# Those lovely Rockpool Tales. # | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
Ha-ha! Hello. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
You've caught me having a bit of a sort out | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
with some of my old bits and bobs. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
This box has got all my old toy cars in it. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
Salty's lined some up round her basket. Look. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
Isn't she a clever dog? | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
Ha-ha! Yeah, but this was always my favourite car, this was. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:36
See that? | 0:01:36 | 0:01:37
It's a black taxi. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
Now, that's a car that you can stop on the street | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
and the driver will take you wherever you want to go. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
I've got a few stories to tell about this old toy. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
Yeah, right, and here's one. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
It all happened when I was a boy | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
in a twinkly time, long, long ago. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
'I used to run down to the beach as often as I could, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
'meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie | 0:02:11 | 0:02:15
'and Little Sailor Sue. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
'I had a new toy car. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
'It was a black London taxi. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
'Sue had a bright red racer | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
'and Ernie had a yellow truck, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
'which he parked in a garage, made of pebbles.' | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
We made roads in the sand | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
'and we raced our cars.' | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
Beep beep! | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
-Come on, let's go to the mountains over there. -OK. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
'I drove my little black taxi up into the mountains, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
'which were really the rocks on the beach. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
'And the winding roads were bumpy,' | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
but the view was amazing, | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
right down to the beautiful rockpool | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
'lakes below. And as we gazed deep down into the glittery waters, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:06
'a magical world appeared before our eyes.' | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
One bright morning, Sally the Starfish, Andrew the Anemone | 0:03:12 | 0:03:16
and Belinda the Blenny were playing in the rockpool. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
"I want to whizz fast today," shouted Andrew. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
And he whizzed off a stone | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
and bump-bump-bumped on the sandy bed, | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
stopping next to a large flat seashell. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
The seashell had a sign on it that read, "Taxi, wait here." | 0:03:33 | 0:03:39
"Ooh," he thought, as Sally and Belinda joined him. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
"That sounds interesting. I'm sure taxis can whizz really fast." | 0:03:43 | 0:03:48
Just then, Sidney the Sea Snail appeared. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:53
"Hello," he said. "I'm your taxi driver. Can I take you anywhere?" | 0:03:53 | 0:03:59
The three friends looked around for the taxi, | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
but they couldn't see one. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:03
"Where's your taxi?" said Sally. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:07
"I am the taxi," laughed Sidney. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:10
"Where would you like to go?" | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
"Well, could you take us to that seaweed over there?" asked Belinda. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:20
"And could you whizz really fast?" said Andrew. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:24
Sidney smiled. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
He was very pleased because these were his first customers. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:31
"Climb on board my shell and we'll set off," he said. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:35
So, Sally, Andrew and Belinda swam up | 0:04:35 | 0:04:40
and tried to sit on Sidney's shell. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
"It's a bit slippy," said Andrew. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
"I can't hold on," said Sally. "Whoa!" said Belinda. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:51
And with a slip slop plop, the three friends slid off Sidney's back | 0:04:51 | 0:04:57
and landed on the sandy bed of the rockpool. | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
Sidney was very disappointed. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03
"That wasn't supposed to happen," he said. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:06
"Well, let's try again," said Andrew. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
They all clambered aboard Sidney's shell | 0:05:09 | 0:05:11
and with a slip slop plop, they all slid off again. | 0:05:11 | 0:05:16
"Oh, dear!" said Sidney. | 0:05:16 | 0:05:19
"This isn't going well." | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
"Never mind, we can try again," said Sally. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:26
She had a plan. "Let's all hold on to each other," she said. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:31
