Hi, I'm Martin, it's Friday afternoon and this is Newsround. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
Here's what's coming up on the show. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
It's finals weekend for The Voice and we've got the lowdown for you. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:16
And could this be the world's most famous tortoise? | 0:00:16 | 0:00:25
But first, today could be a big day in the fight to save elephants. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:31
Over the last seven years the number of the animals in the wild | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
has dropped by a third because of poaching. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:34
And it's all because their tusks are made of ivory. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
Here's Ricky with more. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
Thousands of shops across China sell ornaments like this | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
which are made out of ivory. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:47
It's big business here and the items are worth a lot of money. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:52
Ivory comes from the tusks of elephants, and in Africa | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
many of the animals are illegally hunted for that ivory. | 0:00:54 | 0:01:00
Pressure has been put on China for years to end its part | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
in the ivory trade. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
And today almost half the factories and shops that sell ivory in China | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
have been shut down. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:10
And the rest will be closed by the end of the year. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:17
China is the country with the world's largest ivory market. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
That's where we see the greatest demand. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:26
So this change is going make a real difference for African elephants | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
because if we can reduce that demand all law abiding citizens will not | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
be buying the ivory. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
This move won't totally end the problem as lots of ivory | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
is bought and sold illegally, which is much harder to stop. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:41
But conservationists are glad that China is closing its ivory shops | 0:01:41 | 0:01:46
and hopes it will mean less is bought and sold in the country, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
saving the lives of thousands of elephants. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
If you want any more information on the ivory trade or animal | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
poaching then head online and check out our guide. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
That's also where you can find our special programme showing | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
how this issue is facing Rhino as well. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
Next, this rocket launch behind me is no ordinary lift-off. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:09
It's the first time a rocket's headed back into space after having | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
been there before. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Normally rocket parts are used only once and then scrapped or destroyed | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
when it lands back on Earth. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
But American company SpaceX has found a way of landing rocket parts | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
safely back on Earth and then re-using them to head | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
back into space. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
It's hoped this will help make rocket launches a lot | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
cheaper than before. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
Next, for almost three months we've been watching singers battle it out | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
to be crowned the winner of The Voice UK. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
This weekend four finalists will be on that stage | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
fighting for your votes. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
Ricky's been checking out the competition. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:45
The Voice. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:46
It may have switched channels. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
But that hasn't stopped the talent from shining through. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:58
This year, new coaches were thrown into the mix. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
Jennifer Hudson, Tom came back and this guy - Gavin Rossdale. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
Poor thing. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
he's the only one without a contestant in this weekend's final. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:10
So let's meet 2017's finalists. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:15
For Team JHud, Jamie and Mo. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:25
Tom Jones has this duo called Into the Ark - clever name! | 0:03:25 | 0:03:35
And Michelle will be singing her heart out for will-i-am. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:41
So can the sixth series of The Voice deliver a superstar? | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
It's not going to be easy. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45
Recognise any of these previous winners? | 0:03:45 | 0:03:47
Well, maybe not. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:48
This year ITV say they're doing things differently. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
The winner won't release a new single straight away. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
Instead a recording of their final performance will be available | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
to stream and download. | 0:03:55 | 0:04:02
Then whoever wins the public vote will head into the studio to work | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
with top producers and release an album a few weeks later. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:08
Next to a snake drinking a bottle of water. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
That's right! | 0:04:11 | 0:04:16
India has been hit with a serious drought, which means that there's | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
been no rain for quite a while and there | 0:04:19 | 0:04:21
isn't a lot of water. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:23
And as you can see this Cobra is pretty thirssssssty! | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
Look he's almost finished the whole bottle! | 0:04:25 | 0:04:30
Finally, from one reptile to another, and this one is possibly | 0:04:30 | 0:04:32
the most famous tortoise in the world! | 0:04:32 | 0:04:34
This cute little fella is Bubba and he's is a major internet star - | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
with views of the video racking up around 60 million. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
Wow! | 0:04:40 | 0:04:41 | |
He's not exactly a slow tortoise, is he? | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
Look at him go! | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
His family say the thing he enjoys is being out around people, | 0:04:46 | 0:04:51
That's all from me. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:53
Newsround's back tomorrow morning with Leah. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:54 |
