hello, I'm Riki, and it is finally Friday. Here is what is coming up on | :00:08. | :00:16.
Newsround. Manchester City ladies on a roll, plus how music gave this | :00:17. | :00:17.

a country in the Middle East. A war there has been | :00:26. | :00:28.
going on for seven years. Many thousands of people have been | :00:29. | :00:30.
killed and millions more have fled But what is life like for | :00:31. | :00:33.
the families who are A team of BBC journalists went | :00:34. | :00:38.
to the city of Homs to find out. In the last few years, | :00:39. | :00:45.
so much has changed in Syria. Buildings have been | :00:46. | :00:48.
completely destroyed. Some parts of the country | :00:49. | :00:52.
are unrecognisable. Different groups who can't agree | :00:53. | :00:57.
on the way the country should be run have been fighting | :00:58. | :01:00.
against each other. Life has changed drastically | :01:01. | :01:04.
for children living here. Three years ago, | :01:05. | :01:07.
Barah-hah was scared. She lost members of her own family | :01:08. | :01:09.
in some of the fiercest fighting and had to stop going to school | :01:10. | :01:12.
because it wasn't safe. Back then she told the BBC | :01:13. | :01:15.
what life was like. We were not eating properly. I'd | :01:16. | :01:22.
like to go to school. Three years on, | :01:23. | :01:30.
and a lot has changed. Her classroom is crowded | :01:31. | :01:32.
and she gave the BBC's You know, in some ways, | :01:33. | :01:38.
of course this is terrific to see, children just being | :01:39. | :01:50.
children here in Syria. A place that has seen some | :01:51. | :01:57.
of the worst fighting of the war. And now an ordinary day | :01:58. | :02:00.
with children going to I am much happier now. I am back in | :02:01. | :02:13.
the house. When I go to bed, I remember when I had a part in a | :02:14. | :02:17.
play, I remember school, what I did during the day will stop its all | :02:18. | :02:20.
good stuff, no bad memories. in school but not every child | :02:21. | :02:23.
in Syria is so fortunate. Many are still not able to got | :02:24. | :02:28.
to school and there is still no end Manchester City Women became | :02:29. | :02:32.
the first English team to reach the Champions League | :02:33. | :02:42.
semi-finals since 2014. They beat Danish side | :02:43. | :02:43.
Fortuna Hjorring. Lucy Bronze scored | :02:44. | :02:45.
the only goal in the game. City will face Lyon | :02:46. | :02:47.
in the last four. Tennis now and Johanna Konta has | :02:48. | :02:50.
become the first British woman Johanna Konta was just six years | :02:51. | :02:53.
old when Venus William first won her Miami Open | :02:54. | :03:02.
title 19 years ago. Even though she is seven years old, | :03:03. | :03:11.
Ruweyda only recently Martin's been finding | :03:12. | :03:18.
out more about her. Meet Ruwedya. She is seven years old | :03:19. | :03:28.
and has something called selective mutism, a very strong type of | :03:29. | :03:33.
anxiety meaning she cannot speak in certain situations. Until recently, | :03:34. | :03:37.
Ruwedya did not say a word at school, until she started taking | :03:38. | :03:47.
some special music classes. I guess Ruwedya was very quiet with | :03:48. | :03:51.
selective mutism, not speaking within school at all. And then she | :03:52. | :03:58.
came to music therapy and she was very shy in the first session and it | :03:59. | :04:03.
took a little while to warm up, but then she responded really well and | :04:04. | :04:07.
quickly. It was after her second session when she spoke her first | :04:08. | :04:12.
word. Some of the kids came in and said Ruwedya is speaking. She can | :04:13. | :04:19.
speak, she is just shy. Do you enjoy school more now? Yes. Great. Why? | :04:20. | :04:33.
School is great. About 1% of children are thought to have | :04:34. | :04:37.
selective mutism like Ruwedya but there's not a lot of research into | :04:38. | :04:41.
helping people with it, so people like Ruwedya's music teacher working | :04:42. | :04:43.
hard to different ways to help. That's all from me, Newsround's back | :04:44. | :04:47.
right here in about half an hour. Don't forget to head | :04:48. | :04:50.
online for loads more including our new Strange, | :04:51. | :04:52.

And this afternoon, it's the final episode of Sam and | :04:55. | :05:08.
Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up at six! You know, speaking of double acts... | :05:09. | :05:10.
Yeah? We're a good double act, aren't we? I reckon we're THE best | :05:11. | :05:13.
Of course! I mean, we get on | :05:14. | :05:15.
really well... We do. Never get on each other's nerves. | :05:16. | :05:17.
Nope! You know? | :05:18. | :05:20. |