"That way, we might not slip off." | 0:05:31 | 0:05:34
So they all held on to each other | 0:05:34 | 0:05:36
and scribbled and scrabbled onto Sidney's shell. | 0:05:36 | 0:05:39
It was very, very slippery. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:43
But this time, holding on to each other seemed to work. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:47
They managed to stay put. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
"I think we're ready for our taxi ride," said Sally in a wobbly voice. | 0:05:49 | 0:05:56
"Then let's go," said Sidney. | 0:05:56 | 0:05:59
"Ha! This is going to be brilliant," said Andrew. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:02
"I hope we whizz really fast." | 0:06:02 | 0:06:05
Well, the three friends clung together, | 0:06:06 | 0:06:10
waiting for the ride to start, and they waited... | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
and they waited. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
But they didn't seem to be going anywhere. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:18
"Um, Sidney," said Sally. | 0:06:18 | 0:06:20
"Yes," replied Sidney. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:22
"We don't seem to be moving anywhere," she said. | 0:06:22 | 0:06:26
"We are moving," Sidney said. | 0:06:26 | 0:06:29
"Just very, very, very slowly. | 0:06:29 | 0:06:32
"I'm a snail, you see? I don't move very fast." | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
Well, Andrew was getting tired of clinging on to his friends | 0:06:38 | 0:06:42
and he called down to Sidney, "We want to whizz! | 0:06:42 | 0:06:45
"Can you go a little faster, please?" | 0:06:45 | 0:06:48
"I'll try," said Sidney. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:51
"It's because the three of you are so heavy. | 0:06:51 | 0:06:54
"It makes me even slower than normal." | 0:06:54 | 0:06:57
So, Sidney took a deep breath... | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
..and with an enormous wiggly bump, | 0:07:04 | 0:07:06
he managed to go forward a teeny-tiny bit. | 0:07:06 | 0:07:11
Unfortunately, | 0:07:11 | 0:07:13
the wiggly bump was too much for the three friends clinging on up above. | 0:07:13 | 0:07:18
"Whoa!" they shouted. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:20
And they all slithered off the slippery shell | 0:07:20 | 0:07:24
and landed slip slop plop in the sand. | 0:07:24 | 0:07:29
Sidney was very upset. He was the worst taxi in the whole world. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:34
"No, you're not," said Sally. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:38
But Sidney was looking sad. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
"I'm never going to be a good taxi, | 0:07:41 | 0:07:45
"I'm too slippery and I can't whizz." | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
So it looked like Sidney's taxi service was closed for business. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:54
But Sally had an idea. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:57
She whizzed off to collect some driftwood with a hole in the middle. | 0:07:57 | 0:08:01
"Ah, hey, Sidney, can I pop this on your shell?" | 0:08:01 | 0:08:06
Sally put it on Sidney's shell. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:09
And it made a very nice seat that would not be slippy at all. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:14
"Jump on with me," she called to her friends, | 0:08:14 | 0:08:18
so Andrew and Belinda swam over and joined Sally on the seat. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:22
It wasn't slippery at all. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
Sidney was surprised that everyone could stay on his shell | 0:08:25 | 0:08:30
without falling off. | 0:08:30 | 0:08:32
But it still didn't mean he could be a taxi because he couldn't whizz! | 0:08:32 | 0:08:38
"Oh, I don't know about that," smiled Sally. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:42
Then that clever little starfish pushed with all her might | 0:08:42 | 0:08:47
against the rock behind her, and with a little jolt, | 0:08:47 | 0:08:51
Sidney started to move. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:54
He couldn't believe it. How was he moving? | 0:08:54 | 0:08:58
And then Sidney started to whizz. | 0:08:58 | 0:09:01
How was he whizzing? | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
He looked down and saw that a long piece of seaweed on the sand | 0:09:03 | 0:09:09
was like a slippery slide and Sidney was sliding along it, | 0:09:09 | 0:09:15
with everyone perched on his shell. | 0:09:15 | 0:09:17
"Wa-hee!" shouted Belinda. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:20
"Hurray!" shouted Sally. | 0:09:20 | 0:09:22
And they whizzed to the end of the seaweed. | 0:09:22 | 0:09:25
And then they did it all over again. | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
And again... | 0:09:28 | 0:09:29
and again. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:31
And Sidney laughed and laughed. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:34
He was the happiest, whizziest snail in the whole rockpool. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:39
'We looked up from the rockpool | 0:09:39 | 0:09:41
'and I whizzed my taxi back down the rocky mountains | 0:09:41 | 0:09:46
and found the road in the sand all the way back to the pebble garage. | 0:09:46 | 0:09:50
-Can we park in your garage, Ernie? -Yeah, course you can. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:54
Sue's mum called us over. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:57
Sue! | 0:09:57 | 0:09:58 | |
It must be time for the picnic. | 0:09:58 | 0:10:01
'What a treat! | 0:10:01 | 0:10:02
'She had made us a lovely picnic with my favourite - cheese butties. | 0:10:02 | 0:10:09
'We ate our picnic until the tide came in,' | 0:10:11 | 0:10:15
and covered the rockpool like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:20
Maybe we should drive this old taxi | 0:10:25 | 0:10:29
over to the Mermaid Cafe. | 0:10:29 | 0:10:32
Hm? I fancy a nice cup of tea and a cheese butty. | 0:10:32 | 0:10:36
What about you, girl? | 0:10:36 | 0:10:38
And why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? | 0:10:39 | 0:10:44
Goodbye. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:46 |
