Time to get my ninja on. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
And my clothes. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:08
HIYAH! | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
So I'm going to make a butterfly | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
picture inspired by Damien Hirst. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
I'm going to use a salad spinner to make a spin painting. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Pop some paper in there, and paint, give it a whirl, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
and watch it run everywhere - | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
a popular Damien Hirst technique. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
All right, Ricky? | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
Is that you, Damien? You scared me. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
-Why are you wearing a mask? -It's one of my works, isn't it? | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
It's a skull of crystals called, "For The Love Of God." | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
And why are you on a jar of pickles? | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
Because I once pickled a dead cow | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
in something called, "formaldehyde." | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
I prefer your spin paintings. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
And here's a great example. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:57
I'm inspired to do some spin painting now. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
So, I don't want to splat you, I'm just going to turn you around. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
Oi! Talk about liberties. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
I'll leave him lurking with the gherkins while I carry on with | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
my butterfly picture. Got a bit of paper and a plate here. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
I'm going to draw around that with a pencil. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
And I'm going to cut that out. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
Now, with a little bit of sticky tack, I'm going to stick | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
my paper to the bottom of the salad spinner. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
'I'm using an old one I don't mind getting paint on.' | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
Now I'm going to put in some dollops of paint. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
Doesn't matter if they overlap a little bit, just means that it | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
might mix together as it's spinning round. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
Time to give it a spin. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
It looks amazing! | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
All the colours have run nicely, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
and mixed together towards the edge of the disc. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
I could wait for this to dry, but not me. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
-HIYAH! -Ninja skills. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
Now, with a pencil, I'm just going to draw on my butterfly shape. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:02
I'm going to cut that out. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
Now I'm going to need a lot of butterflies and I'm going to | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
cut them all out and arrange them into a beautiful picture. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
I'm going to draw around this butterfly now as my template | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
so they're all exactly the same. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
Right. Here's my first set of my five butterflies. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
But I'm going to need a lot more of these if I want to make my | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
picture, so I'm going to use some ninja skills. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
HIYAH-HA! | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
That should do it. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
I've got a nice big bit of paper here and I'm going to arrange | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
my butterflies on it and glue them | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
down with a little bit of PVA glue. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
Folding them up like this just | 0:02:44 | 0:02:45
makes the butterflies pop out | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
from the page. I'm going to do a | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
line, I think for it, like this. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
Maybe turn it into, like, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
a big starburst of butterflies. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
And don't worry if yours start to fall, over because you can | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
always perk the wings back up once the glue's dried. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
I'm just adding a few more in between the lines to create | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
this nice circular pattern. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
It's very similar to what Damien Hirst actually did himself. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
Look at that! | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
They could almost be alive. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
Every single one a beautiful, unique, colourful butterfly. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
I think it's so good, it deserves a frame. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
I think this looks truly amazing. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
But you can try a different arrangement. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:51
You don't have to do butterflies. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:55
You could do jets instead to take | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
the art to a whole different "plane." | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
Here's a quick art tip of how to draw the changing seasons. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
So, I've drawn the same scene four times, and now I'm going to add the | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
seasons to them. So, I'm going to start with spring. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
So, have a little sun. Not too bright. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
Couple of rays coming off of it. And just some tiny clouds. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
And on the tree, a little bit of blossom. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
And then some new sprouts of grass | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
