Morning, guys.

0:00:030:00:05

It's Tuesday, I'm Ricky

and this is Newsround.

0:00:050:00:07

Here's what's coming up:

0:00:070:00:12

Closing the road for

a proper playtime.

0:00:120:00:14

And how much food does

a dolphin need to eat?

0:00:140:00:22

First up, a story of how community

spirit and playing in the street has

0:00:270:00:30

helped a girl with autism make

friends for life.

0:00:300:00:33

Hayley's got this one.

0:00:330:00:36

This street in Bristol in south-west

England kicks out cars once a week

0:00:360:00:39

so that children can

play more freely.

0:00:390:00:41

The scheme is called Playing Out

and has had a big impact

0:00:410:00:44

on these kids' lives.

0:00:440:00:46

We've made lots of

friends in the street.

0:00:460:00:48

Well, it's really fun and you get

to do lots of activities.

0:00:480:00:53

It's also a place where Poppy has

been able to make new friends.

0:00:530:00:56

I don't go to school,

I'm hospital education.

0:00:560:00:59

So that's basically

the same as home educated,

0:00:590:01:01

but my friends still go to school.

0:01:010:01:06

Poppy was born with autism,

which is a condition that can affect

0:01:060:01:09

the way you live your life and see

the world around you.

0:01:090:01:12

Poppy was at a school,

but because of her anxiety

0:01:120:01:14

linked to her autism,

that was too overwhelming

0:01:140:01:16

and she was becoming very unwell.

0:01:160:01:17

So now she stays at home

and has a tutor come

0:01:170:01:20

to the house, which is sent

by the hospital education service.

0:01:200:01:23

So for her playing out with other

children is more of a rarity.

0:01:230:01:26

Most streets, she is too frightened

to walk down because of the noise.

0:01:260:01:29

Yet you'll see her in this street

feeling completely happy,

0:01:290:01:31

playing with all the children.

0:01:310:01:37

It's just so valuable

to us as a family.

0:01:370:01:39

If I didn't do Playing Out,

I probably wouldn't have met someone

0:01:390:01:42

else who is home educated like me.

0:01:420:01:43

She's called Imelda May

and we're best friends.

0:01:430:01:51

And if you want to know more

about autism, or to get

0:01:520:01:54

some info about anxiety,

you can find loads of information

0:01:540:01:57

and advice over at Newsround Online

where you can also watch our

0:01:570:02:00

two special programmes.

0:02:000:02:03

Next - if we don't eat enough,

we run out of energy

0:02:030:02:06

pretty quickly, right?

0:02:060:02:07

That's because all of us use energy

from food, called calories,

0:02:070:02:09

to keep us on the move.

0:02:090:02:12

And if you think you've got

a plateful, you should see how much

0:02:120:02:15

dolphins need to munch.

0:02:150:02:19

Felling peckish?

0:02:190:02:20

If you have had an active day,

you might find your tummy rumbling.

0:02:200:02:23

But well kids like you are

recommended to munch around

0:02:230:02:26

1500 calories each day.

0:02:260:02:29

You will never guess how much

dolphins need to eat.

0:02:290:02:34

New research has found

that our flippered friends need up

0:02:340:02:37

to a whopping 33,000 calories a day!

0:02:370:02:38

Wow!

0:02:380:02:43

That's 60 plates of salmon to me

and you, and amazingly,

0:02:430:02:45

that amount was less

than scientists expected.

0:02:450:02:47

The amount of food a dolphin needs

varies depending on its size

0:02:470:02:50

and whether it's resting,

sleeping, diving or

0:02:500:02:52

swimming, as well as

the temperature of the ocean.

0:02:520:02:58

Looks like this guy's

working up an appetite.

0:02:580:03:02

The study was carried out on common

bottlenosed dolphins in Florida.

0:03:020:03:06

They were captured for a short time

in order to be monitored

0:03:060:03:09

by scientists, who say the research

will help with conservation.

0:03:090:03:13

I just hope all that fish

is providing enough vitamin C.

0:03:130:03:18

Get it, because they're

in the C, the sea...

0:03:180:03:21

Never mind.

0:03:210:03:24

Teenagers in Wales could be

able to vote in some

0:03:240:03:27

elections from the age of 16.

0:03:270:03:28

The Welsh government says it wants

to lower the age at which people

0:03:280:03:31

can vote from 18 to 16

in local elections.

0:03:310:03:33

In Scotland the voting

age has already been

0:03:330:03:35

lowered for some elections,

but in the rest of the UK

0:03:350:03:38

there are no plans to let 16

and 17-year-olds vote.

0:03:380:03:40

These Welsh teenagers told us

what they think of the idea.

0:03:400:03:46

It will be a good thing for us to be

able to vote because we would be

0:03:460:03:50

voting for our future.

0:03:500:03:54

Personally, I don't believe

we should lower the age to 16

0:03:540:03:56

because I don't feel that schools

are educating us enough

0:03:560:04:01

on the politics side of things.

0:04:010:04:03

I'm in favour of voting

at 16 because I think

0:04:030:04:05

we are educated enough at 16 years

old because we use social media.

0:04:050:04:08

We see the parties,

the advertisements

0:04:080:04:10

they put out out there.

0:04:100:04:18

It would probably raise a lot

of interest within the 16,

0:04:180:04:20

17-year-olds, but at the same time

I feel like a lot of students

0:04:200:04:23

who are 16, 17 will take

the vote for granted.

0:04:230:04:26

They'd just sort of vote for whoever

their mates are voting for.

0:04:260:04:30

If I use my voice I can change my

future, so I think I would.

0:04:300:04:33

It's really important

for everyone to vote

0:04:330:04:35

if they have the chance to,

and I think maybe if we did

0:04:350:04:38

have the right to vote,

it would be more appealing

0:04:380:04:41

for our age group to vote.

0:04:410:04:44

That's it from me.

0:04:440:04:49

I'll be back in about half-an-hour.
