Time to get my ninja on. And my clothes!

0:00:050:00:08

Being an Art Ninja can sometimes be really wild.

0:00:240:00:28

OWLS HOOT

0:00:280:00:30

It's 3am.

0:00:300:00:32

Only night workers and lunatics are up at this hour!

0:00:320:00:35

Oh. Hi, Gav.

0:00:360:00:38

Hey, Ricky. I can't sleep and I feel weird.

0:00:380:00:42

WOLF HOWLS

0:00:420:00:46

You look a bit odd and your ears look funny.

0:00:460:00:49

In fact, they look a bit furry.

0:00:490:00:51

Let me take a picture.

0:00:510:00:53

He's gone. And he's gone weird.

0:00:560:00:58

Weirder than usual.

0:01:000:01:01

I've got a quick art tip here for how to draw a scared character.

0:01:040:01:08

I'm going to start by drawing the head.

0:01:080:01:11

Then I'm going to add some eyes and a wide mouth.

0:01:110:01:14

Show the shock. Going to put some eyebrows in,

0:01:150:01:18

angled towards the centre of the head, and I'm going to draw

0:01:180:01:21

the hair all standing up on end.

0:01:210:01:23

A couple of ears.

0:01:240:01:26

Now I'll draw the body.

0:01:260:01:28

I'm going to do the hands next to up by his face, sort of like, "Ah!"

0:01:280:01:32

a scream expression.

0:01:320:01:33

Draw his shorts now.

0:01:380:01:40

And I'm going to do his knees a little bit bent, facing inwards

0:01:400:01:43

like they're knocking together in fear.

0:01:430:01:47

A couple of wavy lines

0:01:470:01:50

as if he's shivering and, of course, what's he scared of?

0:01:500:01:53

Well, I'm going to draw something for him to look at now.

0:01:530:01:56

There we go.

0:02:000:02:01

A quick art tip.

0:02:020:02:04

Don't be scared, have a go yourself.

0:02:060:02:09

HE SCREAMS

0:02:130:02:15

Gavin, what are you doing?

0:02:210:02:23

I'm just knocking their door because I'm hungry.

0:02:230:02:26

-Hungry like a...

-WOLF HOWLS

0:02:260:02:29

A wolf?

0:02:290:02:31

I'm really craving a meat feast.

0:02:310:02:34

Great, now he's going to think I run some kind of late-night cafe.

0:02:340:02:37

Either Gav's turned into a monster or he's got a monster appetite.

0:02:430:02:48

I'm going to make something equally gnarly.

0:02:480:02:51

It's the...Art Ninja monster foot pencil holder.

0:02:510:02:55

So I'm going to start by taking an old gravy pot and a piece of card.

0:02:560:03:01

I'm going to draw around in the shape of my monster's foot.

0:03:010:03:04

Nice, long monster toes.

0:03:110:03:13

So cut that out.

0:03:130:03:15

There we are.

0:03:180:03:21

I'm going to stick this tube onto my foot with a bit of masking tape.

0:03:210:03:25

That's not coming off. Now I'm going to make my monster toes nice and 3-D

0:03:270:03:31

and I'm going to do that with a bit of newspaper.

0:03:310:03:34

Just rolling the newspaper into sausages with masking tape,

0:03:340:03:37

stick it to the top of my cardboard cut-out.

0:03:370:03:41

The masking tape works as a really nice base

0:03:410:03:44

for sticking the scales onto.

0:03:440:03:46

I've got the main bits of the toes on now.

0:03:490:03:51

I'm going to start building it up.

0:03:510:03:53

I want to give it a nice slope into the monster's leg because that will

0:03:530:03:56

help me in later stages.

0:03:560:03:58

Here we go. Now it's ready to add some scales.

0:04:030:04:05

For this, I'm using some old plastic spoons.

0:04:050:04:09

Carefully cut off most of the handle,

0:04:090:04:11

but I want to leave about 2cm behind

0:04:110:04:13

and then just snap off these little edges.

0:04:130:04:17

Now, we're going to need a lot more of those, but luckily I've been

0:04:170:04:20

collecting for quite some time.

0:04:200:04:22

Now I'm going to stick these to my monster toes

0:04:220:04:25

with the spoon side facing down and this little extra handle,

0:04:250:04:28

that's what I'm going to use to stick it down.

