
on Saturday and Sunday, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:49
we've had some more great
performances overnight. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
If you are an Ice Stars fan,
check out Penny Coomes | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
and Nick Buckland who are through to
the final of the ice dancing. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
It's an amazing achievement
for Penny, who, less than two years | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
ago was told she may never skate
again after an injury. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
They now go on to tomorrow's
free skate where the | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
medals will be decided. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
There was success too
for Rowan Cheshire in | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
the freestyle skiing halfpipe. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
She missed out on the games four
years ago because of injury | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
but finished ninth to progress
to the next round. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
But it was a morning of frustration
for Britain's Aimee Fuller | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
in snowboarding's Big Air event. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
Her Olympics are over after she fell
on both her qualifying runs | 0:01:21 | 0:01:27
including this big crash
in her second attempt. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
Ouch! | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31 | |
She's absolutely fine but she's
got some big bruises. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:39
It was a big night for films
at the British Movie Awards - | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
the BAFTAs took place in London. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
The disney film Coco about a boy
who travels to the land of the dead | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
to visit his ancestors won the best
Animated Movie prize. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
Also on the night most of the stars
wore black outfits - | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
it's all part of a campaign
to support greater respect | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
for women and for equality
between men and women in movies. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:06
Here on Newsround we love hearing
about your inspirational stories, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
so we've travelled around
the country to hear some | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
of your inspiring stories. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
One of those we met was Jack ?
he struggled to learn to talk | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
when he was young but it was music
that really helped him. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Watch this. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
I have ADHD, dyspraxia and autism. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
I have problems
communicating with children. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
And making friends. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Hello. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
My name's Jack. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
I'm ten years old and when I was
little, I was not able to speak. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
And I had speech and
language therapy, but that | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
didn't really help me. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
I used to do head-banging
whenever I wanted something. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
I had to wear a red solid helmet. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
It was just so sad for me. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
I just hated it. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
My first music lesson,
a singing teacher was playing | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
the piano and then I started to sing
la la la. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:58
I was like, oh, my God! | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
I can speak! | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
But basically, I had to learn
a word by singing it, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
and then speaking it. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
So once I've got a word,
I've got it for basically like life. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
Music really relaxes me,
because when I'm getting | 0:03:10 | 0:03:14
all stressed, it's like someone's
putting a spell on me that I can, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
like, music makes me so happy. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
If there is any other children
like me who have problems speaking, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:26
find something that will relax
you like for example drawing | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
or music or anything
that will relax you. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:35
Now I start speaking, my mum says
I never stopped speaking. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:39
And I think that's because I need
to make up for all the years | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
when I wasn't speaking. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
And if you enjoyed that
and want to see more | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
stories like Jack's,
you can head over to Newsround | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
online and check these videos out. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:54
We've all got things
we like to do with our family, | 0:03:54 | 0:03:56
like having a meal together
or going for a walk. | 0:03:56 | 0:04:00
Well we've been to meet one
family who spend time | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
together, just clowning around. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:05
Have a look at this. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
There are three clowns in my family. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:16
I'm one of the luckiest fathers
alive to have the opportunity | 0:04:19 | 0:04:25
and the chance just to perform
and have a fantastic | 0:04:25 | 0:04:26
time with my family. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:31
I've seen the same routines Dad has
about a hundred million and one | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
times, but it's all right,
the girls really enjoy it, | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
and the girls have always got things
to show, and they're always really | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
proud of things that
they do with their dad. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
He rings bells or something. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:51
Sorry. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:52
I'm trying to do this! | 0:04:52 | 0:04:53
I'm trying to do it. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:55
I'm trying to do bells and... | 0:04:55 | 0:04:56
I'm very proud dad. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:58
More than proud. | 0:04:58 | 0:04:58
When I see them having fun
and enjoying themselves, | 0:04:58 | 0:05:03
and when I see people smiling,
I'm smiling and I'm having fun. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:07
Daddy. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
He is great, and he's funny,
and he does silly jokes. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:18
Now, Blackpool is known
for a its spectacular illuminations | 0:05:23 | 0:05:27
but something else has been lighting
up the sky over | 0:05:27 | 0:05:30
Blackpool this weekend. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:35
This amazing murmeration
of starlings swooped | 0:05:35 | 0:05:37
on the seaside town,
making on wonderful forms | 0:05:37 | 0:05:38
and shapes like giant waves
rising from the water. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
The birds gather together to keep
safe and warm and scientists think | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
they swap information
about where to find food. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
That's it from me. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:53
Martin is here at 4:20pm. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:57
Head online for all the rest
of the day's stories and test | 0:05:57 | 0:06:00 |
