Ho-ho! Oh, hello! | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
Salty and I have been playing hide and seek today. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:20
You know, she's always quite hard to find on the beach | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
because her sandy-coloured fur acts as camouflage. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:28
It helps her to blend in. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Which reminds me | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
of another time I played hide and seek on the beach. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
Why don't I tell you the story? | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
Well, it all happened when I was a boy, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
in a twinkly time, long, long ago. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
I used to run down to the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie and Little Sailor Sue. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:58
-Let's play hide and seek. -I'll count. -Go, go. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
One, two... | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
'The three of us would play hide and seek | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
'around the harbour in Staithes.' | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
One day, when Little Sailor Sue was "it", | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
Ernie and I ran off to hide in our usual spot behind some lobster pots. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:25
We always hide here. She'll find us straightaway. Come on. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
'Ernie wanted to stay where he was,' | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
so I ran off towards the rockpools. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
'I found a really good hiding place,' | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
and then I waited for Sue to come and find me. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
'And as I gazed down into the glittery green water, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
'a magical world appeared before my eyes.' | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
On this particular day, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
Buster the Crab was looking after a special visitor. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:01
His name was Luca and he was a lively young squid. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:07
Little Luca's dad, Big Charlie, had gone to do some errands, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
so Buster was looking after him. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Luca had lots of arms and lots and lots of energy. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:19
He was as zingy and poppy as a fizzy lemonade bubble. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:25
"Ah, squiggly squid. What shall we play, Buster?" he chortled. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
"Tell you what," said Buster, chuckling, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
"I'll race you." | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32
"Oh, zipp-ee!" cried Luca. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
And they shot off. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
And guess who got there first. SALTY BARKS | 0:03:38 | 0:03:40
Yes, Salty, yes. Yes, it was Luca, of course. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
"Oh, squiggly squid! I win!" he chortled. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:48
"What shall we play next?" | 0:03:49 | 0:03:51
Well, Buster thought that Luca would love the seaweed trampoline. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:58
"Follow me, little squiggly squid," he said. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:03
And they trooped off. Now, on the way, they met Sidney the Snail. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:08
"We are going to trampoline," said Luca. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
"Are you coming too?" | 0:04:11 | 0:04:12
Luca and Buster jumped backwards, frontwards, | 0:04:12 | 0:04:17
roundy round, upside down. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
"Try bouncing, Sidney! It's fun!" | 0:04:19 | 0:04:25
So, Sidney jumped onto the trampoline and bounced. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:31
When he was in mid air, he stretched himself out, | 0:04:31 | 0:04:35
but just as he was about to land, | 0:04:35 | 0:04:38
he sucked himself back into his shell. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:41
Now, Luca thought this was very funny. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
"Quicker, Sidney! Quicker!" | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
he cried, letting out a gleeful chuckle. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:51
But Buster and Sidney were tired. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
But Luca wasn't. | 0:04:54 | 0:04:56
Luckily, Sheena the Shrimp arrived and she was in the mood for dancing. | 0:04:56 | 0:05:02
"Oh, a new dance partner!" she said, happily, when she saw Luca. | 0:05:02 | 0:05:07
"Come and see my musical rock." | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
"Yes, squiggly please," cried Luca. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:12
The musical rock played a very lively piece | 0:05:12 | 0:05:16
of clapping and stamping music. | 0:05:16 | 0:05:19
And they danced. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:21
Luca was a lovely mover, flinging his arms in all directions. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
They danced the kazambo and the jigga-jigga jango. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