popping up in the fields. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
Now for summer. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:34
So a nice big sun. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:36
Big rays popping out. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
And so the tree needs to look really full now. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
So I'm going to draw a cloud kind of | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
shape round it and some flowers | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
sprouting out of the grass, | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
and some big tufts of grass as well. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
Now for autumn. So, the tree will be a little less full, | 0:04:55 | 0:04:59
and the leaves are starting to drop so there's just the | 0:04:59 | 0:05:02
smaller cloud shape around the tree's branches and then | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
lots of leaves just falling down | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
and blowing away on the wind. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:11
And finally, winter! BRRR! | 0:05:11 | 0:05:15
So I'm going to put a couple of clouds at the top here and | 0:05:15 | 0:05:17
I'm going to add some snow just | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
coming down from the clouds. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:21
Here we go. Quick art tip. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
Don't let the seasons pass you by. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:29
Give it a try! | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
Ricky, can you make art with tissue paper? | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
Tissue paper? Cool, dude. I pick you. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:43
YAY! | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45 | |
-So, what's your name? -Veer. -Nice to meet you, Veer. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:48
-And where're you from? -I'm from London. -Cool. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:51
I'm going to make some art with tissue paper | 0:05:51 | 0:05:53
that'll blow you away. Let me just go and grab my things. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:57
So, I've got my tissue paper, | 0:05:57 | 0:05:58
some water and I also have a nice thick pen, a pencil and a brush. | 0:05:58 | 0:06:03
Now because the tissue paper's so colourful, I think I'm | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
going to do a picture with some nice flowers. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:08
So I'm just doing a rough pencil line of where I'm going to do | 0:06:08 | 0:06:10
each of the flowers. Right, so I've just drawn the rough outline. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:14
So with the tissue paper, I'm going | 0:06:14 | 0:06:17
to tear off some kind of petaly shapes. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:19
Only roughly. They don't need to be perfect. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:22
Just a little red one there. | 0:06:24 | 0:06:26
-So, Veer, do you do much art at home? -Yeah. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:29
What kind of art do you like doing? | 0:06:29 | 0:06:30
I like drawing... Like, sketching outside. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
So, what's the best thing you've ever drawn or made? | 0:06:33 | 0:06:35
-I've got it just here, shall I get it? -Yeah, go on. | 0:06:35 | 0:06:38
Oh, wow! | 0:06:39 | 0:06:41
-That is amazing. Good work, dude. -Thank you. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:45
All right, I'm still just tearing | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
all the shapes of leaves and petals out. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
OK. I've torn out all my shapes. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:56
I think I'm ready to start making my picture. | 0:06:56 | 0:06:58
So, what I'm going to be doing is dipping the brush into some water | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
And I'm going to put the water on top of the tissue paper on the page, | 0:07:02 | 0:07:05
and this is pretty cool, but as you do it, | 0:07:05 | 0:07:08
the ink in the tissue paper runs onto the page. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
So, if you want to have a go at this, you just need to ask | 0:07:10 | 0:07:13
for non-colourfast tissue paper at the craft shop. | 0:07:13 | 0:07:16
Do some nice, long leaves, I think. You can use it a couple of times | 0:07:16 | 0:07:19
when you get a shape that you're happy with to create the petals. | 0:07:19 | 0:07:22
-It has a really cool effect. -Yeah. | 0:07:22 | 0:07:25
You don't have to worry about staying completely within the lines. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:28
It's more fun if you let it go a little bit all over the place. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:31
You get some really nice mixing here, where I've placed one piece of | 0:07:31 | 0:07:34
tissue paper. I'm then putting another piece over the | 0:07:34 | 0:07:37
top of it of a different colour and the two are just merging, | 0:07:37 | 0:07:39
creating these nice new colours. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:41
I'm just colouring in the pot now, that's holding the flowers. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:44
And I'll do a little bit of red for the table along the bottom. | 0:07:44 | 0:07:46
There we are. Done all the colour. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:51
But, I can either wait for it to dry or I can use some ninja skills. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:54
What do you think I should do? | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
Ninja skills. | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
-HIYAH! -There we are. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:00
Nice and dry. Ready for drawing on now. | 0:08:00 | 0:08:02
I'm just going to go in with a black marker now and give the | 0:08:02 | 0:08:05
flowers some definition. I'll start right in the middle. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
I'm just using my original pencil lines as kind of a guide. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:13
This kind of effect makes it look | 0:08:16 | 0:08:18
like the flowers are exploding with life. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:21
It's just colour bleeding everywhere. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:23
-OK, Veer, are you ready to see it? -Yeah. -Yeah? Here we go. | 0:08:25 | 0:08:28
-What do you think? -Wow! | 0:08:29 | 0:08:32
-What would you score it? -I'd score it a 10! -Oh, yes! | 0:08:32 | 0:08:36
I'm glad you like it, dude. I think it's so good, it deserves a frame. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:41
Look at that, amazing. Excellent suggestion, Veer. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
Thanks very much, dude. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:46
-Thank you. -Buh-bye. | 0:08:46 | 0:08:48
Now go to the website and get your ninja on. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:03