0:04:280:04:30

Stick them with some sticky tape.

0:04:300:04:32

Now, I'm letting these overlap so they look more like

0:04:380:04:41

authentic scales.

0:04:410:04:43

It does take a little bit of time, though, so I've got a quicker way.

0:04:430:04:46

Ninja skills.

0:04:490:04:50

Great. Now I can paint it.

0:04:500:04:52

Start with a nice rich blue colour.

0:04:520:04:55

I'm using acrylic paint and that's because it's really good at

0:04:560:04:59

covering the spoons.

0:04:590:05:00

Last little bit at the back.

0:05:040:05:06

Now, I could wait for this to dry, but not me, I use my ninja skills.

0:05:060:05:09

I'm going to add some highlights and a bit of texture to the scales

0:05:090:05:13

to help define them. Slide in a bit of paper underneath the scales

0:05:130:05:17

so you don't overlap onto the ones below.

0:05:170:05:19

Start with some light blue first.

0:05:190:05:21

Some white here, too. This is going to make the scales look all worn

0:05:230:05:27

and very monstery-looking.

0:05:270:05:29

That starts to really define the scales.

0:05:310:05:33

Now we're going to move on, do another row.

0:05:330:05:35

I'm going to add a new piece of paper

0:05:350:05:37

and I'm going to start blending again.

0:05:370:05:40

Let any other colours get onto the brush,

0:05:490:05:52

it just helps blend them in a bit more.

0:05:520:05:54

Here we are.

0:05:570:05:59

Look at that beautiful effect.

0:05:590:06:00

Now we're going to do the rest ninja-style.

0:06:000:06:03

Look at that.

0:06:050:06:07

But the toes won't be complete without some claws

0:06:090:06:11

and I'm going to make them by recycling some old plastic forks.

0:06:110:06:16

Just going to chop off three...

0:06:160:06:17

..and now we're going to stick them together

0:06:200:06:22

with a little bit of sticky tape.

0:06:220:06:24

The outside one I'm going to put in the middle

0:06:260:06:28

because it's a bit thicker and I'm going to put the other two

0:06:280:06:31

next to it so the middle one protrudes.

0:06:310:06:34

There we go, slide it in there.

0:06:340:06:35

Got a few more here and I'm going to slide them into place.

0:06:370:06:40

Right, time for the finishing touches.

0:06:420:06:45

The things that I'm going to put inside my pencil pot.

0:06:450:06:48

The monster foot pencil pot.

0:06:490:06:50

You needn't make a monster foot out of recycled spoons like mine.

0:06:540:06:57

You can try a colourful parrot's foot made out of recycled forks,

0:06:570:07:01

or how about reusing some old plastic knives

0:07:010:07:03

to make a fluffy elephant's foot?

0:07:030:07:05

Really let your imagination run wild.

0:07:050:07:08

It's still late. It's not even early yet.

0:07:110:07:14

I wish I could sleep.

0:07:140:07:16

Hey, you there!

0:07:230:07:25

Scared of snakes? Love bubbles?

0:07:250:07:28

Then you'll love the bubble snake.

0:07:280:07:30

Here's how you make it.

0:07:300:07:33

Grab yourself a plastic bottle, remove the lid

0:07:340:07:38

and cut off the bottom.

0:07:380:07:40

Maybe get an adult to help you.

0:07:400:07:42

Get an old piece of flannel.

0:07:420:07:46

Place it over the bottom of the bottle

0:07:460:07:48

and fasten with an elastic band.

0:07:480:07:52

Now decorate it with some googly eyes.

0:07:520:07:55

Cut out some hair from paper and stick it on.

0:07:580:08:02

I've gone with a punk rock look. Eye-catching!

0:08:020:08:06

But you can do any hairstyle you like.

0:08:060:08:08

Take a bowl of water and add to it some washing-up liquid.

0:08:080:08:13

Stir with a spoon.

0:08:130:08:16

You may want to do this bit outside because it can get messy.

0:08:160:08:21

Dunk in your bubble snake.

0:08:220:08:24

Now blow into the bottle, creating an awesome bubble snake.

0:08:260:08:30

The bubble snake.

0:08:410:08:43

You wouldn't want to HISS out.

0:08:430:08:47

Hilarious! Ha-ha!

0:08:470:08:50

Really, very funny.

0:08:500:08:51

Now go to the website and get your ninja on.