And after a while, Sheena, oh, she needed a rest! | 0:05:30 | 0:05:35
But Luca didn't seem to be tired at all. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:37
"Squiggly squid! What shall we play now, Buster?" he asked. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:42
Buster wasn't sure. He was too tired to think. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:47
Belinda the Blenny swam by. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
"Help us, Belinda," Buster whispered. "We're all worn out. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:55
"I promised Charlie the Squid I would look after his little son, | 0:05:55 | 0:05:59
"Luca, and we've jumped and danced and we've had lots of fun, | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
"but now, everyone's very tired, except for Luca!" | 0:06:03 | 0:06:08
Belinda swam up close to Luca to get a better look at him. | 0:06:09 | 0:06:15
"Oh, aren't you a real sweetie? | 0:06:15 | 0:06:19
"Now, what we need is a nice calm game. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:23
"Hm, yes. What about hide and seek?" | 0:06:23 | 0:06:27
"That's my best game ever," said Luca. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:32
So, Luca ran off to hide, while Belinda counted. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
"One, two, three, four..." | 0:06:36 | 0:06:40
She gave him lots of time to find a really good hiding place. | 0:06:40 | 0:06:45
"598, 599, 600! | 0:06:47 | 0:06:53
"Coming, ready or not!" she cried. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:58
She swam about the sandy floor, looking for him. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
She thought it would be easy because Luca was purple, | 0:07:02 | 0:07:05
with lots of long, dingly-dangly arms. | 0:07:05 | 0:07:08
But it wasn't easy | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
because that little squid had a very clever way of hiding. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:15
SALTY BARKS Yes, Salty, yes. | 0:07:15 | 0:07:18
Luca could camouflage himself. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
He could actually change his colour | 0:07:21 | 0:07:24
and his pattern to blend in with things. | 0:07:24 | 0:07:28
So, when Belinda looked amongst the tangly-dangly seaweed, | 0:07:28 | 0:07:33
she had to look extra closely, | 0:07:33 | 0:07:35
for, in amongst it, was a tangly-dangly little squid. | 0:07:35 | 0:07:40
"Oh, there you are, you clever boy!" she called. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:44
"Ha-ha! Now you see why it's my best game ever! | 0:07:44 | 0:07:48
"It's cos I can camouflage myself," Luca said, proudly. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:54
Well, all the creatures cheered. | 0:07:54 | 0:07:58
They thought Luca was extremely clever. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:02
"Let's play hide and seek for ever and ever," he chortled happily. | 0:08:02 | 0:08:07
Then, an extremely long arm | 0:08:07 | 0:08:12
stretched into the pool | 0:08:12 | 0:08:15
and plucked up Luca. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:18
It was Big Charlie the Squid. | 0:08:18 | 0:08:21
"Yeah! Dad's back!" cried Luca. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:24
"Hi, Dad! Can I stay and play a bit longer, please? | 0:08:24 | 0:08:28
"I don't want to go home yet." | 0:08:28 | 0:08:31
"Buster and his friends might need to rest now, Luca," | 0:08:31 | 0:08:35
said Big Charlie. | 0:08:35 | 0:08:37
"And besides, you haven't played with me yet." | 0:08:37 | 0:08:40
"Come back soon, Luca, we had lots of fun," said Buster. | 0:08:40 | 0:08:44
"You are brilliant at hide and seek." | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
"Can I come back tomorrow?" cried Luca. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:50
"Come back any time you like," said Buster. | 0:08:50 | 0:08:54
All the creatures waved goodbye. | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
"Squiggly squids! Ha-hey, see you soon," they called. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:03
Jack? Jack? | 0:09:06 | 0:09:08
'And just then, I heard Sue calling me | 0:09:08 | 0:09:12
'from across the beach.' | 0:09:12 | 0:09:13
Found you, Ernie. | 0:09:13 | 0:09:15
Let's find Jack. | 0:09:15 | 0:09:16
I think he went over there. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:18
Jack? | 0:09:18 | 0:09:19 | |
'I kept hiding. I thought they wouldn't see me | 0:09:19 | 0:09:23
'because I blended in quite well' | 0:09:23 | 0:09:25
with the rocks, but they spotted something. | 0:09:25 | 0:09:28
-Is that his hat? -I think it is. | 0:09:28 | 0:09:31
Found you, Jack! | 0:09:34 | 0:09:36
-How? -We saw your green hat. | 0:09:36 | 0:09:38
Then it was Ernie's turn to be "it". | 0:09:38 | 0:09:41
One, two, three, four, five... | 0:09:41 | 0:09:45
'Coming, ready or not! | 0:09:46 | 0:09:48
'And we played hide and seek for the rest of the afternoon...' | 0:09:48 | 0:09:53
Found you, Jack! | 0:09:53 | 0:09:55
'..until the tide came in...' | 0:09:55 | 0:09:57
Found you, Sue! | 0:09:57 | 0:09:59
..and covered the rockpool like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
Salty's hiding again. Can you spot her? | 0:10:09 | 0:10:12
I'm coming, Salty! Ready or not! | 0:10:12 | 0:10:15
Ha-ha! Oh, she's not there. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:18
Shush! | 0:10:19 | 0:10:21
There you are! Oh! | 0:10:23 | 0:10:25
Not in there either. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:26
Where's she gone? Let's have a look. | 0:10:26 | 0:10:28
Oh, look at you! | 0:10:28 | 0:10:30
There you are! Come here! | 0:10:30 | 0:10:33
Oh, you come and find us next time | 0:10:35 | 0:10:37
for some more Rockpool Tales, all right? | 0:10:37 | 0:10:41
Goodbye. | 0:10:41 | 0:10:42
Good girl! Right, this way! WHISTLES | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
This way! Come on! Come on! | 0:10:45 | 0:10:47 |
