Afternoon guys, Martin
here with your Monday | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
Newsround, live on CBBC. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
First up, we're heading to the US
and last night's Grammys music | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
awards where despite all the pop
superstars being there, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
Beyonce and Jay Z's six-year-old
daughter Blue Ivy stole the show! | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
Check her out telling
her mega famous parents | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
to stop clapping too much! | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
And guess what - they did! | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
The Grammys celebrate the best songs
and albums of the year. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
Bruno Mars was the big
winner with six awards! | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
Including best album. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:40
And song of the year
for That's What I Like! | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
Ed Sheeran won two awards. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
His huge smash Shape
of You bagged him best | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
pop solo performance. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
Ed, who recently got engaged,
wasn't at The Grammy's | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
to pick up his awards. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
Next, if we don't eat enough,
we run out of energy | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
pretty quickly, right? | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
That's because all of us use energy
from food, called calories, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
to keep us on the move. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
And if you think
you've got a plateful. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
You should see how much
dolphins need to munch. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:13
Felling peckish? If you have had an
active day, you might find your | 0:01:13 | 0:01:18
tummy rumbling. But well kids like
you are recommended to munch around | 0:01:18 | 0:01:23
1500 calories each day. You will
never guess how much dolphins need | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
to eat. New research has found that
our flippered friends need up to a | 0:01:26 | 0:01:32
whopping 33,000 calories a day! Wow!
That's 60 plates of salmon to me and | 0:01:32 | 0:01:39
you, and amazingly, that amount was
less than scientists expected. The | 0:01:39 | 0:01:45
amount of food a dolphin needs
varies depending on its size and | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
whether it's resting, sleeping,
diving or swimming. As well as the | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
temperature of the ocean. Looks like
this guy's working up an appetite. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
The study was carried out on
bottlenosed dolphins in Florida. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
They were captured for a short time
in order to be monitored by | 0:02:00 | 0:02:04
scientists who say the research will
help with conservation. I just hope | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
all that fish is providing enough
vitamin C. Get it, because they're | 0:02:08 | 0:02:13
in the C, the sea... Never mind. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:20
Next up, take a look at the piece
of kit that could be a massive help | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
for Great Britain's skiers
and snowboarders at the Winter | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Olympics which start
early next month. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
It's a giant airbag that sits
on the landing of a jump. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
At 60 metres long and 23 metres wide
it lets athletes try | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
all sorts of tricks,
spinning in different directions, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
without any real danger
of missing the landing. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
It allows Team GB athletes
to practice tricks that will help | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
them to compete on the World stage. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
And talking of snow and ice,
have you ever seen | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
anything like this before? | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
It's a frozen waterfall. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
It's been so cold in Romania that
a big chunk of the water running | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
over this cliff has turned
into what looks like | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
a solid ice sculpture. | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
Depending on the time of day,
the minerals in the water even make | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
the ice change colour! | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
Next up, you might have heard people
say money doesn't grow on trees. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:09
But what about inventing your own
money, and a bank to store it in! | 0:03:09 | 0:03:14
Well that's what these
kids have done. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:21
This school not only has its own
bank but it's the kids who're in | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
charge of running it. I love the
bank, it's my favourite job. Me | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
too... Every lunch time, their job
is to put their class mates' money | 0:03:28 | 0:03:33
into the bank. But it's not normal
money like pounds. It's a special | 0:03:33 | 0:03:42
currency they've invented call which
the students earn for doing well in | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
the classroom. I am the bank
manager. I need to look after the | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
money. Every lunch time, the class
can spend the money they've saved up | 0:03:51 | 0:03:57
in the school shop. I am Taylor and
I'm the assistant bank manager. I | 0:03:57 | 0:04:04
have to supervise the cashiers and
make sure no-one's mispaid. When we | 0:04:04 | 0:04:09
first started the project, we were
asking children where they thought | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
money comes from, they think it just
comes from a cash point which is why | 0:04:12 | 0:04:16
we introduced the idea of, you need
to work for your money and earn it | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
and then you are rewarded. So by
doing well in class, you can get the | 0:04:19 | 0:04:26
Kurts, save up and buy all this cool
stuff! Wow, maybe I'll start | 0:04:26 | 0:04:30
behaving myself for once. Look at
that teddy, how cute is that? ! | 0:04:30 | 0:04:39
That's it from me, Ricky's back
tomorrow at 7.40 but you can head | 0:04:39 | 0:04:44
online and check out the rest
of the days' stories there. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:51 |
