Hi, I'm Martin, It's Monday,

and this is Newsround, live on CBBC.

0:00:100:00:13

Here's what's coming up

in the next few minutes...

0:00:130:00:15

We go to an elephant's

birthday party...

0:00:150:00:16

And we hear some of your stories,

in your own words.

0:00:160:00:24

First, though, to America,

and the school students

0:00:280:00:31

who are making headlines for the way

they're taking on

0:00:310:00:34

the issue of guns...

0:00:340:00:35

Ayshah has more.

0:00:350:00:37

I understand how scary an issue this

is, but I also need to point out

0:00:370:00:41

there were issues in the past

where great people

0:00:410:00:43

made great changes.

0:00:430:00:47

Is it right that it's so easy

to buy a gun in America?

0:00:470:00:51

That's the argument that's been

going on there for a long time.

0:00:510:00:54

Americans and guns go together.

0:00:540:00:56

I think it's more of a safety

thing than anything else,

0:00:560:00:59

especially due to recent events.

0:00:590:01:03

Last week, there was a shooting

in a school in Florida.

0:01:030:01:06

It was the 18th this year.

0:01:060:01:07

But what happened next

was a big surprise.

0:01:070:01:15

As well as going to vigils

and to prayer services,

0:01:160:01:18

pupils from the Florida school,

and the rest of America,

0:01:180:01:21

started speaking up.

0:01:210:01:23

Shame on you!

0:01:230:01:23

Shame on you!

0:01:230:01:26

Students are voicing

their opinions to the world.

0:01:260:01:28

They are the voice of change.

0:01:280:01:30

Not only are they are our

future, but right now

0:01:300:01:32

they are also our present.

0:01:320:01:33

I feel like no one listens to us

because we are kids.

0:01:330:01:36

I think we should have a voice, too.

0:01:360:01:38

How many more times does this have

to happen for them to do something?

0:01:380:01:42

It's ridiculous.

0:01:420:01:43

It's a shame, but I think it's kind

of fallen on the kids

0:01:430:01:46

to take care of this one.

0:01:460:01:48

Millennials are the ones that

are going to make the difference,

0:01:480:01:51

because we have so much information

at our fingertips, we are

0:01:510:01:53

relentless, we do not let things go.

0:01:530:01:57

Now the students are planning

a march to America's capital,

0:01:570:01:59

Washington, to tell politicians

they want controls on guns.

0:01:590:02:04

President Donald Trump,

who lives here in the White House,

0:02:040:02:07

says he doesn't want any more

controls on who can buy guns,

0:02:070:02:10

but next month, teenagers

from across America will march

0:02:100:02:12

here to say that not enough

is being done to keep them safe.

0:02:120:02:15

Still, many people in the US don't

want any changes to gun laws.

0:02:150:02:18

The march next month

will be a big event,

0:02:180:02:20

but we don't know whether it

will actually change anything.

0:02:200:02:28

OK, next up, here on Newsround

we love hearing about your amazing

0:02:300:02:37

lives, so we've travelled around

the country to hear some

0:02:370:02:39

of your inspiring stories.

0:02:390:02:40

One person we met was Jack ?

he struggled to learn to talk

0:02:400:02:43

when he was young but it was music

that really helped him.

0:02:430:02:46

Watch this.

0:02:460:02:49

I have ADHD, dyspraxia and autism.

0:02:490:02:52

I have problems

communicating with children.

0:02:520:02:55

And making friends.

0:02:550:02:57

Hello.

0:02:570:02:58

My name's Jack.

0:02:580:03:01

I'm ten years old and when I was

little, I was not able to speak.

0:03:010:03:04

And I had speech and

language therapy, but that

0:03:040:03:06

didn't really help me.

0:03:060:03:08

I used to do head-banging

whenever I wanted something.

0:03:080:03:11

I had to wear a red solid helmet.

0:03:110:03:14

It was just so sad for me.

0:03:140:03:16

I just hated it.

0:03:160:03:19

My first music lesson,

a singing teacher was playing

0:03:190:03:22

the piano and then I started to sing

la la la.

0:03:220:03:25

I was like, oh, my God!

0:03:250:03:27

I can speak!

0:03:270:03:30

But basically, I had to learn

a word by singing it,

0:03:300:03:33

and then speaking it.

0:03:330:03:35

So once I've got a word,

I've got it for basically like life.

0:03:350:03:38

Music really relaxes me,

because when I'm getting

0:03:380:03:40

all stressed, it's like someone's

putting a spell on me that I can,

0:03:400:03:43

like, music makes me so happy.

0:03:430:03:48

If there is any other children

like me who have problems speaking,

0:03:480:03:56

find something that will relax you,

like for example drawing,

0:03:560:03:59

or music or anything

that will relax you.

0:03:590:04:07

Now I start speaking,

my mum says I never stop speaking.

0:04:070:04:09

And I think that's because I need

to make up for all the years

0:04:090:04:13

when I wasn't speaking.

0:04:130:04:14

And if you enjoyed that

and want to see more

0:04:140:04:17

stories like Jack's,

you can head over to Newsround

0:04:170:04:19

online and check out

all these other videos.

0:04:190:04:22

Last up, meet Trompita -

it's her birthday and she's

0:04:240:04:26

celebrating in style.

0:04:260:04:28

She's 57 today,

and is having a party

0:04:280:04:30

at the Aurora Zoo in Guatemala.

0:04:300:04:34

She got a 6 foot pinyata,

a cake made of vegetables and fruit,

0:04:340:04:37

and a birthday song

from all the visitors!

0:04:370:04:41

Happy birthday, Trompita!

0:04:410:04:49

I have heard through the grapevine

that the number one thing she wants

0:04:490:04:52

for her birthday is a jumbo jet!

Rickie is back tomorrow morning at

0:04:520:04:58

740. Enjoy the rest of the

afternoon.
